We're often updating you fine folks on what's coming to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service in the near future, but every now and then we have to deliver some not-so-great news about the Game Pass library - and this week we've been slapped with two huge XGP-related delays.
Yep, in the last few days, both REPLACED from Sad Cat Studios and The Alters from 11 Bit Studios have been delayed. The former has now been pushed all the way to 2026, while the latter has moved from Q1 2025 to "later in the year". Both of these titles have been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass and continue to be planned for the service, despite their unfortunate delays.
Since the game's announcement absolutely ages ago, there's been lots of attention surrounding REPLACED, and it's especially sad (cat) to see that one pushed back again. If you've forgotten what it looks like, or indeed how The Alters is shaping up, you can take a look at both of these games and their revised release windows down below.
The Alters (Later In 2025)
"Explore an emotional sci-fi game with a unique blend of survival, adventure, and base-building elements. Help Jan Dolski—the sole survivor of an ill-fated space expedition—create alternative versions of himself to escape a hostile planet and tackle personal turmoils with this unconventional crew."
REPLACED (2026)
"REPLACED is a 2.5D sci-fi retro-futuristic action platformer where you play as R.E.A.C.H. - an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body against its own will. REPLACED combines cinematic platforming, pixel art and free-flow action combat set in an alternative 1980’s."
Are you still excited about either of these XGP titles? Are you losing hope with REPLACED? Talk to us about these delays down below.

Replaced is starting to feel like The Last Night, which was announced way back in 2014 and many said Replaced took a lot of design queues from.
I don't mind. This year is already looking stacked.
Yet, another example of why all developers should and NEED to use the 6 Month Rule.
It is absolutely the overall better experience for EVERY person involved.
What is going on with Replaced? This one and Silksong were both announced more than five years ago now, if I remember correctly. I’ll delete it from my 2025 spreadsheet. That’s a bummer. With Earthblade getting cancelled earlier in the year too, I really hope we get some indie heroes make it in there this year.
Really bummed about REPLACED. That game seems so sleek and stylish, but another Silksong situation. Somebody help these indie devs please 🙈
The Alters looked quite cool, but when I played the demo it was actually boring. Will wait for reviews. At least there's lots of other games coming out this year 😌
@GuyinPA75 100% agree. Look at Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - development started back in July 2019, but it wasn't announced until April 2024, less than a year before it released. It gives folks just enough time to look forward to it, and means the developers don't get pressured into releasing a game unfinished, because it's "taking too long ".
@GuyinPA75 What I have always said, we know what studios are working on roughly but don't need loads of info years in advance. Some of the best received games are because they come out of the blue and are instantly ready for purchasing.
@GuyinPA75 totally agree. Too many announcements for too early leading to delays for gamers and added pressure for devs. It’s often lose:lose
A year delay 😭😭😭 was looking forward to replaced we need more indies on gp
Replaced kinda looks like Deadlight, visually 👍
Replaced really do seem to be having issues.
They both look excellent and promising. I’d rather they take all the time they need to be good. We don’t need more mediocre “okay” titles on game pass. Why waste your gaming time? These can both be great.
@Kaloudz I was just about to say, this year I have a massive backlog of phenomenal games thanks to gamepass and Xbox lol. Replaced looks great but I'm okay to wait if it means the game gets the polish it deserves.
@Master_Cthulhu70 Couldn't have said it any better myself!
