Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster arrived on Xbox last week and it looks like the latest entry in Square Enix's long-running RPG series could also make its way across to Microsoft's consoles in the future.
Following Final Fantasy XVI game director Hiroshi Takai mentioning how he would like to see the new game on Xbox, the producer Naoki 'YoshiP' Yoshida has told fans to "not give up in terms of their hopes" as the team still wants to "release it on Xbox".
Here's what he had to say in full (via Video Games on SI):
"Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox. But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything. But of course, I want to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in terms of their hopes."
Previous rumours have suggested Final Fantasy 16 could arrive on Xbox in late 2024 or early 2025. One other factor is it's reportedly been locked in an 'exclusivity' window under Sony's control.
Apart from the recent Pixel Remaster, earlier this year in February Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV Online on Xbox Series X|S.

I dunno. I love Final Fantasy, but the new VII remakes and XVI just don't interest me. Glad I have the Pixel Remasters now, though.
Would much rather have FFVIIR
I’d def play it. Similar to Yakuza/LaD I’m
Slowly trying to them all…but only so much time
@DJKingaling the newer, turn-based games are amazing. I've gone back to play Yakuza Kiwami and it's pretty good. I prefer the turn-based, but the story is great either way.
What a load of bull just do it then how many times have they said this about games just do it so enough talk and I don't even care about these games!
I’ve already played the blurry, Vaseline-filter game on base PS5 at launch and can say with utmost confidence the only decent ways to play this are either PC or possibly the PS5 Pro. I can’t even imagine what the series S version will be like.
I don't expect this until mid next year at best. It just came out on PC and they repeatedly talked about how they weren't working on console ports until that was done.
We are in this weird space where the developers have to give cryptic messages like this because there are several 'insiders' that basically operate as pro-Xbox propaganda outlets, saying anything they can to boost the brand ("It's coming!" "Everything from Square!"). So now a bunch of people have false expectations for a timeline of seeing XVI and VIIR when they aren't close.
@FarmDog08 yeah I def love Y7 and Infinite Wealth. The combat in Ishin and Y0 is really good. I’m currently playing Gaiden and I’m not sure why but I just don’t like the combat as much 🤷♂️
I believe Xbox will eventually get the last 3 big ones (XVI, VIIRm and VII Rb). What I'm curious to see is when Xbox will get XVII in relation to PS and maybe even Nintendo
@DJKingaling i played Gaiden before IW dropped to see that perspective. I'm on the last chapter of Yakuza Kiwami and I'm thinking of starting Yakuza 0 next.
My advice is if you’ve not played this yet and are hoping it comes to Xbox, don’t get excited, because the game is absolute dog poo.
The game is an odd duck compared to the traditional FF's. But I would still love to see it on Xbox. On the plus side it has my favorite version of Cid.
@Fenbops I agree the game is awful. I only beat it because it was a mainline Final Fantasy game, but I found myself being bored throughout the entire play through.
@Johnnel same. The pacing is horrible, there’s fetch quests in the main story, the side quests are the most brain dead boring quests I can remember in a game and the combat is for children. Awful game.
I will gobble up all the square stuff.
Modern Final Fantasy's look so unappealing to me. Haven't been remotely interested in one since FFXII. I forced myself to play through FFVIII and haven't touched any since (besides 14 but that's a different deal).
Square Enix ‘wants to release Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox’
Well based on the exclusivity loses that's just the beginning of many more to come.
So why don’t they bring it out on Xbox already then?
