Here at Pure Xbox HQ, we really enjoyed our playtime with Star Wars Outlaws while working away on a review; ultimately scoring Ubisoft's open-world adventure an 8/10 late last month. However, the game's average score was a bit lower on the review scale, and that's proved to be "a little disappointing" for developer Massive Entertainment.
In a new interview with GamesRadar, Massive's Julian Gerighty says the team "literally reached for the stars" with Outlaws, despite the game's mixed reception so far. The creative director takes heart from the game connecting with the public, even if not all of the gaming press were totally on board.
"I'm a little disappointed with the Metacritic; Of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did,
Honestly, it's brought me so much joy to see the incredible images being captured and shared. And I think that's proof positive that this is an experience like no other Star Wars experience before, that lets you step into this world and enjoy some virtual tourism."
Gerighty also commits to a long-term future for Star Wars Outlaws in this chat. While the developer goes on to joke about "never stopping improving it" (because one day support will end of course), he does say that "today my mind is not on stopping" - with Massive seemingly having big plans for the future of Outlaws.
