Woah, this isn't something we expected to see logging on this morning! As part of a recent 343 Industries livestream, the team has revealed that third-person mode is coming to Halo Infinite this November!
Yep, a full three years on from release, third-person gameplay feels like a pretty major feature to be adding to Infinite - especially when we thought those sort of updates were all-but wrapped up nowadays! Anyway, the team has dropped a work-in-progress clip of this in action - we'll throw that down below.
Given the nature of this clip, and 343's history with sticking to multiplayer updates for Halo Infinite, we'd assume that this feature won't transfer over to campaign - which probably makes sense given that you're supposed to be stepping into the shoes of Master Chief for the game's story mode. Either way, it's a very cool addition to the multiplayer suite that we never expected to see!
Back in July, the team dropped its 'Operation Fleetcom' update as it continues to bring new content to Halo Infinite - even if the game doesn't do full-on seasons anymore. Third-person mode for Halo Infinite is set to arrive in November 2024.
Excited to try this out? Will it make you dive back into Halo Infinite? Tell us down below!

A new halo game would be better!
Wonder if it's in preparation for a certain fanbase that said they'd get motion sickness playing Indiana Jones in first person🥴
Time to reinstall.
Can you co-op the campaign yet?
When you think 343 couldn't be more out of touch...
All the odd random updates this game gets and yet they couldn’t do DLC on this one. It sort of felt like it could have been the first genuine live service campaign title, given how it left off, and I was warm to the thought of it, but… alas…
My opinion of Infinite has diminished from its lack of DLC, weirdly enough. Could be the only game I’ve ever felt like that with.
Full remake relaunch with extras for next Xbox if in 2026. Released on launch day of console.
Start of right this time.
This sounds like something I’d try for 5mins for the novelty, then go back to first person and never touch it again.
@somnambulance
I like that they keep updating the game, but I would have loved to see campaign DLCs launch about every one to two years until the campaign was through the full Halo ring. They left the campaign off perfectly to keep adding to it and growing the story on this ring. Totally missed the opportunity.
@Foxx
Yup. Even has co-op achievements.
Could’ve done a spin off in the halo universe using third person with a dark horror tone … sigh if only Phil didn’t worry about indie phone games on console so much
@NeoRatt Exactly. I’ve never played a game that so directly felt like it stopped where it stopped because there would be story-based DLC. It felt like there were gaps in the story too that were filled with supplemental material, so it seemed like such an obvious ploy to expand the amount of Halo people dip into, and DLC would’ve served that very well. The lack of biomes seemed suited for DLC too. Theres so much that feels like it should have been more campaign oriented with Infinite.
Why? Why now? How about something big for the Halo 2 20 year anniversary on November 9th?
That's what it needs to get PlayStation users interested in it... Before they put it on PS5.
343i just loves killing Halo.
Awesome! I will check it out when it releases!
Almost as I remembered it 😜 I've seen to many replays of my matches, and it looks exactly like that.
Could be a nice touch, and now you will finally see all your gears at any time
They should do an update that makes it a good game
Me and my mate were looking to play Halo Infinite online but we couldn’t find a third person. This news is most welcome!
😂
Interesting. I look forward to trying this out but I will probably stick to first person.
I don't know, after three years we used to have a new game, not a mod. I wonder what are these devs doing.
@Fishticon that was actually pretty funny 😄
A list of people that asked for this below
VVVVVVVVVV
Out of all the updates and changes they could do to Infinite… that definitely wasn’t on my bingo card card. Lol.
Would have thought split screen co-op on Series X (which was working) would have been well ahead of this. But 343 gonna 343
@Fishticon I was thinking the same thing! Another PS5 release incoming imo.
Not really getting this. This type of game screams out for 1st person and I can't imagine anyone playing halo 3rd person?
Where's co-op campaign?
This is an example of why you cant trust 343 with Halo imo, working on the things that wont help the title whilst features that should have launched with it day 1 are still not present.
