Welcome to the weekend! If you're looking for something to play on Xbox over the next few days, we've been treated to various new Xbox Game Pass titles this week including Age of Empires 2, we've got three Xbox Free Play Days additions that are live right now, and there are also various new deals live on the Xbox Store!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I'm playing something I unfortunately can't talk about at the moment so, yeah... that's my weekend.
That said, if I do get any spare time around it, I'll be jumping back on Hi-Fi RUSH as part of the Pure Xbox Game Club for February 2023, which you should totally go and join on the Pure Xbox forums!
You know what I've also been playing lately? NHL 14 on Xbox 360 with custom music! What's alarming to me is that the game feels highly reminiscent of NHL 23 on Xbox Series X|S, despite the two titles being almost a decade apart...
Have a good weekend, folks!
Craig Reid, Video Producer
I’ve got SO many games in mind for my weekend playfest but I think I’ve whittled it down to just two… maybe three games. First one and my main focus is the rhythmic action Hi-Fi RUSH. I’m 6-7 hours in and loving every beat of it. Like Fraser mentioned, it's in the Pure Xbox Game Club for February 2023, so it’ll be cool to get involved in the PX Forums!
Elsewhere, I’ve just bagged myself the Ultimate Edition of Riders Republic which has been heavily discounted on Xbox this week along with numerous other Ubisoft games. To round it all up, I’d love to squad up with friends and really get into the thick of Battlefield 2042 now the classic classes have returned in the latest update. I’ve enjoyed what I've played so far, but it’s definitely an adjustment period.
Well, that’s me. Have a lovely weekend, folks!
What Xbox games are you playing this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Beat Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on Xbox GamePass and tried the Theathrhythm Final Bar Line Demo on my Switch after. Already got the game pre ordered and the demo got me in the mood for rhythm games so I’m currently playing Project Diva Future Tone on my PS5.
Forza Motorsport 7, F1 2021, Assetto Corsa.
Ive finally got gyro controls on an Xbox and it feels great!
It's really annoying Ive had to by an expensive 3rd party product to do so, but my Xim Nexus is a delight, and worth it for driving games alone, never mind the gyro aiming I can utilise in shooters😁
AOE2 and Monster Hunter Rise, .maybe some Hifi Rush if I get a minute.
Believe it or not with the recent gears 6 news.
Gears of war 3, for some reason my favourite one.
Was slightly entertaining seeing my old Xbox360 stuff pop up on series x.
Also made me realise what made the Xbox360 the must have console to own, let’s get back to those days 😊.
Pure gameplay and epic 😂 moments like the ship on fire etc. pure look at that it’s so amazing to be playing in this environment.
That’s what Xbox needs and pretty soon and leading the way again.
I’m not playing much this weekend due to work and doing things around the house. However, I did manage to beat a couple of games this week.
First up is Hi-Fi Rush. This is a phenomenal game and it never lost its luster throughout its 10-hour campaign. This is easily the best Xbox exclusive in years, and a fantastic way to start 2023.
Lastly, I completed Goldeneye 007 on the hardest difficulty: 00 Agent. I won’t lie, there are a few missions that made me rage, but I nonetheless prevailed.
I initially didn’t want to play this game because I didn’t want to taint the fond memories I had as a young kid playing this game. With Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario World, those three games are the epitome of my childhood.
Nevertheless, I decided to boot it up and once I started I couldn’t stop. It holds up remarkably well (thank you, emulated version with modern controls). The overall game design is masterclass in my opinion, from the soundtrack, weapons, varied levels, and memorable characters (I’m looking at you, Boris). I’m glad my good memories remain positive after all of this time.
My next game that I’ll be playing and beating (before Hogwarts Legacy) will be Dead Space Remake (Xbox Series X). I started it when the game released last Friday, but I set it aside due to Hi-Fi Rush consuming my thoughts. What I did play simply reminded me how great of a survival horror game this is. I’m looking forward to experiencing this terrifying journey again.
I'm halfway through Hi-Fi Rush, playing it on Xbox Game Pass.
Over on Playstation I'm half way through Final Fantasy 7 Remake and I recently started playing Detroit Become Human.
Some Forza Horizon 5 and also TMNT Shredders Revenge on Gamepass.
Switch wise, I'm plodding through the Splatoon 3 campaign, need to get that finished before next week's Splatfest.
Wrapping up Fire Emblem Engage and Hi-Fi Rush in perfect timing for that Hogwarts Legacy early release.
I'm still play Zelda Skyward Sword HD..
I'm finally getting around to playing King's Quest V on the PC. The CD-ROM version. I had to dig out my 486 PC for authenticity.
Jk. I played that when I was a kid and it was awesome.
I'm actually playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla on the Series X and Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War on the original Xbox.
