Yesterday, Xbox detailed its own livestream plans for Gamescom 2024 - featuring three days of broadcasting to showcase some of the team's biggest upcoming launches. However, for us at home the whole event really kicks off with Opening Night Live — hosted by Geoff Keighley — and Xbox reckons its fans should probably tune in to that show too.
Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg has taken to social media to break down the team's Gamescom announcement this week. Not only does he talk about what his team will bring to its show floor booth, but Greenberg also says that he'd "recommend you check out" the Opening Night Live show as well.
Of course, this could just be a polite reminder to support everything going on at GC this year - regardless of whether it's hosted by Xbox or not. However, we're secretly hoping that the team brings something big to show off during Geoff Keighley's event on August 20th. There's certainly a chance of that happening anyway, given that The Game Awards host likes to cram as much as possible into his showcases.
Xbox has a couple of hands-off presentations planned at the event too — for Starfield: Shattered Space and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle — so, those could make for good ONL candidates! Anyway, we're just speculating now, so we'll drop the Opening Night Live event times down below - where we'll find out what's in store from Xbox and the rest of the industry.

a glimpse on a new hardware?
Considering Activision always gave Geoff a long gameplay demo of CoD's campaign for Opening Night Live, I figure the tease is about Black Ops 6's campaign.
The only thing i better be seeing are some ***** release dates for Indiana Jones and Avowed.
Well, maybe his message is in the game names he starts with:
•Age of Mythology: Retold
•Ara: History Untold
Untold. Retold.
I think we will be Retold a few things about games we already know about and new games will be left Untold.
I’d like to be surprised though.
The same guy that over hyped Halo Infinite right before they delayed it, nah, I'll keep my expectations in check. Let's see the goods before hyping it up.

I'll catch trailers after, I can't stand the dorito pope.
It's probably not worth suffering through another keighley presentation but few things are.
@Pigrotto why do we need new hardware we need games on the series x /s not new hardware phil spencer really doesn't understand what gamers want at all
Forza Motorsport 2.0 release to actually make it a complete and finished product?
It could be something specifically Microsoft related - some new teaser for a game or some hardware (maybe a handheld Xbox or PC), maybe even a drop of some Activision games into Game Pass for example. However it could also be something from their '3rd Party' partnerships that will also release on PS, but MS may have some deal in place. It wouldn't be the first time they've had a 'trailer' for the next Assassin's Creed trailer on Opening night with showing of Game-play scheduled for the Xbox show...
They could have some 'surprise' announcement - like FH6 as its been nearly 3yrs - FH5 was 3yrs after FH4, which was 2yrs after FH3 for example.
I think the mistake you are making, @Dan1283, is in thinking that Phil Spencer is the one calling the shots these days. I'd say that Spencer full well knows what we gamers want, however that does not align with what Microsoft want. Nadella is the one to say what is going to be happening now, not Spencer, and Microsoft's goals are all about a return on their investment. We gamers are truly an afterthought now. I think if Spencer had his way, things would be very, very different...
@BAMozzy try to use common sense for a moment. Why would they announce the sequel to their most beloved and arguably most successful game this generation at a 3rd party event? If there is talk about Avowed getting delayed cause there is too many games in game pass this fall why would they announce another one?? Playground is probably all hands on Fable getting it into a super polished state. Come on now don’t say dumb things.
@Fiendish-Beaver that's the thing then Microsoft will do anything for investments even if it alenates there core gamers hopefully things improve this year or early next but I except the exclusives being released this year avowed and indy to be delayed if the rumours are true that is?
@Fiendish-Beaver @Mustoe Yep. Matrick's corporate Windows Xbox one was a joke I laughed at and bought a PS4. Phil came in and turned Xbox around, and the semi-independent Xbox under him was the platform we all loved. The underdog made for us. Ever since the new year it's been crystal clear he's no longer running the show and we're back to the corporate Xbox, and the corporate Xbox just sucks. Always has. I always thought the day Phil leaves is the day the Xbox ride ends and suits take over, but I must say it happened sooner and more spectacularly than I'd imagined, with Phil being silenced but present instead of leaving. (yet.)
