We've reported on a rumour today from Nate the Hate's podcast about a couple of Xbox first-party titles jumping over to the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, but something else he mentioned related to the Final Fantasy series on Xbox.
Even though the podcast is titled "predictions", he mentions at one point that he "can confirm" Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth will be coming to Xbox in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Here's the full quote:
"I think following the announcement of Final Fantasy 16 [for Xbox], we will see Square Enix confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to Xbox. Now, my speculation is that this announcement will take place at the Developer Direct. I want to make that part clear."
"But, I can confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to Xbox. Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released in 2025, Rebirth will follow in 2026. These games will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2."
As referenced, there is another part to this as well. Although he doesn't confirm it, Nate says that he's "kind of expecting" to see Final Fantasy 16 at the Xbox Developer Direct event this month - with the game even potentially getting shadow dropped on the same day. Again though, this seems to be leaning more towards a prediction.
We don't have long to find out if Final Fantasy does show up at the Xbox Developer Direct, as that event takes place in less than two weeks on January 23rd. Whatever the case may be, we're hoping this rumour is along the right lines!
Do you want to see these Final Fantasy games on Xbox? Let us know down in the comments below.

I'm partly excited, but I also don't like what they've done to FFVII with these remakes. I wish they would've just remastered the original and been done with it.
It's about time. This will make almost every mainline FF game (minus 11) available on Xbox for the first time... ever?
(Also yea 11 was on the 360 but I'm referring to current playable games.)
The Developer_Direct really seems like the wrong place for these. It’s great they are coming to Xbox - but the direct is to deep dive into the actual studios making the games and discussing their approach. That seems odd to do with games that have already come out (albeit on other platforms).
Fair warning for achievement hunters: the trophy lists for the FF7 Remake games on PlayStation are some of the worst out there. Absolute trash. Nightmarish, ludicrously absurd difficulty related trophies and abysmal, incredibly tedious collection related trophies. I have the platinums, I speak from experience. The game director Hamaguchi has gone on record to issue a public apology for the ***** list, although he seems too lazy to patch his failure. Fingers crossed the Xbox achievement lists are fixed and not the filth the games originally launched with on Sony’s machines. Good news is that piss poor director had nothing to do with FF16, which has a comparably fine trophy list.
Not interested at all in VII. Kinda curious about XVI, would try it on a sale.
Super excited for all 3 of these games, I've only played remake of them so far and loved every second.
But taking this with a pinch of salt, because these rumours burn me every time 😭
Yes please, I'm definitely down for FF7R and Rebirth (assuming there is any truth to this rumour)
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 7 Remake join the long list of games formerly exclusive to PlayStation that are landing on Xbox: Kena, Sifu, Death Stranding (then Death Stranding 2), Persona 3 Reload, Forspoken, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Final Fantasy VII, Kingdom Hearts, MLB The Show, Nioh, spyro, crash bandicoot (because acquisitions for the last 2), etc...
@fatpunkslim i see you are trying to show people that both companies are sending their exclusives over to each other and all is wonderful... this is not the same thing at all as to what MS is doing... there's really no way to spin it
@fatpunkslim Again, 1st and 2nd party games are not comparable to 3rd party games.
No games owned by Sony are coming to Xbox.
Games owned by Microsoft are going to Playstation.
Simple as that.
Don't care about them on playstation...don't care about them on Xbox ....never liked the games ...gave ff 16 a chance and my god that games so boring...it went all down hill quick after what was a pretty epic opening
@fatpunkslim When was Nioh announced for Xbox?
@InterceptorAlpha save your breathe my friend.
SQUARE's deal killed the (sales) momentum for this game. Maybe they agreed years before Remake was released. Still, I don't know what they were thinking. Could be the projected cost of development was a concern, and they sold out. Take out a loan(s), in that case.
Each title was delayed for PC and in limbo for Xbox. Remake was a year late and Rebirth is a $40 preorder as a result.
Guess that's good for those still waiting but my interest came and sailed long ago.
Loved both games, nice of more gamers get to play them!
I stopped having interest on the final fantasy franchise years ago. I would try the ff16 on a sale though and i am mostly happy for final fantasy friends on xbox that waited for this!
These were literally my most wanted ports. I caved and bought ff7 remake on ps4 but I'll just wait to play it now
I am praying we get something else in the Developer Direct. Xbox can announce this in a longer form showcase in a sizzle reel…
I would sink the cash tomorrow
Nice, 10/11 years after announcement. I remember how excited I was back then. Obama was president. Thanks Square.
With 145 hours in on FF7 remake on the ps4 and 3 trophies away from the platinum, I would which will happen first, me finally get the platinum in FF7 remake or FF7 remake get a Xbox release. For FF7 remake buy guess is SE signed a deal with Sony to release the game exclusively on the Playstation and was paid in advance to release the game likely on the ps4. SE likely rushed FF7 remake to get it out on the ps4 so they could fulfill their end of the deal.
@InterceptorAlpha that's exactly what I said...what MS and Sony are doing aren't the same... I don't know why people try to act like it is lol
@Elbow Plus the fact that Final Fantasy XI is not part of the BC library, since they discontinued the XBOX 360 version several dozen updates ago.
Still, I know I'd not mind if, by the end of the year, I could have, on my game list, FF1-10, a gap, then FF12-16. all playable natively. I've got used to the nature of that gap. It's the same 'gap' as that Phantasy Star Universe isn't on BC because they vehemently discontinued it.
Ok no seriously, how many times has Purexbox reported that these games are "confirmed " to be coming ? HAS to be 10 times lol
I’m glad they’re being ported but I am not interested in playing these games
While it does seem pretty much guaranteed they'd come at some point considering Square Enix's updated multiplatform strategy. I don't believe they'll be announced here, it doesn't fit the nature of what Developer Direct is about.
I think it's more likely what happened for FF in September 2018 with Switch 1 is repeated. They'll be announced for Switch 2 in a Nintendo video (Switch 2 reveal or Nintendo Direct) and then get confirmation of Xbox port afterwards.
@fatpunkslim Forspoken isn't hasn't been announced for Xbox nor has Nioh. P3 Reloaded and MGS Collection were never exclusive to PS, Crash 4 again never exclusive. Like so much misinformation with your post. Also there's a difference between 2nd and 3rd party games and actual 1st party games and its why God of War will never come over and why Xbox fans aren't happy Halo will no doubt hit PS5.
One of the most overrated video game series ever made same goes for uncharted
FF7R is in such a weird state I have to see how it ends. 16 looks fun though.
It's about time. Final Fantasy 16 is whatever imo as it isn't a very good FF game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth, and maybe the third game day one is very exciting as the first two are great games. Even if I personally had some issues with both.
Better have PlayAnywhere or I expect Xbox Series X discs for retail. No excuses Square and Microsoft no ***** around anymore.
