Yesterday brought us the official nominations for The Game Awards 2024, which includes 11 Xbox-owned games in all, but none of them are Forza Horizon 5 - and the game's social media team are clearly a bit annoyed by that fact!
Taking to Twitter just after the the announcement, they made it clear that Forza Horizon 5 deserved to be included in the "Best Ongoing" category, and obviously a lot of FH fans were in agreement! Here's a look:
So, what actually are the "Best Ongoing" nominees? Instead of Forza Horizon 5, we've got Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy XIV, Fortnite and Helldivers 2. All good games, but we understand the irritation about FH5 as well.
Ultimately, there are a lot of titles that could have made this list (including from Xbox Game Studios) but just these five will be up for the award on December 12th. Do you think Forza Horizon deserved to be there? Tell us below!
What do you think of The Game Awards nominations in general? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I love it when devs drag the Game Awards lmaoo.
yes it should have, a lot of xbox MP games get snubbed
A bit delusional if you ask me.. it's a good game, but was a bit boring/sameish compared to FH4. Also, nominees are genuine juggernauts compared to FH5..
Got my vote! The amount of DLC and effort the put in this title has been great! Still my go to game all year!
It's a very short shortlist and a LOT of good ongoing games are going to miss out.
But most of the big new content in Forza Horizon 5 was added years ago. Expansions were in 2022 and 2023, not sure it deserves an award in 2024 specifically.
Meanwhile Genshin Impact isn't on the list and adds more new content and mechanics every year than many full games, i'd have that well before Forza for 2024. But the reality is not everyone can be nominated. Tough choices, some worthy games will always miss out.
@themightyant I'd agree. Forza is great but it's been fairly stagnant this year.
It is strange that Destiny 2 is on the list. I'm sure they could have replaced that with something more worthy.
@JoyfulFire Destiny is ALWAYS in a love/hate relationship with it's players (to be honest it's the same with a lot of live services... we know we should quit... and yet...). But Final Shape is regarded as one of the best Destiny expansions ever and seems to have delivered a satisfying conclusion to a decade long story. That seems like a good fit to me.
I’d have nominated it instead of Shadow of the Erdtree. The dlc was a far more rich, fulfilling experience for a die hard souls veteran like myself, but…it’s a dlc. Doesn’t matter how awesome or how big, it should not be included in GotY talks. Ergo, out with Elden Ring, in with FH5. Although in all honesty Silent Hill 2 or Stellar Blade deserve that spot more.
Is this really "throwing shade"? 🤔
I'll admit it is throwing shade when Playground calls out Keighley for always wearing a suit with trainers like he's a chav at a wedding.
Sorry but Hot Wheels expansion 2.0 was supremely uninteresting. Along with all of Forza 5.
People do understand that this isn't actually an awards show right? It's all about Geoffrey getting his $$. He has no problem showing he's not a fan of Xbox, purposely tries to rile up the fan base for engagement and will shove adds down everyone's throats unless Kojima has something to say.
Good on him for getting a good business running, but it's not actually real and not sure folks realize that. If it's your jam enjoy the show.
Forza Horizon 4 comes out and "It's not better than 3".
Forza Horizon 5 comes out and "It's not better than 4".
Forza Horizon 6 comes out and "It's not better than 5"...
Just sour grapes - or a good way of making themselves relevant when ignored. Easy PR by getting people talking about FH5 again, even if just for a day or two.
But no - it's no better than any of those games on the list.
I prefer FH4 to FH5, but recently tried the Badlands rally content and I’m loving cruising through those dirt stages in my Focus RS 2001 rally car (complete with McRae/Grist livery). FH5 is a great game and should have been included, I think.
And people say other developers are immature.
These awards have been a joke for some time.
@Xbox_Dashboard Horizon 5 Hot Wheels was fine, but Horizon 4 Lego was waaay better.
Someone has to miss out though, there’s a limit.
Personally I never thought Forza would be included, but then I’m also surprised HD2 made it, because more often or not every update is moaned about.
Got bored after 3, as the sequels just felt like glorified DLC maps.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner to be fair, since the "buff everything" updates made everyone happy, the only bad update we've had is the DSS killing us more than it kills the bots and bugs 🤣
Yeah, they are not wrong.
FH4 yes. FH5, no. Horizon 5 just feels so bland and stagnant. I appreciate the continued support but there’s nothing about it I’d consider “award-worthy.”
@themightyant I found Genshin to be obtuse and tiresome after a while, some years ago. If it weren't for the bright colours in a big world and combat tricks I think I would give it a preemptive rejection if it were to release today. All of the activities/modes, locales and characters that gets added can largely serve as deterring bloat to newcomers; such ongoing content cadence mostly keeps the existing players locked in. That could be said about its competitors too, I suppose.
I'm sorry but at least three of those games a race car game isn't going to compete with..... No offense to the racers out there, but just being honest
Let them enjoy their circle jerk.
While FH5 is a competent enough game the series has grown a little stale. For my money FH3 was excellent, FH4 was also very good, but the online features were overbearing. FH5 just felt like more of the same. This smacks of hubris from the dev.
@Cikajovazmaj Remind me, which game on that list has over 40 million players compared to Forza H5
@UBERSICKO well, there is a small caveat with those 40 million people. It's 40 million people who tried/downloaded a game that at one point was the only decent new product MS had on GP. I would assume all 30 million subs (not sure about the number) at least gave it a chance, which is what they would have done for any of the games on that list if they were on GP day 1.
On the other hand on Steam, I think game has a 18k user peak over the last 30 days. I'm not saying it's not popular, it's just not as popular as the likes of Fortnite or Diablo 4.
Don't see the point of complaining about TGA, awards represents 1% of total show time. December games are to be forever forgotten because of non sensical timelines, nominations rules change to accommodate trends, no guidelines to vote are sent to journalists and voting categories do not make sense.
