Shattered Space Will Bring 'Narrative-Driven Horror' To The World Of Starfield This September

Ahead of its release next month, Bethesda is bringing Starfield: Shattered Space to Gamescom 2024 in a big way - we're starting to see lots of details and impressions trickle out of the event. It sounds like folks are quite excited about the first big expansion for Starfield coming this September, even if it's set to have quite a different vibe to Starfield itself.

Xbox Wire has a nice little preview up right now, which drops some interesting details about the expansion. First off, the outlet calls it "horror-inflected", with the DLC seemingly going in quite a different direction to the base game. Here are a few snippets from the outlet's preview:

"Shattered Space simultaneously offers a swathe of new missions set almost entirely across a single planet, plays with new tones and genres in a horror-inflected mystery story, and answers questions about the mysterious House Va’Ruun faction that players were introduced to in the main game. It’s a mammoth undertaking.

The sheer scope here is clear across the board. There are cosmic ghost stories, monster attacks from new species, and even what look like fully-fledged survival horror sequences with stalking abominations.

Even with just a glimpse of Shattered Space under my belt, it’s clear that this is far more than a slotted-in side-story – it’s another thread being woven into Starfield’s rich tapestry. Mysteries and horrors await on Va’Ruun’kai, and it won’t be long until we get to experience them."

Elsewhere, Xbox influencer Klobrille has also gathered up a bunch of Shattered Space features that have been disclosed during Gamescom, and we have some very cool sounding stuff in here. A FEAR-like atmosphere at times? Oh heck ya, sign us up!

As one of the responses to that tweet reminds us, yes, Shattered Space is included in the Premium Upgrade if you hopped on that back in 2023 to play the game early. Otherwise, the expansion will set you back $29.99, or $26.99 with active Xbox Game Pass subscription on September 30th.

Excited for more Starfield, folks? Tell us your thoughts on these early details down below!
