A new discovery on job-seeking platform LinkedIn has lent even more weight to existing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster rumours. This time around, an art director at support studio Virtuos has updated their profile to say that they're working on "an unannounced UE5 PS5/XSX/PC remake", which is suspected to be a new version of Bethesda RPG Oblivion.
These rumours first started in the summer of 2023, when a schedule for upcoming Bethesda titles leaked showing plans for an Oblivion remaster. Although this was seemingly delayed from the team's original schedule, rumours about the remaster / remake resurfaced just last month, hinting that the project is still in the works.
Those more recent rumours directly tied this particular support studio (Virtuos) to the project, and combined with today's LinkedIn discovery from the company's art director - well, it's looking more and more likely that Oblivion is indeed this mystery Virtuos "UE5 remake".
Fancy a bit more context that feeds into all of this speculation? Well, more than three years ago, a very similar rumour tied Virtuos to the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake — including a LinkedIn post at the time — a project that was confirmed by Konami years after the fact. This new version of Oblivion is yet to be announced by Microsoft & Bethesda (and we don't know if it'll be a full remake or a remaster), but its existence is looking more and more likely by the day.
What are your thoughts on all of this, folks? Does this all seem pretty likely at this point? Talk to us about it down in the comments.

I really hope that Oblivion is being remastered as I have not played the original, and struggle to play older games as they often feel their age by modern standards. If it really does exist, I shall definitely buy it...
I wonder how much the horse armour will cost in the remaster
Jokes aside. I've never played ESIV, I'd certainly give it a go via GPU
It would make sense to get something Elder Scrolls out, ES6 is still years away and it's been a long time since ES has been anything but Skyrim and ESO.
But will it have new glitches and not fix any old ones, like every new version of Skyrim?
I can’t play Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallouts 3/4/76 for 20mins straight without getting stuck in the stairs, falling through the floor, literally keeling over dead for no reason as if my character just had a heart attack or encountering any one of a thousand other game breaking bugs or glitches.
If Virtuos wrote come c++ code on a piece of notebook paper and flushed it down the toilet, we’d automatically receive a higher quality, more optimized game than anything Bethesda has ever done.
I’m not worried at all about whatever Virtuos puts out if indeed they are doing this remake.
Is it really a remaster if its using UE5 though?
Wouldn't that qualify more as a remake if it's in an entirely new engine?🤔
@Balaam_ Is that all on PC? I've played through Oblivion multiple times on console without ever having a game-breaking bug, and only minimal glitches. I've mostly played Bethesda games on console and always thought the complaints about bugs were overstated, but I'm curious if it has more to do with where you play.
I wish it was morrowind but i'm interested
@InvaderFromSpace it's less an issue of where they're playing and more a case of gross exaggeration.
yes please! I grew up playing this game. I'll flip out if this is true.
The best news story I could ever hear is if the next Elder Scrolls would ditch the Creation Engine and use Unreal 5
@ZuneTattooGuy I also hope they update the engine for their next big release. I've had some good times in the creation engine but I'm definitely ready to move on.
@Markatron84 ya I have a ton of hours in all their games and there are bugs, but what he's describing I have never experienced. on topic I wish it were Morrowind with just a combat system update. that game was so good the non hand holding and being able to kill main quest characters. It was to me their best of the bunch oblivion is tons of fun though.
here is a tip for crazy fun in oblivionsteal the goblin totems from the 6 or 7 different goblin tribes and place them all together some where with guards you get a giant melw when the goblins try to take them back and free loot from the bodies
Or it could be something else entirely… Todd Howard said recently no remaster or remake, not that that necessarily means anything.
I’m super skeptical. But I’d love for either a remaster or a remake. 20th anniversary is 2026 tho.
If true, I hope it doesn´t beat the Skyblivion-mod to the finish-line. Those guys have been chipping away at an Oblivion remake as a Skyrim mod for years, and it´s supposed to wrap up this year.
I´ll probably end up playing both anyway, but after all this time the Skyblivion team really does deserve their moment in the sun when they finally release.
I would be more surprised that MS/Bethesda would be out-sourcing their Oblivion remake to a third party chinese developer. Mainly because they don't need to.
