This week marks the beginning of early access for WWE 2K25 if you've bought any of the more expensive editions, and therefore we're starting to see a small number of reviews go live - the majority of which have been very positive!
We're actually playing WWE 2K25 here at Pure Xbox as well, and hope to provide some 'hands on' impressions of it in the near future, but it'll probably be closer to the standard launch date of March 14th. Keep an eye out!
Here's what the first reviews are saying about WWE 2K25 so far:
GameRant (9/10)
WWE 2K25 is the best WWE 2K game since the franchise made its return with WWE 2K22. The in-ring action is top-notch, MyGM is more fun than ever, and there is enough content here to keep WWE diehards busy for months on end.
Metro (4.5/5)
It had a tough task following up last year’s incredible effort, but with the injection of The Bloodline this new entry becomes another top notch wrestling game.
Video Games Chronicle (4/5)
With a string of improvements across all its existing modes, WWE 2K25 outdoes its predecessor in pretty much every way. The weak link is the new Island mode with its cynical pay-to-win mechanics, but throw a Cena taunt in its face and pretend it doesn't exist and you'll find more than enough elsewhere in the game to keep you entertained for months.
VICE (Mixed)
"WWE 2K25 is the 2010s John Cena of wrestling games. It’s (mostly) achieved everything it set out to do. It’s far and away one of the most successful staples of a long-standing institution. The mad lad can even still put on an amazing match! …But somewhere, you get the sense that there’s a lack of depth."
It's still too early for WWE 2K25 to have a Metacritic rating just yet, but we're assuming it's going to land somewhere around the mid-high 80s when all's said and done. That's not a bad result at all for a series that continues to thrive!

I'll be waiting until I know the Universe Mode has gotten some much-needed TLC* because after the last few it is clear any issues won't be addressed in any meaningful way until the next game.
*the care kind, not the chair kind
Do these games still have a decent roster of classic wrestlers? Now they're finally getting consistently good reviews I'm tempted to recapture the good old days of wrestling games on PS1 and N64 but have been hesitant due to the current state of WWE - dull personalities, dull writing, dull wrestling, dull commentary. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky?!
@16BitHero There is a decent amount of attitude era guys in these games. Almost all of the top attitude era guys are in the game with a few exceptions, like Goldberg and Sting. However a few like Chris Jericho, Edge and Jeff and Matt Hardy aren’t there because they are/were in rival companies.
You can take a look for yourself here: https://www.thesmackdownhotel.com/wwe2k25/roster/
@16BitHero tbf the community creator downloads can be really good for the older wrestlers
@16BitHero Big time. over 300 total wrestlers. The Community Crreations as everyhting you could want. Old Arena, Wrestlers not in the game, signs, etc.
Man I remember playing WWF was back on the N64... How times have changed.
@Kaloudz No Mercy for me is still the best wrestling game ever made.
Tried some of the WWE games years ago. But really could not stand the pin/submission mechanics. Very much not intuitive at all. And terrible idea making it some kind mini game.
@GuyinPA75 Haha that's what it was called. Did it have (if I recall) Steve Austin on the cartridge? Man that was a solid game and an amazing shared screen MP too.
Did the finally fix the godawful character select screen with the dozen separate John Cena's that all play the same?
@Yukairi @Deljo @LordDieALot cheers for the info. I might jump in this year!
It's pre ordered.
@16BitHero My nephew tries to talk me into playing WWE games again ever year. The one I played was Smackdown 2008.
