Alright...

I said I would do this, so here it is: the place for us to share lists of our top 10 favorite albums of all time.

I'll have to add to mine as they come to me, but so far I have:

In Utero by Nirvana
Self-Titled by Blink 182
Feel Good Ghosts by Cloud Cult
Farm by Dinosaur Jr.
Suburbia I've Given You All And Now I'm Nothing by The Wonder Years
Decomposer by The Matches

Ok:

Metallica : And Justice For All. First Metallica album I bought, on cassette, and played it to death.
Queen : Live Killers. Knew every word on this album, and had it on double LP.
Genesis : The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Fantastic prog rock, and a story as well.
Jeff Wayne : The War of the Worlds. Say no more.
Megadeth : Peace Sells..But Whos Buying? Awesome old school Megadeth.
Pearl Jam: 10. Didn't like the later stuff, but this is awesome.
NIN : Pretty Hate Machine: Again, first NIN album, on cassette, loved it.
Various: Judgement Night Soundtrack. Mashup heaven.........Onyx and Biohazard? Yes please!
Bloodhound Gang : Hooray for Boobies. Their best album, I think........
Ice-T : Home Invasion. I had to have a bit of the gangsta rap in there

...I think.

"Justin Bieber looks like a lesbian i'd like to ****..." - Megakillscreen, out of frickin' nowhere!

I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan, but have you listened to Backspacer? That's one of their more recent albums, and I found myself to really like it. Also, Hooray for Boobies is a solid album. I return to it for a few tracks (I Hope You Die, the intro to Three Point One Four, Along Comes Mary) from time to time.

Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection (only good one of his IMO)
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
Van Morrison - Moondance
Big Brother & the Holding Company - Cheap Thrills
Taste - On the Boards
Genesis - Foxtrot
Streetwalkers - Red Card
Roxy Music - Roxy Music
Carole King - Tapestry
Cream - Disraeli Gears

For me, every single one of these albums holds a story. They are part of the fabric of my life and I still own and play all of them today.

Red I saw Genesis do the Lamb in Bristol in the early 70's.

I don't have 'favourites' as such as it can change according to mood and/or situation. Having over 1,000 CD's makes it difficult too - that being said I can list a few I would consider as essential in my collection.

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Jeff Wayne - War of the Worlds
the Wildhearts - Earth vs
Pink Floyd - the Wall
Dream Theatre - Images and Words
Manic Street Preachers - Forever Delayed
Evanescence - Fallen
Placebo - Once more with Feeling
Sisters of Mercy - Slight case of Overbombing
Marilyn Manson - Lest we Forget
Levellers - Levelling the Land

I could add many many more - I haven't even mentioned Motley Crue, Dragonforce, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Slash etc etc etc

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

So, at least 3 of your 1k match mine. Just finished converting them all to FLAC and installed on a Media Server (prev was MP3) in readiness for Windows 10 (native FLAC support).

OK, I couldn't do this one either. Narrowed it down to a good, old-fashioned style top 40 like we have here in the UK...there's a logic to it, honest.

Seriously, this is as close as I could get. I'm totally indecisive when it comes to music, as you can tell. There's only one constant for me, and that's that R.E.M. are my favourite band.

In alphabetical order, not preference order...

1) Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
2) Asking Alexandria - From Death To Destiny
3) Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty
4) Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen
5) Bjork - Debut
6) Bush - The Science of Things
7) Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine - 1992: The Love Album
8) Courage My Love - For Now
9) Dead Sara - Dead Sara
10) Deftones - Around The Fur
11) Disturbed - The Sickness
12) DJ Fresh - Nextlevelism
13) Eels - Beautiful Freak
14) Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree
15) Fenix TX - Fenix TX
16) Garbage - Garbage
17) Go Betty Go - Nothing Is More
18) Grass-Show - Something Smells Good In Stinkville
19) Hole - Live Through This
20) Jack Off Jill - Sexless Demons and Scars
21) KoRn - Follow The Leader
22) Metric - Fantasies
23) Miles Davis - The Real Miles Davis
24) Nirvana - Nevermind
25) Oasis - What's The Story (Morning Glory)
26) Paramore - Riot!
27) Placebo - Placebo
28) R.E.M. - Monster
29) R.E.M. - Reckoning
30) Radiohead - The Bends
31) Rise Against - The Sufferer and the Witness
32) Run DMC - Greatest Hits
33) Scarling - So Long, Scarecrow
34) Sonic Boom Six - Slounds to Consume
35) Staind -Break the Cycle
36) The Ataris - End is Forever
37) The B-52s - Cosmic Thing
38) The Cranberries - No Need to Argue
39) The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
40) Tsunami Bomb - Definitive Act

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits

I'm not a huge Dire Straits fan, but what an absolute corker of an album this is. Genuinely superb stuff. Any album that's got Money For Nothing (that intro makes me go "WOOOOO!" every time I hear it) is a cracker, but the other tracks hold their end of the deal up too. Great shout.

Yeah, the opening of the first track (once upon a time in the west) counts as one of those great openers, like good times bad times by led zep, instantly recognisable.

Ancient, Angry, Armed and Inbound.

I'm the opposite, I've thought of too many!

jumping back a couple of lines, I've been thinking a lot about great opening riffs, the track (and often experience) definers.
Honky Tonk woman, all right now, cross eyed mary, faith healer, loads and loads. Music featured so strongly in my life, even classical too (though often for the wrong reasons - Lone Ranger - apocalypse now).

Ancient, Angry, Armed and Inbound.
