We've seen Xbox delving into the TV and Film realm quite a few times over the past few years, and according to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, there will be more examples as the team continues to learn and gain confidence.
Speaking to Variety this week, Spencer acknowledged that there may be "misses" along the way, but the team is "gaining confidence and we’re learning through this" - which will lead to more opportunities being explored in the future.
“We’re learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more. We learned from doing ‘Halo.’ We learned from doing ‘Fallout.’ So all of these build on themselves. And obviously we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is, ‘You’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.’”
Of course, the one series that keeps getting brought up in this conversation is Halo, which seemed to do pretty well initially but ultimately got cancelled after its second season. That said, we recently polled the Pure Xbox community about that series and found that 73% of voters would "love" to see a third season if were to be made.
The focus right now is on 'A Minecraft Movie', of course, which makes its debut in early April. We're assuming that one's going to be a big success, and Xbox will undoubtedly take some important lessons out of how it fares.

Halo didn't really grab me, but Fallout was absolutely amazing. I really hope they consider a Fable series. That sort of fun fantasy could do really, really well.
What i’m learning from this article and Phil’s quote is that they’re learning and growing, slowly gaining confidence. Which gives me confidence that they are learning and continuing to learn from what they are doing. Gaining confidence through learning and learning to grow. And gain confidence
My kids are really excited for the Minecraft movie. Despite everyone saying it's going to be bad I am excited to see it too because of my kid's enthusiasm.
@Kieduss I don’t even like Minecraft and think it looks okay, will definitely check it out when it hits streaming.
I'm sure Halo did wonders for their confidence. 🤣

I'm not sure what to make of the Minecraft movie. I don't want it to be bad but there's still not much that is convincing me it'll actually be good.
