Rumour: Bethesda's Oblivion Re-Release Will Be 'Fully Remade' By Developer Virtuos

In recent months, we've heard multiple rumours about a modern re-release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Within those rumours, it's not been clear whether this new version of the game will be a remaster or a full remake - but a new report today has suggested that Bethesda is going down the full remake route with this re-release.

Outlet MP1st has apparently found an ex-developer's website that tells us a lot more about this Oblivion remake than any other public information so far. The site hasn't outed which Virtuos dev this comes from, but it seemingly reveals that the team is making proper gameplay changes to this new version of Oblivion.

The undisclosed site reveals that the game will be "fully remade" in Unreal Engine 5, and the page also reportedly mentions six areas that will be spruced up. These are "Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD."

MP1st goes into a bit more detail about what it's unearthed:

"For the Blocking system, ideas to improve it were taken from Souls-like and “ACT” games (we’re not sure which games this refers to, but our guess is the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy), as the original system was considered too “boring” and “frustrating.”

The Sneak icons are now highlighted in the improved Sneak system, and the damage calculation methods were reworked.

The stamina system was modified to be less frustrating for the player, making the knockdown that occurs when stamina is depleted more difficult to activate through changes in calculation methods.

The HUD was changed to make it easier to understand and more aesthetically appealing to young players.

Hit reactions were also added to improve the response to damage inflicted on the player and NPCs.

Finally, Archery was improved to make it more playable and modern in both third and first-person viewpoints."

Ultimately, we haven't seen the webpage in question and cannot confirm these details yet, but MP1st seems pretty confident in this information. For now, anything on this remake is still a rumour and should be taken as such, but we're hopeful that we'll see it in an official capacity sometime soon. The site adds that its "own sources" say the game won't be at Xbox Developer Direct next week, so we'll just have to wait and see when and where the Oblivion remake makes an official appearance.
