Re: Editor's Opinion: Avoiding Pitfalls - Ten Tips For Game Critics

Mr_Stuey

Didn't read or look at the Polygon review, not a site i really visit/like.
After a quick skim it was generally a positive review. An 8, so yeah slightly higher than other sites.

To be fair the numbers don't really bother me. Labelling a game with a number is of little use to me. I'd rather read a good review and watch a few videos than pick a game up because of its scores, but that is another debate altogether.

Good article.

One thing i tend to notice from what i would class as poor reviews is the inability of people to think for themselves. Do these people all play together and chat about the game they are reviewing before writing a review, or is a case of writing a thousand words then padding the review out with stuff they have read from bigger sites ?
I'd much rather read an honest and open review, even if it goes against the trend, instead of the replicated rubbish that larger sites tend to dribble out.
If someone thinks a game is great or rubbish i'd like to know why. I don't want to read how awesome a game is just because its expected to be. Lots of so called top games have been garbage and larger sites have drooled over them to the point where other reviewers have been thinking they are wrong and changing their opinion based on trend.

Was Screamride ever going to get a large score from bigger sites ? No.
It was never popular enough before they starting writing the review.

Re: 343 Cancels Latest Halo MCC Content Update Beta Test

Mr_Stuey

I've only played a little of the multiplayer, been mostly stuck into Co-Op Legendary campaign across all 4 games so far.
Hopefully by the time I tackle those it may be fixed.

Shame really as it was the game that convinced me to pick up an Xbox One.

Re: Microsoft Defends Lack of Bundled Headset with Xbox One

Mr_Stuey

Yeah, don't want to hear Kinect voice coming back through the TV, or jump into an online game to hear a kid getting shouted of a parent or having bad language blasted through my speakers for the whole house to hear.

At this rate its looking at £500 to own an Xbox One, a game and a headset to talk to people : (

Re: Microsoft Removes DRM and Internet Check-Ins from Xbox One - CONFIRMED

Mr_Stuey

@VincentV Don't get me wrong i have bought a lot of used games for all my consoles. I fully understand the anti-DRM campaign, it was just something i would have tolerated for cheaper digital games.
I don't know anyone who doesn't have an interent connection in their house the XboxOne couldn't connect to via Wi-Fi and failing that a simple mobile check in through phone tethering. It was the only way they could do it to bring the retail discs under the same check as digital.
I think lots and lots of people would have benefited from cheaper digital distributed games. Lots of very good games slipped under peoples radar that didn't sell very well in store but could be advertised in sales and specials just like Steam does now, this surely would have been a good thing ? Everyone loves a cheap game?
It's not going to happen this generation now so its all water under the bridge, it will happen though in the future.

<EDIT>, Also the fact i have to have a disc sat in my tray is royal pain. Especially with the 360's failure rate. I have 3 consoles in my house. One has had a replacement drive, the other needs gentle persuasion to open the tray and my new S model wont open the drive while standing up.

Re: Microsoft Removes DRM and Internet Check-Ins from Xbox One - CONFIRMED

Mr_Stuey

I think i must be in the minority and see this as a step backwards.
For me the DRM issue didn't bother me, my internet is 99% of the time okay and worst case i can always use my mobile tethering for a simple connection once every 24 hours.
Yes i can see the argument against it but like i said its not an issue for me.
What is an issue is what i now won't benefit from in regards to having to purchase one game for my family instead of two copies. ( With children who do play co-op this was a major selling point in our family purchasing a 2nd console when they price dropped )

I really did think that given the chance the XboxOne digital store would result in cheaper games and more flexibility in how i play them. I use iTunes, Google Play Books, Kindle and Steam all which offer me discounted digital content. I really now can't see XboxOne offering cheaper digital content which i wanted.

Re: E3 2013: Xbox One Headset Images Emerge

Mr_Stuey

I have read reports stating that no headset comes with the XboxOne ? Surely this cant be correct ? I really dont want to listen to peoples game sound and chat coming through from their connect mic ?

Also reports saying that exising accesories don't work with Xbox One, including headsets.

Re: PS4 Trouncing Xbox One in Amazon Versus Poll

Mr_Stuey

I will be surprised if some sort of restictions don't appear on the PS4 before launch, not from Sony's part as they are doing a very good job in the PR stakes but from third parties. The scrapping of online passes etc was a good move but i can't see EA and the like not replacing it with something on PS4.

Re: Xbox One Family Policy Clarified...Sort Of

Mr_Stuey

This appeals to me as someone with kids who have their own console. Not sure if i can afford multiple XboxOne's though.

I assume that anyone signed in on "my" console would use the "original" game and not be one the 10 family members using the "shared" version.

I also hope that a simple list can be drawn up over who takes priority over the shared version, that way my immediate family members are not locked out because i have included a nephew etc on my shared list.

I know the 360 is very good with family settings at the moment and hope that is implemented too so younger members can't easily share 18 rated games to loop around family restrictions.
