It's been a weird Xbox journey for Black Myth: Wukong so far. The game was originally expected to launch on Microsoft's consoles alongside the PS5 release, but then was suddenly delayed back in June for Xbox specifically.
Why? Well, the developer advised that it was for "quality standards" reasons, but rumours suggested that it might have been related to PS5 exclusivity. In any case, Xbox boss Phil Spencer couldn't be drawn into commenting on the game in an interview with Game File this week, simply stating that he "couldn't announce" any plans. Here's the exchange:
Game File: Do you know if you're getting Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox at some point?
Spencer: I do know.
Game File: Are you getting it?
Spencer [laughing]: I can’t announce that.
Before anyone goes worrying that Black Myth: Wukong may never end up on Xbox, it should be pointed out that the game was rated for Xbox Series X|S by the ERSB recently, suggesting an announcement could be on the horizon.
So, when Phil says he "can't announce that", he simply might be referring to an upcoming announcement at The Game Awards, for example... at least, that's what we're hoping for. It's about time we saw this great game on Xbox consoles!
Do you think we'll get Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox before the end of 2024? Tell us in the comments.

Game Pass drop incoming? Xbox’s attempt to conquer China. Best way to increase subs is to try a new country.
It was rated recently and apparently there is no exclusivity deal with PS, so I would expect an announcement pretty soon
All this fuss about a game that is not all that anyway.
Why don’t just Xbox studios get on focusing on some amazing big top quality AAA games like they used to do years ago.
See they have the tools do what they want, but alas have not a ducking clue how do it.
Phil is so full of 💩 nowadays!
@OldGamer999 I have such a love-hate relationship with this game.
At times it feels really epic and special, but then the time in between those special moments isn’t nearly as satisfying and I just lose interest and move on to something else for a while.
I am glad it was a freebie with the Nvidia card that came in my prebuilt gaming PC.
I loved Black Myth Wukong. Currently my game of the year, just ahead of Silent Hill 2, Batman Arkham Shadow, Sonar Shock, and Animal Well. Maybe Indiana Jones will disrupt that though.
So now they're confirming their PlayStation exclusivity right?... after they blatantly made up excuses against the Series S as their reason for the "delay"
Bunch of scumbags.
Definitely $ony bought time exclusive
@Major_Player The wording of your comment is confusing. Who is the “they’re” and “their” in “So now they’re confirming their PlayStation exclusivity right?”
Game File is quoting Phil Spencer, and there is no confirmation of anything in the above article. If Phil speaking on behalf of Xbox is the “they’re” and “their” in your post, he neither confirmed nor denied anything. If Game File is who you’re implicating with “they’re” and “their”, Game File has nothing to with BMW. Did you confuse them with Game Science…?
Sony paid them
All this confirms is Phil can't say anything, which means its far more likely an announcement is due at the game awards or similar. Its a standard press response to say nothing in any media industry, even when its clear something is happening. You always wait for the official announcement and act coy about the whole thing.
@Ricky-Spanish he's an arrogant American the blokes so full of crap I'm surprised his eyes havnt turned brown
@Nicstockes It's becoming increasingly unlikely that the deal (if any) actually occured. Game runs poorly on base PS5 (which is still more advanced than Series S), so it's not a stretch to assume performance is an issue. Game File have always asserted that there was no deal and there was genuine issues with the port, Sony have never claimed exclusivity (and anyone involved in the gaming community knows that PS-exclusive content gets shoved in faces extremely), and the only sources of a exclusivity contract are Microsoft (who of course are never going to admit their consoles are at fault) and Paul Tassi (who literally walked back his comments a week later, saying he exaggerated what he was told, which conveniently was near word-for-word what Microsoft were saying).
@Ilyn Would be quite disappointing if this ends up being the case; 2 years in a row that the big Xbox Game Awards announcement would be a port of one of the nominees, that was available on all other major platforms, and launched in an effective exclusivity on another console because of issues with development of the Xbox port.
@DarkTron
1.$ony never claimed anything include FF7R exclusive too.
2.Remember that Italian soul_like game enotria? That dev said will delayed indefinitely on Xbox BCZ of XSS. After MS intervention it coming to Xbox ASAP.(But still not, whatever).
So what gonna to say is if it's the XSS issue, Ms will give help ASAP, consider it's a blockbuster-game. But BWK's dev never said it's xss issue. And Phil will not say he can't annouce it.
3. All is we guess, maybe U R right though.
Even DF's john think it's not deal and it's XSS issue, but another 2 DF guys think it's not XSS issue.
@Nicstockes thing that gets me if it wasn’t a deal…
Developers openly stated it was an issue with optimisation or whatever it was - if this was infact a lie and they had signed a deal - then why would MS not refute the fact it is their hardware? And then allow the game on the console.
It’s just really weird.
Weird question, we all know, the devs already said it's coming to Xbox.
Because then you would have to talk about series s, eh slimy Phil?
