The release of EA's Dragon Age: The Veilguard is fast approaching, and we're starting to learn more and more about the title as we approach launch here. We always like to see how the Xbox versions are shaping up if we can, and a brief social media exchange has hinted at some positive signs for Xbox Series S.
Developer BioWare's Michael Gamble has confirmed on Twitter that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have a performance mode on Xbox Series S. We don't know the specific details of this mode, but we're assuming that Microsoft's all-digital console is aiming for up to 60FPS with this option enabled.
In a separate BioWare blog post, the team does confirm that the console versions of The Veilguard have two modes "targeting 30 and 60 FPS", including Xbox Series X|S. The Series S may have to drop that resolution down a bit, but it sounds like the console is aiming to hit 60FPS in its performance mode.
If this is another little push towards potentially giving this game a go, it might be worth pre-loading the title. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now available to install on your console via the Xbox app - and it's a chunky old download on Xbox Series X|S.
Glad to hear about these 60FPS targets in performance mode? Tell us down below.

Hopefully the resolution doesn't take too bad a hit for 60fps sure performance mode on elden ring works great on series s hopefully it hits those standards
Gotta hand it to Bioware and EA they are doing almost everything right with this release. Lots of consumer friendly decisions. It feels like they think they have something special on their hands and are desperately trying not to mess it up.
@themightyant Sadly even if it is something special I have a feeling a lot of folks have already decided its poop without playing it or even seeing a review & will be very vocal with their opinion at launch.
Me I am willing to give it a shot though not at launch as i simply dont have the time.
@RiverGenie yes there is a toxic set of people online that have decided on certain reasons to be loud about this game. I don't care about them, this game looks great and I can't wait for it.
@RiverGenie @JoyfulFire Sadly I think so too. This is becoming more and more common in gaming. Spiteful groups deciding, before even playing a game, that it is trash, and then dog piling on it. I'm SURE we will have a vocal group of toxic chodes like this on this game and others. It's so tiresome and just sucks the joy out of the hobby.
Traditional comment about "I have a 1440 screen, can I drop the resolution and keeps some graphical nice ness at 60fps" aside
@JoyfulFire @themightyant There is a weird effort to paint this game as terrible. I've come across people trying to turn the fact it doesn't have spiders into some sort of outrage. I'm a huge fan of the series and I probably wouldn't have noticed there weren't any spider enemies until someone pointed it out.
Looking forward to this game, even some of the particularly skeptical reviewers like Luke Stephens seems to be positive about it. I think it will do reasonably well outside the echo chamber.
Happy to see this likely has a 60fps mode on series s. I got a series x now but glad got those still ok the x.
Pre-ordered and I'm so f**king ready! This will be the game that will put Bioware again on everyone's radar, mark my words. I've given up on seeing proper AAA RPGs reaching 60 fps on the S, but here's proof that it's possible with a bit of optimization.
Will it support smart delivery? Thus far I’m only seeing the 92g size for all platforms.
@JoyfulFire it's almost like people want to play a dark fantasy game and not Fortnite 🫨
I don't know how you guys can call people "toxic" and "chodes" when you're glazing a game which has nothing good from the previous games, it's a linear hack and slash where you can only carry over three decisions from inquisition, the qunari look stupid like some kind of sims 4 occult sim compared to 2 where they were hulking and intimidating, spiders removed and the character creator is an absolute joke it's a good freak machine like oblivions character creator but that's it.
ME-A and anthem were both failures, fhis game has all the tell tale signs of being a failure too but you guys can stay coping just like the saints row fake fans did.
Prepare for 360p, upscaled to 1080p then
@Deityjester "It has nothing the previous games had"..... What you mean Other than deep storytelling, epic cinematics, interesting companions, choices and consequences that affect how your story will play out, big action set pieces, growth and skill customization, exploration and more detailed character creation...... "Its Linear"..... no... the main missions are linear.... ya know, EXACTLY the same as Dragon Age Origins! Just because it's not fully open world doesn't mean it's linear, it still has exploration. Inquisition was the ONLY game in the series that had an open world aesthetic, and most people agreed it was unnecessary and felt pointless, a little bit like the points you're making. "The Character Creator is an absolute joke".... What!? 😂😂😂 Let me guess because it gives you the OPTION for pronouns?? Get back in your cave mate
