It's been exactly a week now since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor made its unlikely debut on Xbox One (and PS4), and as expected, the tech experts over at Digital Foundry have been analysing the last-gen version over the past few days.
Initial impressions seemed to be pretty good for the Xbox One release, and while that kind of remains the case following this analysis, Digital Foundry has some concerns about the Xbox One S version specifically. They say it's the worst way to play the game on console (no surprises there), and although the frame rate is fairly good, it struggles in cutscenes.
"The turnout is similarly poor to the base PS4 in frame rate here. The drop to 576p only accounts for Xbox One's weaker GPU to an extent. You'll get a 30FPS reading, blighted by cases of tearing and frame pacing issues, while in the extreme cases, there are large bouts of hitching as broad city views are rendered in."
"Where Xbox One truly struggles though is again in cutscenes, with the reading plummeting down to the 20FPS line and even beneath that at points... There's no skirting around the fact that Xbox One is the worst way to play the game."
While that might sound terrible, DF does mention that the playable parts of Jedi: Survivor hold to 30FPS "better than you might expect", and the Xbox One X version naturally provides a better-looking and smoother experience.
Overall, this last-gen rendition of the game is said to deliver "mixed" results, with the downside being the base Xbox One and PS4 versions, and the upside being the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro versions. The latter still aren't said to be 100% ideal, but they're described as a "passable way to play for now" until you buy a more powerful console.
"On the one hand, the base PS4 and Xbox One are difficult to recommend given the visual cutbacks and the frame rate instability during cutscenes. On the other, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X push a much more convincing take on the experience against all odds, due to the tighter 30FPS lock and a crisper image."

If you have a last gen console and you buy Jedi Survivor, you probably don't care about this stuff.
@Lup Definitely & you would just accept and appreciate what you have because within reason last gen is still good enough.
Having gone from the Xbox 360, had a big gap in playing games and now playing again on series X, I have to say the last gen version looks damm good considering.
I have a bad feeling about this…
The One X really was a lovely system
It's probably the series s like always ha!
@Ricky-Spanish Technically, they are saying the One S has performance issues..
@Elbow I know was just making a funny because the series s is blamed for everything not performing well nowadays 🧑🌾
@johnK even good ports on 360 amazed me the version of rise of the tomb raider on 360 is impressive to me
@Medic_alert
Agreed, beautiful design. Just looked classy somehow.
Why say the xbox one "S" version and not the xbox one version? Hmmm
@GeorgeKal Through the statements in the article they refer to both, so I think they refer to base model and One S as the same. I doubt they did much tweaking between the two, anyways.
@Elbow they only want to confuse people thinking it's series s again... I never saw anyone speaking about one s version before only xbox one version and one x.
