Earlier this year, Xbox's Avowed got delayed to February 2025 - a launch window that now looks busy with the likes of Assassin's Creed Shadows, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds all launching in the same month. However, dev team Obsidian Entertainment isn't worried about the industry's packed schedule.
In a new interview with GamesRadar, Obsidian's Carrie Patel seems rather chill about the whole situation. In fact, Patel says that they're "personally" looking forward to all of those games coming out - and they believe that Obsidian fans "are going to find exactly what they're looking for with Avowed" in February 2025.
"I don't think you're ever going to find a window where absolutely nothing is coming out and you're going to be the only one out for a month. But we're very confident that Avowed is going to stand on its own.
I'm very excited about a lot of those games coming out personally, and I think that we're also a very distinct experience from them."
To add some extra positivity onto the Avowed delay news, Patel also says that the game's Feb. 2025 launch "has just given us more time as a team to fix bugs and do those final tuning passes" - which sounds like great news to us as the game gets polished up for release.
Avowed comes to Xbox Game Pass — in and amongst that busy period for the industry — on February 18th, 2025.

This is hilarious timing given the comment I just made about the game being DOA
Yes it’s in for some very stiff competition next February.
And I think the only big AAA releasing in February not offering a 60fps performance mode.
So they have lost a few there to start with.
Will Xbox ever learn, nope.
Previews look really good and i'm excited for Avowed. But releasing a First person game with no 60fps mode in 2025 seems like a misstep, even if you have to drop settings way back give us the CHOICE. 40fps mode would be a bonus, it's a lovely sweet spot for those with 120Hz TV's
I guess it all depends on what metric they are using to measure success.
Will I be there to give it a try? If it reviews half decently then yeah sure. But I'm on a stacked gamepass deal until October next year. I literally haven't paid a full sub in however long gamepass has been a thing.
So is my engagement worth a damn? I guess only if I am encouraged to resub in the future and I'm not sure I will right now.
Avowed IS practically the only big game releasing around its release window, so they’ve got a real shot to make it stand out, for sure (unless TGA has some big surprises incoming).
@somnambulance I dunno if i would call it the big game. Monster hunter wilds and AC shadows both release within the same month, and those are definitely bigger releases.
@OldGamer999
Isn't Kingdom Come only going to be 60 FPS on PC?
It is the only one with the benefit of gamepass. Avowed might have the most players of these games in February.
“Your overconfidence is your weakness.”
“Your faith in your brand is yours.”
@Lup
Not sure meant more
Assassin Creed
monster Hunter.
@BacklogBrad
Maybe those that have played it for 5 minutes.
Gamepass will go at some point along with Xbox consoles.
Time will tell.
@Bigmanfan Oh yeah, you’re right! Jeez, that’s personal bias on my part!
@Lup I mean... any game can be 60 fps provided it's on a powerful enough PC lol.
@somnambulance Tbf, it could be the best game of the three, on console at least. I'm a little worried about mh wilds performance after that uh.... interesting beta.
I'm expecting MH to be delayed. Even if it does release on time I'll still be giving it a few months. Not into buying games day one only to ruin your experience by playing the worst possible version. Patience is key.
@Bigmanfan I’ll be honest, I outright disliked the beta. Next year’s looking sort of sparse to me at the moment, so I was contemplating getting it, but nah, the beta unsold me completely. AC Shadows… unless it reviews really well, I’ll probably stick to Ghost of Yotei
@Bigmanfan
Yeah, that was my point. I thought the console version was 30 FPS with no other options.
@OldGamer999 just curious what timeframe you have on that because neither of those will happen in the near future. You are probably technically correct because home consoles will likely go away "at some point."
@BacklogBrad
I can see maybe Microsoft not bothering with an Xbox under the tv full powered home console at all for next generation.
If it was not for the USA it would have died already.
The only reason Microsoft are at all concerned about consoles is 50% of GP SUBS are on Xbox consoles and they are stuck what to do.
But all of this is irrelevant, they need to make some bloody quality AAA games that are critically acclaimed. Else it will only be COD keeping them going.
If they Microsoft think they can sell £70 average gamepass fodder games to PS5 and Switch 2 owners they are sadly mistaken, unless it’s COD 🤣
@Lup That makes more sense. I can be a little dense sometimes lol.
@somnambulance I'm a big MH fan personally, so I'm definitely picking it up. I'm in the same boat with shadows though. It'll probably need a 90+ on metacritic to sell me though, cause I'm not a big fan of Ubisoft games.
Those other games listed don't really appeal to me and I doubt I'm unique in that regard so there'll be plenty of players for all of those.
@OldGamer999 I am confident xbox will have an xbox in stores 10 years from now. I also don't think xbox or playstation will expect us to connect a plastic box to a display in 15-20 years. I think we evolve to just the apps before that and gamepass/ps+ will still be a part of that.
Seems like the demand for xbox's great first party game lineup is there from Playstation users. Just check push square, not a week goes by without a which game is next article. Sea of thieves and grounded both made the top sales and top played charts on ps5 if I'm not mistaken.
@BacklogBrad
Sea of thieves has done ok.
But that’s just one game and a bit different game.
Time will tell with Indy etc.
It’s fun deciding which games to avoid in February, from what I’ve seen so far nearly all of the big tiles are no buys for multiple reasons.
At least KCD2 might be good.
@Bigmanfan Shadows I had originally preordered, but I cancelled my preorder when Yotei was announced… and then the game got delayed! Yotei sort of knocked out all the wind Shadows had for me, but I could be wrong. If it reviews decently and the year is otherwise quiet, I could be interested.
I’m hoping next year is the year I make the most out of Gamepass, as I plan on reducing my gaming spend next year someway somehow.
I seen a post on X from the art director of Avowed admitting they have added pro nouns and other nonsense into the game just to make people mad. Not a great look for the game if you ask me when developers lash out, insult and make their goal to make people mad with their game.
Could have just stayed silent and not antagonize the crowd that has issues with this stuff, I don't. But how this self described "art daddie" has handled the situation puts me off of the game when it sounds like someone's personal agenda is being pushed with the sole intent of antagonizing people.
Dont worry it will launch buggy and bbroken anyways, so no need to rush in getting it.
After that rant from one of there devs today. I won't be buying this one. These devs need to stop hating gamers.
My Game Pass sub has expired and Avowed is not going to tempt me to resub, unfortunately.
The lack of 60fps was enough for me to lose interest. Then a developer purposely wanting to annoy fans for his political agenda.
Yeah, I’m not giving my money to that dev. Do better, Microsoft.
Pronouns in the game? CHECK!
Studio head confirms game is ultra WOKE? CHECK!
I mean seriously, can we just get back to making games fun and stop the virtue signaling? I refuse to support the deluded game developers of the world who are catering to the less than 1% of people and hating on anyone who doesn't fall in line.
@Wisegamer I know. It’s so pathetic.
And the crazy thing is, one or two bad apples like that spoil the entire thing.
He’s placing his desires and politics over the team. I’m sure not everyone on the dev team shares his political views, but he’s allowed to ruin it for everyone else.
Companies need to start sacking these people.
As long as the game hasn't gone gold, Obsidian and MS should learn from the DA Veilguard fiasco and omit the woke mind virus content from Avowed. Hell, man, they need to bring back Chris Avellone to balance the culture of the studio.
