Stalker 2 is one of the most anticipated Xbox console exclusives we've seen in some time, and we've been eagerly awaiting details on how well the game will run on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S when it launches this November.
Well, we've finally got some info on this! In a new interview with Windows Central, developer GSC Game World revealed that 60FPS is the target on Xbox Series X, although it may drop on occasion to around 55FPS or so. Cutscenes may drop further than 55FPS as well, but obviously they "won't impact the player's movement experience". There are hopes to optimise the Series X version further too (either before or after release), which is great to hear!
It's the Series S version that's most interesting though. As things stand, Stalker 2 on Xbox Series S will be a 30FPS experience, but the team also hopes to provide a performance mode at 60FPS, as they think it's possible to achieve:
"In many cases, we have managed to hit 60 FPS, but it's not as consistent as the Series X. But we're looking to get a performance mode for Xbox Series S, to get it to 60 FPS. We think it's possible."
Initially, GSC Game World felt that putting Stalker 2 on Xbox Series S might have been impossible, but after improving their knowledge of how to optimise for it, the process has been smoother than expected. In fact, they now believe that any game could be optimised for Series S - if every developer had enough time and resources to do it.
So, it's good news all around really! Yes, the Series S version might only be 30FPS at launch, but it sounds like a very solid 30FPS - and there's the potential of 60FPS if it can be achieved. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X version should be a great experience from the outset, and it sounds like it'll only get better in time! Is it November 20th yet?
