Here at Pure Xbox HQ, we really enjoyed our playtime with Star Wars Outlaws while working away on a review; ultimately scoring Ubisoft's open-world adventure an 8/10 late last month. However, the game's average score was a bit lower on the review scale, and that's proved to be "a little disappointing" for developer Massive Entertainment.
In a new interview with GamesRadar, Massive's Julian Gerighty says the team "literally reached for the stars" with Outlaws, despite the game's mixed reception so far. The creative director takes heart from the game connecting with the public, even if not all of the gaming press were totally on board.
"I'm a little disappointed with the Metacritic; Of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did,
Honestly, it's brought me so much joy to see the incredible images being captured and shared. And I think that's proof positive that this is an experience like no other Star Wars experience before, that lets you step into this world and enjoy some virtual tourism."
Gerighty also commits to a long-term future for Star Wars Outlaws in this chat. While the developer goes on to joke about "never stopping improving it" (because one day support will end of course), he does say that "today my mind is not on stopping" - with Massive seemingly having big plans for the future of Outlaws.
Anyway, feel free to check out our full Star Wars Outlaws review down below if you'd like to know our thoughts on the game, and we'll also include a look at Digital Foundry's more technical review of the Xbox version of the title underneath.

Improvements would be welcome but I'm having a blast with the game so far.
The game could be good if there was some variety. Not every mission needs to be stealth. Also, the detect me through walls all the time.
Finished and really enjoyed. But of course it's Ubisoft so it gets a lot of hate.
Ubisoft stock has tanked over the past couple of years and that has gone hand in hand with a general lack of quality & polish to their games.
While Outlaws isn't the sole cause its the latest of their games showing the general decline of the company.
A bit sad really and I do hope they pull out of this death spiral. Selfishly because I want The Division 3 to see the light of day but I am not holding my breath on that.
Yeah, there are bugs, but this is the best and most "Star Wars" game I've ever played. I'm just under 20 hours in and loving every minute of it.
@RiverGenie they released prince of persia though this year which is an absolute gem of a game!
Cheers! they have space for improvement. It's a good game, it just needs more polish.
@BowsersBuddy
I did a little side content. Normally I do all the side content first, but there were a few times I didn't found the intel and kinda just gave up.
30 hours more or less.
I really enjoyed it but (unpopular opinion) I miss the markers telling me exactly where to go, I'm just terrible at finding things on my own.
@BowsersBuddy
Yeah, in AC they usually let you turn off most things to make it more immersive so I was hoping to have the option.
Still, it's a personal thing and the game it's still really fun.
I think it's a Massive Entertainment thing because I'm trying the Avatar game (also made by them), and it works kinda like that.
I really adore this game. I think a lot of the reaction is from people expecting it to allow versatility in gameplay approach, but it really is primarily a stealth game at its core.
Makes a mediocre game at best, and is surprised by the lukewarm reception?
Just like everyone was a little disappointed when it was announced ubisoft was making a star wars game in the first play it looks good from what I've seen but will wait for a sale to get it to much to play with gamepass at the moment!
If they just fixed the checkpoint system/frequency it would improve the game massively, for me.
Hello there fellow gamers;
It seems I´m one of the few that´s really enjoying the game.
It is a Star Wars game that feels like Star Wars, it has the vibe, the ambiance, the style and many references to the source material, has it should any adaptation have.
I do think the highlights for me are the actual Space exploration and Space combat as well as the different factions that may get in favour with some and not so good with others.
Does it have it´s flaws? Oh yes, it does have indeed.
Gunplay could be a litle better as well as the games stealth.
But overall, it´s a pretty good game and more importantly, I´m having a lot of fun with it. Isn´t that what matters the most?
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
@BowsersBuddy Hello there friend;
It is quite fun and the feeling of being inside the Star Wars Universe is definitely there.
Also, I agree with you about the side missions. They do feel more part of kay´s progression and evolution as a Space Scondrel.
I might also becoming slighty addicted to Kessel Sabacc 😜
Cheers and have a good one
"over time"
Ubisoft, needs to revisit their plans at how they approach their games and fans. Deliver a good finished product. Not "over time" even tho i love this game (with bugs and all) i understand the frustrations.
