Back on Tuesday, Xbox and EA treated us to a surprise in the form of Battlefield 1 Revolution at a 100% discount, meaning anyone with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (or EA Play) membership could claim the game for free.
At the time, we mentioned that more games could follow before the promotion wraps up on December 26th, and the second has arrived today! For all of Thursday, EA is giving away Star Wars Battlefront 2 for free on Xbox consoles.
This is also the "Celebration Edition" of the game, which includes a whole bunch of in-game goodies.

You probably remember all the controversy that surrounded Battlefront 2 back at launch in 2017 (it was all to do with lootboxes), but the game was massively turned around in the years that followed, and almost a decade later it remains a fantastic multiplayer experience. There's a proper single-player campaign that's well worth checking out too.
Hopefully this isn't the end of the free games from EA, as Titanfall 2: Ultimate Edition seems to have been teased as well... that's another one that you should definitely add to your library. We'll let you know if it becomes available!
What do you think of Star Wars Battlefront 2 these days? Let us know down in the comments below.

Titanfall 2 for free please!
I’ll need to refresh my memory on the reviews for the single player campaign, but if they’re good then sure I’ll probably claim this one
@Cakefish definitely worth claiming as I believe Battlefront 2 got the bad rep due to microtransactions, but was in fact one of the better shooters and Star Wars games at the time.
I played the single player campaign of this a while back, and it was short, but fun. Worth a shot if you're a Star Wars fan.
I was able to get this and Battlefield 1 no problem but was anyone able to get the Skate 3 DLC Danny’s Hawaiian Dream they were giving away as the day 2 freebie? Cause I wasn’t it kept showing up full price for me
Games with heavy MTX need to be given away once they are not selling any longer. If that's good for those who can avoid MTX then bring it on!
Worth noting they are also free on PSN if that's your prefered platform....
@Titntin But they’re only free if your an EA Play member on PlayStation though right? (Also a requirement on Xbox obviously)
Does this game have cross play?
@awp69 I might be a bit confused here.
Its was on PSN 2020 and is still free if you have remained subbed.
I just downloaded and played a bit recently so I thought it was still free. My bad - its not a current offering unless you added back when it was free.
The same is true for battlefield one which was on PSN in 2022. Still free if you added it then and have remained subbed, but that's not the same I know.
Apologies for the confusion, free to me doesn't necessarily mean free to everyone. Thanks for pointing out the mistake @awp69.
The current availability for GPU is the best way to get these for free then, in case you haven't had them before, and adds even more value to GP, as if there wasn't enough value!
I thought the campaign on this game was great
The Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack is the day 4 giveaway and can now be claimed free
@Ricky-Spanish You're in luck! https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/12/16/ea-play-rewards-december-2024/ the Xbox Wire post already largely previewed the EA play holiday season gifting.
At least according to the graphic, Titan fall 2 will join the list of freebies.
It's not FREE if you're paying for a subscription
I played this when it first launched, and it got a lot of hate for the loot box grind which encouraged you to purchase, but they soon fixed it. Multiplayer is amazing. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and the game really captures the look, the feel and battle scenes from the movies. I'm definitely trying this again...
Personally, if you compared the campaign with others from older games, then it isn't that brilliant, but it's decent. It's free and I would try it if I were you guys. Also the multiplayer angle, which was obviously the focus of this game is pretty fun.
@Dampsponge It's as good as free on Gamepass , unlike Sony Microsoft Don't lock you to their Digital store so you can get a year of Ultimate Gamepass for the price of one AAA game, so one Day One release such as COD6 or Indiana Jones covered the price of Gamepass for another year alone, then there's the fact you also get the games on PC/handheld at No extra cost.
@Rog-X that's if you buy new games most physical Xbox games are now super cheap and you get to keep them trade them in or lend them to a friend gamepass you have nothing to show for your money
@Dampsponge lol, but most new AAA games are not 'super cheap' for physical and they would cost you far more than the price of Ultimate Gamepass from 3rd party over a year no matter if you sold them or not, 'lending them to a friend' that's no where near as good as digital Game sharing Everything you have Digital you can share with a friend including all Day One 1st and 3rd party games and EA Play whilst still also being able to play the games at the same time, And again I am not including the benefits of also getting PC versions included. Plus the fact you don't have to pay anywhere near full price for Xbox Digital games because you are allowed to buy from 3rd party.
You seem to be basing your physical argument as if it were compared to a digital PS5, they are locked into the Sony digital store so that is a totally different thing plus they only get old games on PS Plus Tiers, you even have to have a Sony subscription for Cloud saves on PS5.
@Dampsponge It's like Games with Gold though. Meaning you get the game permanently regardless of if you cancel your sub or not. These aren't Game Pass/EA Play games.
@Trmn8r but you're paying for a subscription to get it so it is not FREE
@Dampsponge Yeah, that's why it says 'Free' instead of just Free in the headline...
