Avowed is finally available outside of early access this week, and as a result of the game's standard edition becoming available to purchase, the Xbox RPG has rocketed up the charts on PC platform Steam.
At the time of writing, the Obsidian title is number one in Steam's US sales charts - and here in the UK it's only behind the Steam Deck, which effectively makes it the number one game over here too. Globally, Avowed is slotting in at number three right now - which certainly isn't bad going either.
Alongside the above post, Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg has also taken to social media to thank fans for making this first-party title the number one selling game in America. The exec also notes a bunch of other regions where Avowed has climbed the charts on Steam:
Over on Xbox, the premium edition is the one climbing the charts in the US, but it's not quite broken into the top five just yet. We'd hazard a guess that plenty of folks on Xbox are accessing the standard edition via Game Pass, where the title arrived on day one yesterday.
It's great to see this sort of success for Avowed, then, and you can certainly see why Xbox and so many other publishers right now are keen to get their games on Steam. If first-party games are selling this well over there, it seems a very valuable part of Microsoft's current strategy.

Not surprised at all. It's amazing so far and enjoyed a lot of pre-launch buzz through solid reviews across the board.
Glad it's doing well I only played a couple hours last night but I'm enjoying it so far the combat it feels good.
I'll get back to it after I complete Hogwarts I have to get some of the backlog finished so after I'm finished that I'll give avowed a go and finally start the Witcher 3!
I still cannot believe IGN gave it a 7/10. So lame...
Gave it a go yesterday. I'm trying it with a grimoire/wand combo right now. Not too shabby. I fought that big ol' bear and stopped for the night. Definitely has my attention.
I started it last night and I'm only about an hour into it but I'm enjoying it so far.
Glad to see the sales success! Looks like moving the release paid off nicely, especially when AC Shadows moved away again. I have not started yet, trying to finish a couple others first, but very much looking forward to it
B-But the grifters said it was a flop!
@FarmDog08
Trying the same combination. Magic looks really cool!
I played 3 hours last night and am really enjoying it so far. Hope it continues to do well. I love how people say Rare is trash now and all Sea of thieves continue to do is sell and be played.
Played a few hours last night so far amazing.
I just really enjoying the game but also the GUI and the systems running in the background.
Everything is so modern system wise and fluid.
One of my hates for Starfield was its slow and out of date GUI and background systems.
I am really glad I got the early access. I'm about 27 hours in and I only just made it halfway! You can really whiz through the main story in about 20 - 25 hours but there is 60 -80 hours of content here if you play at a higher difficulty and do everything.
@Lup
Yeah all 15 thousand people sure proved that wrong.
It is crazy to think Avowed so easily went past giant like Counter Strike 2! This truly shows that we have one of the greatest RPG's of all time in our hands (it truly seems one of the greatest games of all times in general, since it is number one game on PC after all!). I wonder how many millions (ofcourse we are talking about tens of millions) of people are playing this on PC, let alone if we combine Xbox!
I’ll be trying it tonight, and I’m excited for the adventure!
@Onlyboxmatters "it truly seems one of the greatest games of all time" I wouldn't go that far lol ...but it is a great game. I've enjoyed what I played.
It doesn’t look good to me. Gameplay wise it seems outdated and graphics are okay
After trying to get into Baldur’s Gate 3 a few times and failing….just hate that turn based combat, I played Avowed for around 4 hours last night and was blown away. One of the best games I’ve ever played. Congratulations to all the Team behind it 🙏🏻
Happy to see success for obsidian and for an rpg. I wish it would result in some more traditional rpgs too.
No small feat for avowed to sell so well since it’s on game pass too. I’d rather buy a month of game pass than a full game personally!
I'm glad that Avowed is seeming to be a hit with people.
I only got as far as finishing the "tutorial stage", but I am enjoying it so far. It seems to be "Skyrim Light": very dialed in, but still immersive.
I hope it stays that way, and the game doesn't throw a million distractions at me like other Western RPGs.
Sounds like it's even better than the reviews suggest ... unfortunately I can't jump in as I'm playing Kingdom come 2....and the games are to similar for me to be playing both at same time
@Onlyboxmatters Its not even top 10 concurrent players on the steam charts.10's of Millions of players on PC? You are making yourself look silly.
Its doing very well with stand alone sales this first week and that's a really good thing.... nothing like the kind of sales of 'the greatest game of all time' though - you really need to wind your enthusiasm in a bit there mate.
I had an emergency issue crop up last night so I've only managed to sneak about 3 hours in today. Its OK, I'm looking forward to playing some more later.
@KillerBoy Well I am not shocked as I just looked at your comment history....do you even own an Xbox lmao...cause I haven't seen one comment yet that isnt negative...oh except the ones ones about playstation ...shock horror
P.s this game literally has been praised graphics wise from digital foundry but okay
But you was slagging this game off months before it came out soo it probably could of been the best game ever and you still wouldn't have been happy:)
@StylesT really creepy that you have been stalking me. You should touch grass
I'm about 7 hours in and just having a great time playing this game. Avowed is pretty good, awsome game so far.
@KillerBoy 2 mins to go through a sad super ps fanoy who sits on an Xbox website trashing Xbox on a daily basis ...Yuh huh I am the one who needs to touch grass.....enjoy your single bed cool kid
Try not to worry this much about the plastic box mummy didn't buy you for Christmas ..let's all hope we can get as much sunlight as they guy who makes an account for a product he doesn't own to trash it ...you are going to make your internet gf a lucky lady one day
@StylesT you need to seek help
@KillerBoy I am assuming all this irony is lost on you ..enjoy you wierd obsession with a plastic box you don't own ...hope slagging it off pleases your playstation...freak
@StylesT “plastic box I don’t even own” and you know that by searching and stalking through my comment history? You need to lay off the white stuff
@KillerBoy If only I could get them 2 minutes back.....
So in your mind the guy who has made an account for a website dedicated to a console he doesn't even own ..yet logs in on the regular to make negative remarks about said consoles he doesnt own for going on 2 years isn't sad ...
But someone who notices said person and took a huge 2 mins to confirm their suspicions needs to touch grass ?
Well I think anyone who hasn't suffered a serve head injury knows who is the one who definitely needs to touch grass and take a long look at their life
Maybe you could lend me them 2 minutes back? Got this crazy theory that you have a lot of free time on your hands
Sigh. So less than 20,000 players is now considered a success? Terrible game. Absolute failure.
Avowed has been amazing. I'm genuinely enjoying everything about it. I'm about 25 hours in and I am exploring everything and completing bounties and side quests as much as possible then when I run out of things to do I continue on the main quest line. It's definitely a game I recommend to my buddies who enjoyed Skyrim, enjoyed The Outer Worlds and ultimately enjoys Obsidians uniqueness lol happy gaming ✌️
