@Red620Ti I watched it a while back and thought it was a bit on the rubbish side. I actually laughed at a couple of the scenes especially when the Alien pops out, it just brought to mind Red Dwarf with how it scuttled away. I am prepared for any scorn/grief for my comment

I hope you're trolling otherwise you should be should be burned at the stake!
I know what Akira is but manga just doesn't appeal to me so never watched it...
I don't have a 'favourite' movie. I like so many and some from different genres too. I can't say that on is better than another - similar to music. I depends on mood etc.
My preference is for Horror, Sci-fi, Action generally but also like comedy, Animated/CGi (probably from being a Graphic Designer) etc too. Star Wars was the first movie I watched at the Cinema but I can't say that is better than Alien, Predator, Terminator or some of the other Sci-fi films I really enjoy. I can't say that the Lost Boys is better than the Goonies for example as they are quite different genres.
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
That's terrible... maybe it's something to do with your age when you first see it... I first saw it on VHS as soon as it released. Watched it with my parents and none of us had any idea what was going to happen... the alien popping out of the chest was both genuinely shocking but also slightly comedic granted. But overall the movie scared the pants off me... but then I was probably only about 13 at the time I still find it very atmospheric and enjoyable today though.
Please tell me you at least rate the sequel, Aliens, as that's a lot more action oriented?
Yes I did, it scared the pants off me. I remember the motion tracker and the fear/dread in the film, Alien Isolation has that in spades. TBH not being action orientated is not a bother for me, I love a good drama, I just found it slow and the effects really haven't aged well at all. It just didn't have any tension in it. I'll have to watch it again as I was tired when I watched it the other week. Me and my brother are having a movie /game night sometime over Christmas, so I think the movie will be Alien and the game Isolation. I am 39, so that's how old I was when I first watch Alien
I remember getting out of bed at 10pm to watch Alien with my dad when I was a boy.....I didn't sleep that night. Or the night we watched Jaws. Or The Thing.......We had a white Alsation at the time and she used to lie there and look at me the way the Husky in the film did.......Used to proper give me the willies!
"Justin Bieber looks like a lesbian i'd like to ****..." - Megakillscreen, out of frickin' nowhere!
The one's the used to scare me the most were the Hammer Horror films - I was probably far too young to be watching them at the time now I think back...
There was one called The Devil Rides Out and you get to see devil at one point (some sort of goat monster thing). It scared the bejeezus out of me... I was literally hiding behind a cushion terrified. Can't remember what my mum and dad were doing at the time...
I remember watching Salem's Lot (the Stephen King story) on TV when it first aired and being so scared I couldn't get up to turn it off (the heady days before remote control)!

Oh yeah I remember that - the one with David Soul and James Mason in it? Yeah that was scary as hell and The Omen, that was another one that scared me to death... come to think of it, my parents were pretty irresponsible (or cool depending on your perspective) back then lol
I remember the first time we got a remote controlled TV from Radio Rentals - it was some sort of sonic one the size of a brick... but it was like magic!
Radio Rentals, dayum...........Like the day my dad came in with his Sony Betamax video player and Poltergeist.......Thats another one that scared the shit out of me!
SAME here! I dunno whether the Betamax, or Poltergeist scared me more (a critic, even then).

Film buffs might be interested in todays movie deal on the Christmas Countdown sale... Stanley Kubrick Collection for £24.99. You get: Lolita, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut. All in HD - works out about £3 per movie...
For those who need to appreciate the Arnie in their life a little more try playing Arniegeddon. (Guy I work with was leaving and this was part of the leaving do.)
You will need: Total Recall; The Running Man; Predator; Commando and beer (snacks optional)
The rules: Drink on the following: Deaths; action movie lines; manly moments (and in Predator every time Mac shaves for no reason and someone yells Mac).
It is brilliant.
Also fun facts: In that running order, the governor of California shares screen time with another elected official on two occasions. Jesse Ventura who appears in The Running Man and Predator was the governor of Minnesota from 1999-2003.
Shane Black (Predator) wrote Lethal Weapon and directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, both contenders for best Xmas film.
You will, when watching Total Recall, have the strongest urge to say "you better do what he says" whenever Cohaagen appears on screen. If you've seen Robocop you'll understand why.

I like to consider myself a buff, yet Lolita is something I haven't seen! Looks like a damn fine deal. Thanks Stylon!
Akira arrived today! Can't wait to watch that soon.
Also need to watch Pacific Rim and Princess Mononoke. I feel really bad about never watching Mononoke before as I'm a big Ghibli fan.
Those three in a row would be awesome. Pacific Rim is superb. SO glad I took a rare trip to the cinema to watch that one. On the big screen is was an amazing experience. Mononoke is one I came late to, as well. Only saw it this year - very cool.
And Akira...well...it's Akira. No recommendation needed beyond that.

I know so much more, and can appreciate each drink that much more, because of you. (cue Kelly Clarkson song)
As it hasn't been mentioned... Memento, one of Christoper Nolan's earlier films.
Story of a man who can't make new memories searching for his wife's killer, with a narrative structure that replicates how he experiences the world... basically the story is told back to front.
That may not sound very appealing but it's a corker.
Watched Gravity last night, what a fantastic film! It's tense, exciting and the effects are superb. It truly edge of your seat stuff! I was shouting at the TV in some places, just an amazing film. Highly recommended viewing!
