There's been so much attention around Fallout 4's big PC mod known as Fallout: London recently, but sadly there's no sign of an Xbox (or any other console) release for it right now - despite the developers showing an interest.
We're seeing a similar situation with Skyblivion as well, which just revealed its first look at gameplay this week ahead of a release in 2025. You can watch it up above, but don't get too excited if you don't own a good enough PC.
This remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim might look incredible, but apparently it's simply too big to fit on consoles. Another problem is the lack of support for the Skyrim Script Extender.
Will Skyblivion be released on consoles?
"No. We can’t make it fit on consoles due to the overall size. Also there’s no SKSE on consoles, which we need in order to bring everyone the best possible experience."
Want more bad news? We don't think Skyblivion will work with the PC Game Pass version of Skyrim when it launches in 2025, as that version is limited in terms of the mods it can support. Things could obviously change in a year though.
So, why are we bringing it to your attention in the first place? Well, we just think it looks awesome, and this is another very significant mod coming to an Xbox first-party game... albeit on PC. The gameplay footage above is fast approaching 1 million views, and Bethesda has been promoting Skyblivion's progress on social media this week.
Here's hoping that with so many great mods finding their way to Xbox's PC versions these days, the next Xbox consoles will be more capable of supporting them. Plenty are already supported on Xbox, of course (we're loving Starfield's Creations suite), but it's always sad to see situations like this where a console release appears impossible.
"Skyblivion is a fan made recreation of the 4th Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, in the Skyrim engine. Our goal is to bring the Elder Scrolls community a free remaster of Oblivion that includes all weapons, armors, quests, locations and NPC’s. All of this free of charge."

Stop showing us awesome mods we cannot play!!! Lol
Why do you only post news about things that don't release on Xbox? And then news of games that do, you just ignore them.
A Broken Sword remaster has been announced for Xbox Series in September, and I had to read it on Nintendo's portal.
If you guys want criticism for improvement, I think you should be less biased with the news you post, it's just my opinion.
Been waiting on this one for years, can’t wait to play! Should tide me over until TES6 comes out.
It does seem weird to me, in light of the whole "creation club" thing there does seem to be a "path" to these getting standalone, official console releases and Xbox is just sitting on it's thumbs. Granted with Fallout London there's going to be some concern about people seeing it as a "proper Fallout game" and expect it to be canon but this is different. It's a remake of an existing game and whatever it'll cost MS to get it done is going to be significantly less than doing it themselves and keeps the Bethesda team working on their games.
And it would keep the IPs going whilst Bethesda takes it's time with ES6.
Well then maybe not write about it on an Xbox website.
@Pabpictu We have to pick and choose the news we post based on the engagement it will attract. Sadly, as much as we'd love to cover every individual release that gets announced for Xbox, history tells us that Pure Xbox readers don't really respond to that.
That's not to say we don't cover a lot of upcoming Xbox releases though - this week alone we've mentioned a couple of Halloween games, Stalker 2, Splitgate 2, Chernobylite 2, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, The Mortuary Assistant, Replaced, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, The Outer Worlds 2, Arena Breakout: Infinite, Copa City, Two Point Museum, Barkour, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, The Plucky Squire, Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator and Black Myth: Wukong.
We DO try and take a varied approach to our coverage however, and we're also a small team in general, so that means some games and potential news stories unfortunately slip through the net.
I'd say if we're coming across as "biased" with certain titles or types of coverage, it's just because history tells us Pure Xbox members want to read about it. In this case, Fallout: London was a very popular topic on PX, so we're assuming there's interest in Skyblivion as well.
I know Bethesda isn't Rockstar, but, these guys are literally promising to take Bethesda licenced content from a different game and put it in their mod, and I doubt Bethesda (or Amy Hood) are fond of someone distributing free copies of Oblivion with every Skyrim purchase.
If it really happened it would be my dream - especially if it works with Skyrim VR, but, I can not imagine the Bethesda/MS lawyers sleeping on "We're duplicating Oblivion and distributing for free."
@NEStalgia Morrowind VR is a better experience anyway. Especially with better balanced combat so combat feels better when you swing.
@FraserG Thank you for your sincerity. Unfortunately it happens in all the Xbox media I read, and it's sad, but I understand this is a business and you have to look for clicks and comments on the news.
Even so I will always enter news of games like Tales of Xilia or Broken Sword announced for Xbox, even if they don't have so much repercussion, they are the ones that generate excitement in readers like me.
@InterceptorAlpha Oh man, I didn't even know there WAS a Morrowind VR mod!
Does it support the mess of mods to pretty it up, and also the coop mods?
I know Skyrim takes like 100+ mods (and effectively requires a paid Nexus sub just to efficiently download them all) to make it totally pretty plus have adequate VR control/detection, and doesn't support the coop mod at all. If I could get Morrowind (and/or oblivion) with beautifying mods, that would be amazing.
