Update []: The winners have now been crowned! As highlighted elsewhere on Pure Xbox, Indiana Jones won the "Best Xbox Game" award and was "Runner-Up" for GOTY:
Original Story: It's very much awards season right now, and with The Game Awards just around the corner, the folks at IGN have also revealed all the nominees for their awards categories - one of which is specifically focused around Xbox games.
The outlet has picked six games to nominate for the Xbox award, four of which are first-party titles. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle makes the list despite only launching a few days ago, as do Flight Simulator 2024 and Stalker 2.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Dungeons Of Hinterberg
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
- Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
- STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Out of these, just one game has made the overall Game of the Year nominees list in the form of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Indy's adventure joins 13 other titles in a bid to be crowned the overall top release of 2024.
- Animal Well
- Astrobot
- Balatro
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
- Helldivers 2
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Infinity Nikki
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
- Silent Hill 2
- The Case of the Golden Idol
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
The winners for all of IGN's awards categories will be revealed during the week of December 16-20, with a special livestream taking place on the Friday where you can find out the official IGN Game of the Year.
Of course, you'll soon be able to vote on your own Xbox Game of the Year here at Pure Xbox as well - we're waiting a little longer so you can play Indiana Jones a bit more, and then we'll let you submit your votes this weekend!
Which of these do you think deserves to win the Game of the Year award? Tell us down below.

Congratulations, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you deserve it!
Glad to see Indy getting recognition. I have problems with this list in general though; there are some glaring omissions and also some fodder whose presence I can’t explain.
Senua without a doubt is my personal game of the year it's a Masterpiece (the only game I have ever called that)
Black Ops 6, Silent Hill 2, Wukong, Indiana and Stalker are the only other ones I have played on that list but each one is excellent as well
No Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth for GOTY is unnnaceptable.
Indy for Xbox game of the year.
Though I’m still doing lots in the Vatican.
Then Stalker 2 and COD.
@PurvisP
And yet we keep hearing how 2024 was a bad year for gaming… I liked Hellblade 2, but found it inferior to Senua’s Sacrifice. Production values are through the roof, but gameplay is lacking IMO. Great to see Indy included. Currently playing it and it’s a dream come true for any Indy fan.
I'm only about 3-4 hours in but if Indiana Jones keeps this up, or gets better it's surely going to be on my GOTY list.
@gollumb82 Not sure about everyone else but I thought 2024 was filled with great games to play. While Metacritic score isn't everything we still had 17 releases that scored 90+ and 66 that scored 85+. That's higher than most years, even comparable or generally better than celebrated years like 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2023. I think the main difference is there hasn't been one huge AAA title like Baldur's Gate 3 or Breath of the Wild to get behind, but there's been plenty of great games to play if you're willing to look around.
This is the first time anyone even remembered Hell blade 2 existed in the last 6 months
@themightyant
Honestly, being a 40+ guy means I don’t have nearly enough time to keep up with the newest releases. I feel like I’m playing catch up all the time. My point is that I don’t need a particular year to be filled with bangers as I’m trying to play those from years past lol. With that said, I do believe us gamers should be grateful for the amazing digital journeys our hobby grants us and simply enjoy the ride, rather than play tribal wars over whose gaming hardware is better, gets more quality games and especially if a given year is a dud etc.
@gollumb82 Yup! I'm 42 and between family and work I have to be very selective with what I play. This is also why I love GamePass Ultimate so much. Play a game, if I don't like it, bounce to the next or play an older game. No FOMO here.
I'm so happy for Hellblade 2 being on the list. Whilst not for everyone, it will always be an incredible experience for me. Congrats to NT for what they have achieved 👏.
@gollumb82 Totally agree. My backlog is long and i'm usually playing games years later. But Game Pass makes me more likely to play Day 1.
@Sol4ris My game of the year is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Hellblade 2 is one of the most visually impressive games that have been made. It's never boring, in spite of the linear gameplay and epic yet choreographed battles. It's very intense and the most stunning Unreal Engine 5 game so far. I can't wait to see what they achieve with their next project.
@Banjo-
I downloaded Indy last night but won't be able to play it until Thursday(sad face). Looks like MacineGames have made something really special. Can't wait to start Indy's adventure myself.
Nice to see Stalker 2 getting some recognition. It is punching for my GOTY.
Helldivers 2 is a shoo-in for game of the year for sure. Such a great game.
Since multiplatform games are in the Xbox game of the year category, Final Fantasy XIV is it for me.
I feel like Xbox really dont care anymore about there games like it now takes 5 years or even 10 years by now to make a game they really only care about gamepass.
Am Just saying.
@PurvisP is it that good? Couldnt get into it after first 30 min, seems like a walking simulator. So genuinely asking for an opinion and might give it a second chance. I also dropped the first game somehwre in the middle.
@Millionski If you didn't like the first one then it's very unlikely this one will do it for you. It's stunning to look at but it isn't changing the formula in any way.
(I enjoyed both before I get told otherwise).
@Weebleman I liked the first one but got bored in the middle. Kinda on the fence tbh. I have thrown both into my backlog list tho, I think they deserve second chance at some point
@Millionski
It truly is a Masterpiece but not everyone's, sounds like it's just not for you
Like yourself there are some games I have played and dropped them early on but upon returning later found them to be excellent, the most recent was Detroit Become Human, tried it before and thought nah not for me but then tried it again and wow so glad i did
