The thing with Sony's comment is that it comes from a very different perspective considering they have to basically rely on their hardware sales for the PlayStation brand to survive, that's why they don't see stuff like Game Pass or porting their games to other consoles as sustainable, because it isn't for THEM. With Microsoft, they're taking a very platform agnostic approach to where even if you invest in their services or buy Game Pass subs or their games on PC or Switch, it's still giving them the money. Sony and Nintendo don't really have those options. I'm aware Horizon on PC is a thing but it's not really the same as literally building an ecosystem around things that aren't just your core gaming hardware. Xbox isn't a console anymore. It's essentially a connected ecosystem of different devices that all connect back to the brand. Sony can't really do that with something like PS Now or cloud streaming PS5 games to mobile because they just don't have the sheer money and resources to pull that off while making sure their hardware sales don't die in a ditch that a company as monolithic as Microsoft does, so I totally understand why Jim Ryan said what he said.
@BlueOcean I'm not completely disregarding Xbox exclusives
The problem is most of the exclusives I'm interested in wouldn't compel me at all to buy an Xbox even during launch window if I didn't already have a good PC, especially given Hellblade, Everwild and Fable are way beyond even 2021 it looks like. And even then, I have a well specced PC, and that's obviously going to get even better performance than a Series X
Also most of the games I mentioned were not multiplatform on purpose. FFXVI, GhostWire and Deathloop are timed exclusives but in the context of when they're launching, they're still console exclusives regardless. And I'd just like to point out you specifically mentioned Gears 5 as a good launch title yet disregard Demon's Souls as something not many people are interested in because it's a remake. Just saying, if anything I think you're probably the biased one here
@BlueOcean Yeah but like aside from Gears 5 (which I thought was highly mediocre) none of this lineup is at launch and some of them aren't even launch window like Fable and Hellblade 2
In its first year the PS5 is going to have Demon's Souls, Spider-Man, Horizon, God of War Ragnarok, Deathloop, GhostWire Tokyo, Ratchet and Clank, and the new Guilty Gear in addition to stuff like Final Fantasy XVI, the new Luminous Studios game, the new Capcom IP in addition to DMC5 SE and Resi Village
In addition to the exclusive content at launch like Demon's Souls and Spider-Man, the PS5 is at least also aided by a giant back catalog of PS4 games both through physical backwards compatibility and the PS Plus Collection service. While I do think Game Pass is excellent, I just naturally prefer the PS Plus Collection's offerings because I get way more enjoyment out of PS exclusives than most Xbox games.
This isn't even taking into account games that are presumably going to show up like the next FFVII Remake game and the next main Persona entry.
The PS5's immediate launch is not much better than Xbox's but I would wholeheartedly rather play Demon's Souls and Spider-Man over Gears 5 and Assassin's Creed
@Olliemar28 I'd say that the PS5 undoubtedly has the better game lineup. Nothing from the Series X is a game that really interests me in comparison. With that being said I'd say that Microsoft's messaging and general PR is way better than Sony's, especially in light of the whole debacle surrounding Spider-Man Remastered. It's just that given I already have a pretty competent PC, I am just better off using that to buy the games from Xbox that I actually want to play, and so far it's literally just Hellblade 2 and Avowed
I will say, Bethesda games becoming a permanent addition to Game Pass really makes that service feel a lot more special, dare I say I think Game Pass at this point is just a superior alternative to actually buying an Xbox console for myself personally.
@xMightyMatt14x It's definitely playable, and there is a difficulty select for the campaign itself just like 2016 DOOM but twitch reactions are definitely more rewarding for players just as a heads up
This game is freaking incredible. Such a step up in difficulty, presentation, combat and even story from the 2016 reboot. Definitely pick this one up on Game Pass if you haven't gotten the game already. A definite GOTY contender imo.
@TheGamerKing No the intent of the tweet was to throw shade at how complicated Sony's backwards compatibility policies are with PS5 games because Spider-Man PS4 is already playable natively on PS5 but is also getting a PS5 remaster that's bundled with another PS5 game that doesn't have cross gen progression from the PS4 game but it's basically the PS4 game but upscaled specifically for PS5 even if the PS5 can play the PS4 game
@Akimi Handheld gaming is definitely a major part of Japan's gaming culture but there are a ton of home console IPs that make bank in Japan, and gain considerably more traction there than in the West. Especially JRPG franchises like Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Megami Tensei, all franchises that coincidentally don't make many if any appearances on Xbox. The kinds of franchises Japanese gamers tend to be into and have large fanbases surrounding them have way more prominence on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
@MedaXbot Which is why they should strike more partnerships. There are a multitude of other solutions to appealing to the Japanese market that don't involve buying third party studios and turning multiplats into Xbox console exclusives just to appeal to a particular demographic. Especially given they now have Tango Gameworks as an in house team for first party content, and can always approach publishers like Capcom, SEGA and Square
@IronMan30 Oh no NintendoLife is like the only of these sites that actively loves to report on either rumors being debunked of a game coming to Switch or a game being listed for Switch and then deconfirmed
@IronMan30 I don't know people just seem a lot less likely to melt down on PushSquare when a game is ported to PC than on NintendoLife when a game isn't ported to Switch
@MedaXbot Microsoft partnering with SEGA for stuff is way more likely than an outright purchase. Plus it would practically be suicide for stuff like Atlus content since their games have historically performed awfully on Xbox consoles. SEGA staying as it is is considerably more beneficial
Well the truth is I'm still getting a PS5 regardless
I already have a pretty solid gaming PC so I'll get access to Xbox exclusives regardless, but nothing on the Xbox side in terms of new games has really wowed me as of yet outside Hellblade and the new Obsidian RPG. However I wouldn't want to miss out on Miles Morales, God of War Ragnarok, Demon's Souls and Final Fantasy XVI
Especially given I'm jumping into next gen hopefully at launch, Xbox's lineup so far looks super underwhelming and pretty pathetic next to PS5's.

Re: 343 Reminds Fans There's No Official Release Date For Halo Infinite Just Yet
@Olliemar28 I mean honestly Infinite being absent from launch makes the current lineup look a lot more anemic
The PS5's isn't much better but at the very least it has Demon's Souls and Spider-Man Miles Morales/SM PS4 Remastered
Re: Next Yakuza Game Seemingly Set To Be Announced This Weekend
Still waiting on an Ishin localization for PS4 (PS5?) and the ports of Yakuza 3-5 Remastered & Song of Life on PC

DOOM is Eternal

@TheGamerKing If Persona 5 comes to Xbox and PC before Nintendo consoles that'll be one freaking peak 2020 day.
Re: Some Journalists Already Have Their Hands On The Real Xbox Series X
Can't wait for Digital Foundry's analysis of both the internals and actual game performance. Have been following them since 2017.

lmao the article on PushSquare used to be titled "Microsoft THREATENS to buy more studios"
Love the contrast
