Re: Review: Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One)

I haven't finished the campaign yet (12 missions in). I have found it to be impressive but not the game that I was hoping for. It feels more like a marker for me so far for the Halo that is to come. For me, Halo has mostly been the 'you against the world' type of game and the fire team approach detracts from that for me. Also, the intimate relationship between the chief and Cortana was/is an essential element and the lack (mostly) of that in this game makes for less of a game for me. You don't really have anyone to relate to. For most of the game you are a dude in a fire team. Honestly, I couldn't give a damn about the character you play as. Having said all of that, it is a really well made game and is quite fun to play, I just feel that it should have been something else.

Good review.

Whilst you can level up to 40 quickly, it is totally meaningless. It's still your light level that determines whether or not content is available to you (or indeed if you are in any shape to tackle it) and therein lies the rub (and the grind). You can be a lvl 40 character with completely useless weapons and armour and be totally useless in a strike (unless it's lvl26) as everything else is blocked off from you. There are actually LESS missions for you to do with the daily requiring light level 240 to tackle. You are stuck with running the lvl 26 strike trying to get your stuff up to scratch over and over again. Whilst it is strangely addictive, it is a grind fest.

Re: Review: Mad Max (Xbox One)

Good (and fair) review. I've put a few hours into this over the last couple of days and am quite enjoying it. Max's accent wobbles a bit (not quite sure why he sounds like an Aussie Elvis on occasion) and sometimes the camera can get you killed in a confined space (lots of those). The driving needed a handbrake (for fast turning) as often there are multiple vehicles and the ability to turn faster would have been nice. All in all though, I'm glad I bought it.