Halfway through Fire Emblem Engage, third of the way through Dead Space, and about a third of the way through FIST Forged In Shadow Torch. FIST is not that great - it's like the more I play it the less I like it. The combat just doesn't feel good to me. I might even just drop it completely because I'm not really having fun with it anymore. FEE and DS on the other hand are both absolutely incredible games that I love every second with.
I might give Inkulinati a go but more than likely more Sea of Thieves. Just unlocked the Legendary Rogue title for my sloop!
I might go back to lego star wars complete saga and play some simpsons hit and run on gamecube
Trying to make time for King of Fighters 15, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Monster Hunter Rise.
I caved last week and bought Dead space. Managed to get it for about £56. I’ve been playing in quality mode and have had no frame rate issues at all. I am also playing Age of empires 2. Didn’t get much time to play it during the week cos of work, so hope to have a good session on it over the weekend. Also playing Marvel’s midnight Suns on PS5.
Post game Hi-Fi Rush, that game continues to be an absolute delight and might be my favorite first party Xbox game since Killer Instinct 2013, but I’m also getting back into Dead Cells since I haven’t really played it since the first DLC, and that Castlevania DLC is coming up. Man…they added a lot to this game since I played last. The other indie character weapons are great!
Might dabble around with Valkyrie Profile Lenneth on PS5 as well.
Hi Fi Rush - Have an hour or two of fun left with this one.
AC Sydicate - Finishing this up as well. Back in the US now after 5 years in the UK and really enjoying this trip back to London.
Just finished Hi-Fi Rush this morning, I might work on finishing some missed achievements for it.
Probably play through more of Sonic Frontiers and MH Rise.
Also contemplating buying Spider-Man remastered, since its on a Steam Sale right now.
Red dead redemption 1 for the first time. Purchased it some months ago for dirt cheap and am honestly amazed at how it looks on Series X.
Redfall.
No, not a joke.
On my Xbox it's One Piece Odyssey. Never watched an episode of One Piece before and then it's a pretty mediocre jrpg. Since I don't want to start something new with Like a Dragon Ishin pre ordered I play a bit of elder scrolls online on the side. One of my go to games when I'm in between other games.
On my ps5 I play Valiant Hearts. A 2d puzzle side scroller from Ubisoft about ww1. That and a bit of Yakuza 6 song of life. Already finished all of them but wanted to play something I know because on Tuesday it's Hogwarts release day.
Kicking around Persona 4 Golden and Hi-Fi Rush until Hogwarts Legacy this Friday!
Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition (Windows Phone) - Nearing the halfway point finally.
Rayman Jungle Run (Windows Phone) - I've had a blast with this and I'm kinda sad to see it coming to an end as well.
Age of Sparta (Windows Phone) - Finally polishing this off tonight, will move back to finish off Tetris when complete.
I started monster hunter rise yesterday, new to the whole series, a bit overloaded with info, but kinda like the atmosphere. Completed beacon pines yesterday interesting vibe, heartwarming and disturbing at the same time
@BRT15 that's a fun one. I have yet to play more than five minutes without it devolving into a shootout with the whole sheriff's department
The downside is I haven't gotten far.
Pretty much Hi Fi Rush and Fire emblem engage on switch.
Over the previous two weekends I’ve played through quantum break and Control + DLC. So this week I picked up Alan Wake remastered. So far so good just wish I’d started with Alan Wake. Clearly in abit of a Remedy kick at the moment
Hifi rush, ghost song, and james bond for me
Hi there fellow gamers;
After finishing Halo Infinte´s campaign, and really enjoyed it, I was still craving some FPS action and decided to finally play DOOM Eternal and it is as fun as the previous one.
But then I remember this weekend is the Guilty Gear Strive cross play beta, wich means is GGS weekend on my Series X!
I´m having a blast playing with one of my mains Ky Kiske.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming weekend to us all
I am so busy helping winston out at croft manor this weekend how has the house and obstacle course got so dirty
Yet again very top prime time national tv UK big PS5 advert. Come on Xbox you need to get noticed.
Aired during Saturday on national tv most watched programme.
Advert was actual pretty clever.
guardians of the galaxy (Second play through) and hifi rush.
This week and weekend ive been addicted to Hi-FI Rush and Age of Empires 2 on Game Pass. Rush is the best and most refreshing game that’s come out in a long time. And AoE2 is like putting on an old comfy pair of shoes. I played an obscene amount of it back on the day pc. And when i need a break I jump into P5 Royal. Game Pass is killing it right now.
My name might give it away, but I'm playing through Hi Fi Rush for a third time already. I beat the game normally, then went through again on the hardest difficulty, and now I'm doing it again to S Rank every stage. One of the best games I've ever played, and it's going to be real hard to stop playing so I can switch on over to Hogwarts on Tuesday.
