My favorite movie of all time is probably Pan's Labyrinth which was directed by Guillermo del Toro. It is an excellent film if you haven't seen it (although it is in Spanish so if subtitles are a turn-off for you then sorry ).
Other films that are up there for me are: Lupin the III: Castle of Cagliostro, Die Hard (forever the best Christmas movie), Grave of the Fireflies and Whisper of the Heart.
Off the top of my head: Drive, The Departed, Gone Baby Gone, Dumb & Dumber, Jurassic Park, The Dark Knight, Shawshank Redemption, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Dazed and Confused, Anchorman, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Independence Day.
There are plenty more, but those are the movies that came to mind in the two minutes it took to write up this post.
Hard to pin it down to one but if it had to be one then probably Robocop.
Other all time favourites (in no order what-so-ever) include Terminator 1 & 2, The Matrix, The Empire Strikes Back, Enter the Dragon, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Dirty Harry, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, The Avengers, Iron Man, THX-1138, Star Trek 2, Alien, Predator, The Running Man, Commando and the very seasonal It's a Wonderful Life which we watch every Christmas. Oh and pretty much most of the Bond films.
Righto. Here we go. TRON Legacy, Back to The Future series, Rocky series, Pirates of the Caribbean series, Juno, Whip It, Josie and the Pussycats, Moneyball, Superbad, 21/22 Jump Street, Akira, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

And probably a few more I've entirely missed.
(And National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!)
So much Ghibli! I love it! I'm also lucky enough to own all of those Ghibli films on blu-ray haha
<Inhales deeply> Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Last Crusade, Bladerunner, Die Hard, Gremlins (close contender for best xmas film), Infernal Affairs series (Departed was fun but not a patch on its source), Re-Animator, Point Break, South Park Bigger, Longer, Uncut, Dumb and Dumber, Ghost in the Shell Series, Battle Royale series, Red, Rush Hour series, Beverly Hills Cop 2, The Blues Brothers, For a Few Dollars More, Super Troopers, Nightmare on Elm Street series, Serenity, LA Confidential, The Searchers, The Thing, Escape from New York, The Warriors, Jaws <eeeeep>.
There are probably more, particularly funny ones like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, some other westerns and war pictures too, but those are the ones that sprang to mind.
Ooh Escape from New York - Snake Pliskin - a true classic there, forgot about that one... and Re-Animator too... sick but funny as hell with the re-animated cat and disembodied head in the tray - love that film

That is obviously one of Kojima's favorite films too

Yeah MGS Snake just HAS to be based on Carpenters movie... he's the spitting image and even shares the name. But didn't he deny it when somebody asked him about it in an interview?

Snake's alias in MGS2 is Pliskin ts obviously based off him. Not sure if Kojima has denied it or not but it was probably a joke if he did.
Fargo, Apocalypse Now, The Searchers, Cool Hand Luke, The Great Escape, Dog Day Afternoon, Scent of a Woman, Bladerunner, The Missing, The Wicker Man (original), Moon.
Night of the Living Dead 2, Evil Dead 2, Robocop, Predator and Commando (there is no such thing as too much Arnie), Aliens, The Raid, the newish Judge Dredd movie was ok, Avengers Assemble, Urotsukidoji, Akira, Cars, Monster Inc (sniffle), Kung Fu Hustle, Ip Man, Gone in 60 seconds, Con Air (best accent evah!), Kindergarten Cop ("Who is your daddy and what does he do?"), Life of Brian, Holy Grail, Airplane and about a million others I can't be bothered to remember.
