Update: Well, the patch has already arrived! We've covered more details about it elsewhere on Pure Xbox:
Original story: It feels like Star Wars Outlaws has had a bit of a mixed launch - some people love it, including us here at Pure Xbox where we gave it a "Great" 8/10 in our review, but others aren't having as much of a good time so far.
One of the things that keeps getting brought up is how punishing the early stealth sections can be, including situations where just getting spotted once is enough to force you back to the start of the section. If you're in this boat right now, the good news is that the team is looking at tweaking the difficulty in the game's next patch.
Here's what creative director Julian Gerighty had to say to GamesRadar recently:
"So especially, I mean, you're probably thinking of one of the early missions in Mirogana, which is incredibly punishing. And for me, that is a mistake, and this is something that we're going to work on improving."
"...we just don't want it to feel unfair. And today, I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, this wasn't our intention."
Despite this, Gerighty mentioned that the intent isn't to remove the insta-fail state completely from stealth in Star Wars Outlaws, but he believes there are ways to try and make the experience more "enjoyable" and "understandable".
Echoing his thoughts, director Mathias Karlson advised that the idea is to create tension but also let players feel like they have time to do something if they get into a difficult situation.
So, if the stealth in Star Wars Outlaws is bothering you, you'll be glad to hear that a patch for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is incoming in about a week's time. It'll be interesting to see just how much easier things get at that point!
What do you think of the stealth in Star Wars Outlaws? Let us know down in the comments below.

It indeed was one of the first stealth sections that was the hardest and the most frustrating one that almost put me off. But … From that one it got only better and learning the way to play through them makes them a breeze further in the game.
I do have some other small things that come to mind. Textures fail to load after a longer play session which make it look like an early 360 game. Exhausts of the trailblazer become square , you could see through parts of the spaceship and the whole world just becomes a bland dull environment. A restart of the game fixes this quick and painless. Another thing is the way the missions are presented in the menu. They go from expert intel to an intel string to another part. It all is very illogical even though at first it looks very structured. Maybe it is just me but more than once I was looking for the follow up ( side , expert , intel )mission that was replaced.
Other than that , very good game , great atmosphere , fun story and more than enough “Star Wars” for the fan.
Too late, damage is done.
Maybe just maybe when all the patches are done and things fixed and improved and the game costs £20 I might give it ago.
Thing is once reviewed as a bad game it is always perceived as a bad game and the damage is done.
The game won’t have legs so it’s best sales are past it now until patches and a very big discount are applied.
This game will so obviously be the Black Friday £25 game this year.
Surprise, surprise!... this gaming generation spitting out their dummies because a game got difficult 😏 two words... "Manic Miner" 😁
The stealth put me off buying it till a sale.
They just aren’t fun segments of a game( just like the Mary Jane in Spider-Man too).
If you use all the tools (and spend time unlocking those tools), the stealth becomes quite easy.
It is a game about thinking fast on your feet and I think it does a great job at it. I had one section when I thought it felt unfair I was spotted very quickly, but when I stood where I got spotted from, it was very obvious where I was "hiding" 😂
@PsBoxSwitchOwner the "stealth" section in the Spider-Man games were terrible. This game's stealth is much better imo
I never had any issues with the stealth sections, I actually really enjoyed the stealth (especially after getting some of the better gear and abilites). However, I can understand people's frustration with them as maybe they were prominent and punishing than people originally anticipated.
There's only like one hard mission (not even that hard).
Man, gamers nowadays...
Its not that stealth is hard it is the instant fail mechanic that removes options on how you play an open world game (open world is how they describe it) that makes it bad.
They have a wealth of knowledge to draw on as to what makes a good stealth mechanic even just within ubisoft & they came up with this. Yikes!
Then you look at the Star Wars universe source material and the most famous smuggler / thief, Han Solo. Sure he could sneak into places but he will more often than not blast his way out & deals with the consequences. While the main character is no Han Solo not to have the option to shoot you way out of a bad situation just feels wrong to me.
Even if the consequence was a massive drop in reputation or a galaxy wide bounty ( or another death mark) that would be much better that instant fail imo.
All that is not taking into account the wonky AI of the npcs. You can literally jump up & down in a bush with an enemy NPC next to you and they are like "where did she go".
It's a step backwards in every sense.
Maybe it's all the Splinter Cell I played back in the day but I thought the stealth in Outlaws was easy to get through
Just another example of why not to purchase games on day 1 anymore. Why people still pre-order I’ll never know. 🤷🏼♂️ You’re not missing out on anything, just wait a few months and get a finished product for a cheaper price. Company’s seem incapable of producing finished games anymore. There’s always a patch or update required.🤦🏻♂️
@OldGamer999 I agree.
Going forward I think all game reviews should be done on day 1 & then again 6 - 12 months later when all patches & updates are complete. Cyberpunk is a classic example of this.
Great game, absolutely loving it at the moment. The one thing i wish you could do though is to be able to move the bodies when you knock them out.
It's a joke , right ?... right ???
"unfair stealth "....
If you played the game you know how stupid enemy AI is... Really , shame on you, Ubisoft.
You don't believe me ? Good check the video below... 2 games "made by Ubisoft", roughly 10 years between the 2 games... Abysmal ....

I don’t mind ‘fail if you are caught’ missions, in fact I quite like them. I haven’t found the stealth missions I’ve played so far in Outlaws too challenging. It’s satisfying to get in and out of somewhere without firing a shot or being seen at all.
So it's instead of gamers getting good like we used to have to do in hard sections of games developers now just make it easier??? Absolutely pathetic. If you can't do it, don't play, it really is simple.
@FuzzieGinge88 You sound like a fun person.
Beat the game a couple days ago, and really enjoyed it! I never really had much trouble with any of the stealth missions, but they definitely aren't perfect
People that played to game “the game is good and I’ve enjoyed”
People that haven’t played the game “it’s junk and too late to fix it”
Lol
I’ve done a lot of the (stealth) missions in Mirogana, so have probably done the one mentioned. However, I was doing another stealth quest on Akiva where you have to break into an Imperial base (the droidsmith quest) and just kept getting caught 😡 I ended up following a YouTube video on exactly what path to take 😂
@RetroMan71 Yeah, there is many isnt there ? ha ha
