As part of a new financial call this week, EA has given its new Battlefield game a more defined release window, as the publisher plots the series' Xbox return. Battlefield 6 is set to hit PC and current-gen consoles in "fiscal year 2026" - which is sometime between April 2025 and March 2026.
We'd hazard a guess that the Battlefield owner is planning to release its next mainline entry this fall, with a backup of early 2026 if the game needs a little bit more development time. Of course, this is just a projected release window for now, and BF6 also has a chance at slipping beyond March '26.
The team announced earlier this week that Battlefield Labs is being introduced this time around, as a way to bring fans in to help build the game before it releases. After the backlash from Battlefield 2042, this is probably a good idea, although it could lead to a longer and more complicated development timeline.
"Battlefield Labs is a place for us to test concepts and experiences we’re excited about with you, our players. We want our community to play a key role in the future of Battlefield and this is an opportunity for many of you to do just that.
Even in pre-alpha, we are proud of where the game is at. We tirelessly playtest, but your feedback will supercharge our development as we strive to hit that perfect note between form, function, and feel.
This is an unprecedented moment for Battlefield."
Either way, for now, EA is full-speed ahead on Battlefield 6, with a batch of its internal studios helping bring the game to life. We know that Criterion, DICE, EA Motive and Ripple Effect are all working on the new title - the latter of which developed 'Portal' for 2042; a feature set to return for Battlefield 6 in fiscal year 2026.
When do you think Battlefield 6 will actually release? Pull the pin and toss your explosive predictions down below.

I wonder if this is a franchise that should just avoid the coveted holiday window. Yes it's when a lot of people are buying games but it's also call of duty time (and probably gta 6 time). Maybe feb-mar would be better.
Battlefield: yet another franchise that falls under the "EA is going to balls this up or abandon it completely" banner. I mean, were Dead Space, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Titanfall and Need For Speed not enough?
I hope it's good, I really do, but in the last 5-10 years, what's EA done to earn the benefit of the doubt?
@Markatron84 EA did put out a couple of good Star Wars games….
@Markatron84 Even apex legends fell from grace
I do wonder how much this expects to dominate. I almost don't hear about Battlefield these days, not in the way that we used to hear about it (back when 3 and 4 were a thing).
@AlwaysPlaying fair; they did put out Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor. Except, oh wait, neither game was at all polished at launch, and on PC Survivor is still somewhat borked. And the less said about the Battlefront games - especially II - the better.
as long as it is sweaty men killing each other with fun weapons, no pink nicki, no stupid heroes, bf3 destruction back from 2011, and maybe milsim mode its gonna be a hit!
I really hope this one bodes better then there last entry
@Lurkes "Ahh! Killing sweaty men with fun weapons is TIGHT!!!!" 🤣
Sorry, just using a quote from one of my favourite youtube channels. I was hoping we might see this earlier, I love the Battlefield series. Most of the versions have had rough launches, but they always end up being a lot of fun to play.
@RetroMan71, barely an inconvenience
@Misternobody 🤣 Love it! 👍
