In case you'd forgotten, October is the month of Dragon Age: The Veilguard! EA and BioWare's game launches for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on October 31st, and therefore the marketing has really ramped up as of late.
This week, EA has been talking about the extensive accessibility options in the game, which includes separate quality and performance modes (although we don't have specific details on these yet), along with six different difficulty levels to choose from - five of which are preset, and one which can be customised to your liking.
Here's the list of all six difficulty levels, along with more information on each:
Storyteller
Here for the story.
Keeper
A balanced combat experience that emphasizes party composition and equipment choices over reaction times.
Adventurer
A balanced experience that places equal emphasis on combat, party composition, and equipment choices.
Underdog
Here to be pushed to the limit, requiring strategic planning and tactical decisions.
Nightmare
Overwhelming battles that give no quarter. Requires a mastery of combat, equipment, skills, and game mechanics to survive. Selecting Nightmare cannot be undone without starting a new playthrough.
Unbound
Customize all settings. Settings impact numerous aspects of gameplay. If this is your first time, consider a curated preset instead.
As mentioned, there's a lot more you can do to tweak Dragon Age: The Veilguard's experience to your liking - such as hiding or turning off elements of the UI, adjusting depth of field and motion blur, changing how violently the camera shakes, and so much more. EA has listed the full details about this on the official Dragon Age website.
It's hard to tell what kind of review scores we'll be looking at when Dragon Age: The Veilguard arrives in a few weeks' time, but based on what we saw back in the summer, it appears to be shaping up as a "confident" return for BioWare.

I have all the games through Games With Gold. I really need to get around to them. I almost finished Origins at launch, but must've gotten distracted back in the day. Maybe after then I'll give this one a go. It'll probably be on EA'S subscription service in a year too.
Really looking forward to this, @FraserG. I've even ordered the Collector's Sword for the game, despite the game not being included!
Anyway, to my question, do we know whether there are any achievements linked to the difficulties? Thanks...
@Fiendish-Beaver Not sure on that yet! We'll hopefully find out more over the next couple of weeks...
Not once have I been able to advance beyond easy mode on Dragon Age without getting annihilated (same for BG3 as it goes)....hopefully this time everything will turn out tickety boo 🙂
I started to play DA: Origins just before the new Diablo 4 dlc launch.
Playing Origins did make me check out Veilguard a bit more closely than i had previously. I have to say i am liking what i am seeing though not enough for a day one purchase (don't have time to play it even if i did.)
I am fairly certain this will be a future sale purchase for me assuming no major unresolved tech or performance issues at time of purchase.
It’ll be out on my payday, which is good as I’ll also be buying the new Life is Strange game which is released that week.
Day one.
This is looking like my Game of the Year favourite contender.
@ironcrow86 BG3 gets easier once you have levelled up a bit - once you reach level 4 you can pick a ‘feat’ that gives you unbeatable initiative. If you pick it for all your party, you get first go in any fight and usually take out a couple of enemies before they can even move.
Is there going to be a playable demo?
Better not gatekeep achievements behind some arbitrary difficulty setting. That’s like only building a set of stairs leading to the achievement and saying ‘F anyone who uses a ramp’
Urgh their characters look so ugly. And someone worked out that they all have disproportionately large heads, genuinely
@Lrapsody I agree. I personally am trying to be interested in the game, but I can’t must up a feeling of liking the game at all from what I’ve seen, and it’s largely from thinking the character models look off to me, as well as just the overall style too. It just hits me with a very “looks, kids, it’s today’s gaming” type of template and I don’t enjoy it. I’ve liked the older games just fine, but I just don’t like what I’m seeing and probably won’t buy this game because of that.
I'm looking forward to the game, day 1. Nice to see the comments section not a complete hate train like PS.