@Pabpictu Yep, understood. FWIW I appreciate the feedback and it'll be taken into account.
This is why I buy such games on PC instead of console these days and specifically Steam as the Xbox PC version of games often miss out on mods, even the recent Doom update has missed out on a new RT mod.
Even Starfield gets updates on Steam first
All that said, thanks for reporting on this as I now have another mod to look forward to
It’s amazes me how this little teams and modders have been doing this for decades with great results.
And also recently some smaller independent studios seem to get some great new game results.
And then a 400 employees plus studios seem to chill around from 5 to 6 years to make one AAA game.
@NEStalgia Pretty much any mod that works with OpenMW works. So all your beautification, things that use OpenMW scripting instead of MWSE, etc, will all work. Has controller tracking and all that jazz too. Hell, I'm even using my VR treadmill to play it.
The Better Balanced Combat(the mod even comments on the acronym in Nexus lol) mod I mentioned makes combat so when you swing you hit, instwad of heating 1 time for every 20 swings because of dice rolls until you level up. It balances the rest of the game too so that you're not just steam rolling everything.
@abe_hikura There isn't a good path to getting Fallout London on colsole. Fallout London doesn't work with the current version of Fallout 4. To play it on Steam you have to download a 'downgrade' mod that reverts to an older patch of the game. The mod is free to download, so there is no financial reason for Bethesda to spend any time trying to get it to work.
As for Skyblivion, there is no way the Script Extender ever makes it onto console. That thing only works on Steam.
There are so many layers of modding going on to get to this point that it probably is actually easier to just create an actual remaster of Oblivion (which I really hope they are doing).
@FraserG Have y’all considered doing a round up article of games that come out each week? I mostly spend time on NL but the general practice of not really covering all game releases/announcements drives me to other sites to get that information. Then I come back too the hookshot trio for the social aspect. A round up article could garner more initial engagement and for those of us primarily looking for gaming news and not fluff/clickbait pieces could keep us from drifting away or splitting engagement. Just a thought.
Just to offer a different perspective I love Skyrim and Oblivion, but don't play on PC so don't have much awareness of this kind of stuff. I found this a really interesting read and enjoyed seeing the screenshots. Thank you.
@Ryu_Niiyama We do those for the new releases every Saturday - here's the one for next week:
https://www.purexbox.com/features/these-10plus-games-are-coming-to-xbox-next-week-august-19-23
And then we also do a monthly (and yearly) roundup:
https://www.purexbox.com/features/all-new-xbox-games-coming-out-in-august-2024
https://www.purexbox.com/guides/new-xbox-games-release-dates-in-2024
But I think maybe there's room for some kind of roundup that incorporates the game announcements we didn't get to mention during the week - such as Broken Sword in this case.
As I say, the feedback will definitely be taken into account!
@abe_hikura imo why wouldn't Xbox and Bethesda want to capitalize on this? They could absolutely turn it into a full release for Xbox & they absolutely should, just one more reason to play on Xbox.
I would kill to play Skyblivion on my Xbox Series X lol I think it'd be an amazing playthrough but if course we're SOL due to "restraints" but I believe that Microsoft and Bethesda could work with these PHENOMENAL modders to bring these creations to console. One thing I will say is playing Skyrim, Fallout and Starfield on Xbox is really something special for me. Not only do the games had a special place in my heart but every playthrough I experience something new and with mods I've been able to play missions and quests years after the games release and run. I'm glad Xbox does embrace mods and I'm glad DOOM Eternal is getting mods and I can't wait to see what the future holds. Happy gaming ✌️
@InterceptorAlpha Getting back to this post, but you have me super intrigued by Morrowind, particularly if it takes the beautification mods, and coop too. Wonder how painful it is getting it all set up. Had planned on Skyrim (finally to play Skyrim after buying thrice and still not playing lol.)
What makes Morrowind VR better than Skryim (fully modded?)
It is pretty easy to set up. Just follow the set up process for OpenMW, which requires you own Morrowind and have it installed.
After that, you just drag and drop the VR mod into the OpenMW folder and launch the VR shortcut.
As far as launching, I use my Quest 3 as a PCVR headset. I can launch it either through SteamVR via the manually added shortcut. Or I can launch Virtual Desktop and just click the shortcut on the desktop or Steam. VR hooks immediately and it changes to VR mode.
The thing that makes Morrowind better to me is the writing in general, Kirkbride can get weird, and the world. Well as much as I love Skyrim, Morrowind is a lot less generic high fantasy.
Every time I do soemthing as simple as just walk up to a silt strider in the game, I wowed. Like who though "You know, what if people rode giant fleas to get around? Hollow out their backs, and manipulate their nerves to direct them."
They amount of drugs those guys had to have ingested when making Morrowind definitely helped with the end product.
