In recent months, we've heard multiple rumours about a modern re-release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Within those rumours, it's not been clear whether this new version of the game will be a remaster or a full remake - but a new report today has suggested that Bethesda is going down the full remake route with this re-release.
Outlet MP1st has apparently found an ex-developer's website that tells us a lot more about this Oblivion remake than any other public information so far. The site hasn't outed which Virtuos dev this comes from, but it seemingly reveals that the team is making proper gameplay changes to this new version of Oblivion.
The undisclosed site reveals that the game will be "fully remade" in Unreal Engine 5, and the page also reportedly mentions six areas that will be spruced up. These are "Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD."
MP1st goes into a bit more detail about what it's unearthed:
"For the Blocking system, ideas to improve it were taken from Souls-like and “ACT” games (we’re not sure which games this refers to, but our guess is the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy), as the original system was considered too “boring” and “frustrating.”
The Sneak icons are now highlighted in the improved Sneak system, and the damage calculation methods were reworked.
The stamina system was modified to be less frustrating for the player, making the knockdown that occurs when stamina is depleted more difficult to activate through changes in calculation methods.
The HUD was changed to make it easier to understand and more aesthetically appealing to young players.
Hit reactions were also added to improve the response to damage inflicted on the player and NPCs.
Finally, Archery was improved to make it more playable and modern in both third and first-person viewpoints."
Ultimately, we haven't seen the webpage in question and cannot confirm these details yet, but MP1st seems pretty confident in this information. For now, anything on this remake is still a rumour and should be taken as such, but we're hopeful that we'll see it in an official capacity sometime soon. The site adds that its "own sources" say the game won't be at Xbox Developer Direct next week, so we'll just have to wait and see when and where the Oblivion remake makes an official appearance.
Excited about this, folks? Talk to us about these reported Oblivion gameplay tweaks down below.

Hoping it isn't just another Skyrim
Exciting news, somewhat dampened by it being on stutterfest 5
I'm a bit surprised by the third-party involvement, but it gives me hope that Microsoft with license their dormant and unused IPs to third-parties for development in the future.
My issues are that I hope it’s real, but, secondarily, I hope they don’t ruin the damn thing. Part of its charm was that it wasn’t perfect and was more of an immersive sim. Yeah, it has huge problems; but streamline too much, and it won’t be fun anymore. Or it’ll just be Skyrim, a watered down checklist experience.
Hopefully it's coming out soon enough I'm sick of hearing about games ages away!!
This should be coming out soon. I mean, it's been on and off in the news for years. Get it done already or stop talking about it until it's done.
If this is real I'm really worried about how UE5 is going to handle the physic systems and object persistence Bethesda games are known for. What the engine allows is a big reason why Bethesda hasn't moved on and just keeps building on top of the rickety Gamebryo bones. That's even without getting into the stuttery mess UE has been for a while now.
Better to have it re-made from the ground up than do what they do with Skyrim, which is re-release it without fixing anything and create new bugs for a somehow progressingly worse experience every time.
The unreal engine aspect seems kind of *****. I would expect a Halo CE remaster job with QoL sprinkled in before a complicated remake.
The animation system needs to be completely redone. It's horrific by today's standards. Heck, it was bad when the game came out!
Just fix the atrocious level scaling and we're good.
I agree with the above post. Unreal doesn’t seem up to 10,000 cheese wheels spilling down a waterfall. But if they fix the leveling system it might be worth it.
The game being made in UE5 instead of Creation(if true) is a big letdown for me. Hope it turns out good but that's a big red flag right out of the gate.
While fair as Skyrim gets all the re-release focus and Obvilion has a lot of interesting stuff in it worthy for people to experience.
It would be nice if other IPs got the focus. Bethesda's other games/other studios games. Or even I don't know anything else under Microsoft would be nice, but nope.
I have the 360 version, I'm good. I don't care for much with it anyway. But for those that haven't played it/those that want to go back to it with enhancements hopefully this turns out well.
Then again even Arena/Daggerfall are free on PC because they can't be bothered to do anything with them and they are too old and cryptic for modern gamers so only those that prefer that old style or power through will get enjoyment from them. Why would they bother remaking those either?
@SuntannedDuck2 a daggerfall remake would be epic if they fixed some of the wackiness that game was amazing for it's day.
Oblivion was great but it was dumbed down from Morrowind and Skyrim was dumbed down from oblivion. I had fun in all the games though
I would prefer a Morrowind then Oblivion remake by the time I was done playing 6 might be out.