I don't think it is as simply as that, @Mustoe. I think that Spencer likely took the ABK acquisition buyout proposal to Microsoft with a clear view of how things would then proceed, but that Nadella then took the reigns. It is not so much as Spencer did not work out, but that he was pushed out of the picture. Spencer's vision has not been realised in the way he intended, and we gamers are feeling the hurt as a consequence. Things could have been great, but now they are simply uncertain. None of us quite know what's going on, and that is terrible for the Xbox brand. Under Spencer, I think we would have felt a lot more confident in Xbox...
Whatever it is I can't imagine the surprise announcement will be anything great probably more dates for Activision games dropping on gamepass nothing special
Wonder if it's limited edition console (not seen many those for sale this gen)? Or if offering sneak peak on the supposed portable Xbox? Some people curious if it's for real.
@Fishmasterflex96 1st point - Why to announce at a 3rd Party Event?
The answer to that should be obvious - the same reason they revealed the Series X or HB2 at a 3rd Party event is to have ALL Gamers eyes on their 'Product' as a 'teaser' to entice them to watch the Xbox event. FH5, whether it was 'Successful' or not, has traditionally been revealed a few 'months' before release. If they tease some new Hardware too, those can entice some viewers to watch the 'Xbox' show to find out more.
If Avowed is delayed due to Congestion, that doesn't mean a completely different game in a completely different Genre may not replace it. It could be delayed because they have too many 'RPG' like games around (not just Xbox with their Starfield Expansion) and may feel 'Avowed' stands a better chance if its delayed into early 2025. Forza Horizon can release in that 'window' because its the 'normal' Forza Window for Forza Fans, its an established IP too so has a Fanbase who will play and as you said, has a track record of success in that window so may make more sense to push an unknown IP and one that many may feel they don't have time for (in a busy Window) until a quieter time.
As for Playground, they opened a second Studio specifically to work on an Open World game. Its not '1' studio with everyone working on Fable until they return to Forza. They have 3 Studios now and have this to say:-
In our original HQ, we continue to support and grow the huge, vibrant Horizon community. In our new studios on the other side of town, we are excited to be developing Fable
So I don't think that was particularly dumb to say, certainly not as dumb or as ill conceived as the response was. It makes sense to 'tease' something in the Opening night show when Gamers regardless of Platform will tune in to try and get them to tune into the Xbox show which is mostly only the Xbox gamers that will watch. They want to get 'ALL' gamers to watch to try and get them into 'Xbox'.
It works - You put the cinematic trailer for a Game out on 'opening' night saying that Game-play and more details will be given at the Xbox Show, those interested will tune into the Xbox show - even Playstation gamers will tune in because they want to see Game-play. They want them to sit through the show, see what 'few' games they will get on PS too but more importantly, the games they get on 'Xbox' and/or Game Pass to get them into 'Xbox' too even if they don't buy/own even the cheap Series S...
Can’t wait to see those exciting and special delays.
I don’t get Xbox, they seem to great shows and a great show case and promote at just these events which is good. But will cost lots of money.
But don’t follow the rules of general public PR and advertising that go towards making Sony and Nintendo so successful that don’t even go to these shows most of the time.
It’s one thing doing geeky shows etc and the followers will watch like me. But we are only but a few and the mass market is the general public.
The kids, the casuals, the parents that don’t watch these shows and don’t even know they exist.
They want the world to play Xbox everywhere and by everyone. But you have to reach out to everyone to do so and let them know your product exists.
I genuinely hate Aaron Greenberg, He always overhype everyone for games , and down the road we all get disappointed because we were overhype, Also he loves console wars, he starts ***** in twitter and people start doing console wars under his comments,
As much as I love Phil spencer, F*ck this guy...
Removed - inappropriate language
This guy is 100% smoke. Boring!
Maybe the release dates for the new consoles they mentioned in the showcase.
We don’t have any dates for any of those yet.
I don't think I'll ever have faith in anything Aaron Greenberg hypes up. Fool me once, fool me twice and so on...
I doesn't matter if you wait to see it live. About a hour or two after the presentation is finished you can see everything YouTube, and you can skim through the presentation and only focus on what you're interested in.
