Re: Roundup: Here's What The Critics Think Of The Outriders Worldslayer Expansion

I honestly was quite surprised how short the campaign was. After beating the game and doing the endgame, I was a little bummed about how short it was. The game didn't have some kind of stellar story in the base game, but this almost felt more like a DLC then expansion. I know people are complaining about the lack of side quests, but honestly to me most were pretty forgettable in the base game. What I felt Worldslayer should have done was have more maps or at least more collection content like the monster hunts or finding the relics. I would have taken those over some generic side quests.

That being said, the gameplay is solid in Worldslayer and people complaining about the lack of new classes should really just play the game and unlock all of the pax abilities and new armor and weapon mods. It changes many aspects of the classes to feel new and different. While not having new classes, many of them feel new and play way different with the new mods and abilities. To judge the classes at face value would be a mistake I feel.

The new end game can get a bit repetitive quick. While it's nice to hunt for specific gear, I think they should prioritize or add new or changing content to that to keep life in the game. You can do the old expeditions with the new apocalypse levels which makes them a bit more challenging, but if you did all the expeditions a lot in the base game, that may not appeal to you. Even tho you can get current gear doing them at higher levels which is nice though.

Seems like they sacrificed the campaign for more end game content and loot grinding. I hope they add more end game content soon to make it a bit more varied and the game can be good dispite having a super short campaign.

There's an add on for Wow called console port I believe. It was a game changer. Really made playing WoW with a controller fun and highghly customizable. I've done mythic runs, pvp, and raids with it and it becomes second nature. Granted I'm also an avid ffxiv player with a controller and they based many of the controller schemes on that.

They have pseudo controller support baked into Shadowlands if you plug in a controller so I don't see why the game can't come to consoles. Obviously better reaction times for say healing I'd prefer with a mouse and keyboard and some ranked pvp was a bit difficult with a controller but not terrible. More cumbersome with more than 10 people. I'd love Wow or even a ffxiv port on Xbox.

@NEStalgia To be honest, the same can be said about most MMO's. It took Wow like years before they revamped the starting experience. I'd have to say ffxiv weakest point is starting out, but it's a story driven MMO. It won't throw you into the action and give you all the abilities right away. It's probably the one big strike I'll give against it.

That being said, the controller on ffxiv is amazing. Much better than ESO. You really need to go into the options and enabled the expanded controller setups. The generic one is passable, but most new players don't realize the controller setup is highly customizable via the options.
