Last month, an online rating was spotted for Resident Evil 6 on Xbox Series X|S, and although that's not led to a formal current-gen announcement from Capcom just yet, another classic Resi game has appeared on the ESRB ratings board this week.
Resident Evil 5, 2009's mainline RE title that heavily featured co-op in pretty much every aspect of the game, has been rated for Xbox Series X|S in the US. Here's the rating posted online, along with the ESRB's description of the title:
Now, we're not exactly sure what this rating relates to - and until Capcom comes out and announces something, there's no real way to know. Of course, Resident Evil 5 is playable on current-gen Xbox consoles thanks the backwards compatible Xbox One version, but there's no specific Series X|S edition available at the time of writing.
As we mentioned in our RE6 post last month, it seems likely that if these things come out at some point soon they'd be simple ports rather than full remakes, but we'll take them either way - especially if they're technically enhanced in any way. Come on Capcom, it's about time we heard more about what's next for Resident Evil!

Where's my Code Veronica remake?
I finally got around to playing RE2 remake last weekend and generally can see why it was so praised, but I gotta say as a fan of the original the B-side (second playthroughs) are pretty disappointing. In the original the two parts made sense and together made a whole story. But in the remake it feels very dialled in, and the story doesn't work e.g. the same NPC dying twice in difference ways. Good game overall but that aspect is much worse.
Onto RE3 and RE4 remakes. Perhaps this RE5 remake will be out by the time I roll around to it.
@themightyant I gotta do another RE2 Remake run sometime soon, bloody love that game.
Enjoy 3 and 4! The latter especially is an absolute banger.
@Kezelpaso Will do. I played all the originals many times over, but have been sitting on all the remakes for a while.
RE5 counts as a classic now? Damn, I feel old.
@themightyant Go into 3 with the image in your mind that it's an expansion pack for 2, and you wont be left too upset. It's a great game when all is said and done, but short would be an understatement. 4 though? That's just as good as 2, if not better if you enjoyed the OG as much as I did.
As for RE5 (and RE6), surely these are remasters? Which feels radically pointless. Unless they're revisioned remasters? In which case I am on board, but if they're just remasters, that seems stupid to me unless they are about to reveal a remake of RE1.
@Kezelpaso I just noticed the rating mentions "in-game purchases"... The hell could that be? This isn't mentioned on the old Xbox One version from the same rating board, and if memory serves, there were never in-game purchases to be made in this game. Same thing goes for RE6 (which also lists in-game purchases in the new ratings, but not in the older ones).
You can buy a DLC that gives you access to all guns straightaway in the (I think all!) Resident Evil games, @Kaloudz. Maybe it's for something like that...?
@Kaloudz Most of the RE: games have MTX for outfits and early unlocks of infinite weapons etc. that you can get in the game for completing with S Rank (speedrun)
@themightyant @Fiendish-Beaver Thanks guys. I honestly don't remember this for Resident Evil 5 and 6 though? As far as I recall, wasn't it just DLC expansions? Hence why previous versions (Xbox One, PS4) don't have "in-game purchases" listed on their ratings. Or am I lost in my mind?
@Kaloudz probs some bs dlc 😂 pretty sure the ada missions were unlocked on re4 by completing game then the remaster saw it as a dlc I'm sure 🤣😠either way poo resi 5 out of em all😥 only one worse is 6 🤣
Would rather have resident evil survivor remake than 5 when it stopped been resi ðŸ˜
@Decimateh Resi 6 sucked so bad, but that boulder punching Chris scene from Resi 5 is by far, by farrrrr, the daftest thing in the whole series 🤣 and that's saying a lot for a series shrouded in everything that goes against science.
I do wonder though, what they will add for games that are both already available via BC (do we still call it BC for games that you can play on Series that are from X1?) and only 9 years old? Surely they can't do that much more that the Xbox One version already did?
I'd stake my money that these go beyond typical remaster work. There's got to be more to these remasters than them just being prettied up.
I can't see both of them being properly remade. I'm assuming these will just be 4K updates.
They better makes the SX version a free upgrade because I have bought RE5 along with 4 and 6 waaaaaaaay too many times on way too many devices.
I will however pay anything they want for a classic RE collection and on multiple devices.
The worst game in the main series in my opinion. It should be more than just some better graphics or resolution.
RE5 is the only game in the series I liked. Great coop game.
@Kaloudz mercenaries as dlc ðŸ˜
@Decimateh God no! I'd rather PvP than mercenaries. I hate that crap lol.
@Jenkinss Really? Which ones (and which versions) have you played if you don't mind my asking?
@Kaloudz 🤣🤣🤣 worst thing is if it was that it's another free thing been sold as dlc😠but can't see any PvP tbh as they've just took the PvP game off or are doing aren't they?
@Decimateh Yes thank god lol. To me, the only multiplayer resident evil that works, is Outbreak 1 and 2. Coop kinda worked in 5, but 5 and 6 were hardly survival horror games to me. More like Tomb Raider games.
@Kaloudz ye that's why 5 sucks it's not resi 😥 was ok back 360 days getting smashed wi mates like but 💩 to play solo as resi 🤣 ye would be interesting to see how outbreaks work if they re did them as was made as online but they're wasn't much online those days 🤣 I didn't have internet or pc so was stuck with the computer ai ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
@Decimateh Oh god man, bless your soul. Resident Evil AI sucked so bad. Nowt worse than holding a door open for an AI character that's a mile away every bloody time, or one that gets stuck running into the corner of a wall. Sheva... I hated her.
@Kaloudz can't remember the character myself tbh but ye it was awful I basically tried doing most of it solo 🤣
RE5 played with a friend = fantastic!
RE5 played with Sheva AI = I sleep.
@Kaloudz well since you asked... i couldn't tell you for sure, maybe 1 and 2? Played them on a friend's playstation and couldn't believe how bad they were, the only thing scary about them was the controls. It felt like they took the worst controlling game of all time, Alone in the Dark, and used that as a template. I also think the entire series has a completely idiotic story. Maybe it's for anime fans, I don't know. I liked 5 a lot because it was just dumb co-op fun, sort of like Army of Two, where I can just ignore the story.
@Jenkinss Ah right. I have to ask, are you talking about the remake? 2 remake? If you've only played the OG games, I would highly recommend picking up 2 and 3 via Game Pass. The controls are modern (not tank controls like the OG) and the whole things have been revamped from the ground up. RE2 Remake especially. It's one hell of a scary game.
@Kaloudz Just the originals. Do the new ones have co-op? I don't find anything at all redeeming about the story in these games, the only reason I really liked 5 was because it was like playing Gears or Army of Two with my wife and the co-op gameplay was really well done. Lots of asymmetrical situations specifically designed for co-op, it's an excellent game if that's what you like.
@Jenkinss Oh no, in that case it probably isn't your cup of tea if it's co-op you are looking for. Excellent if you're interested in a 15 hour horror fest (which it really, really does well at keeping you on the edge of your seat) with puzzles, and a refined (much better story than the OG). But if it's strictly co-op you're after, certainly don't come here haha. Did you try RE6? That has the same co-op system as RE5.
@Kaloudz I was going to say yes but I checked trueachievements to confirm and it looks like I didn't. Also it turns out I 1K'd RE5, I guess we really did like it a lot 😂
@Jenkinss Ah man if you loved 5 for the coop, you'll love 6. It's exactly the same sort of coop but longer (much longer) and split across three different campaigns that intertwine with one another - all of which are 2 player coop. The gameplay is exactly the same.
