If you've been following the world of Xbox since the early days, you'll almost certainly remember Peter Moore - he was the Xbox boss back in the mid 2000s, and famously revealed Halo 2 and GTA 4 with tattoos of both games.
Moore has been in the news this week for something entirely unrelated to gaming though - as it turns out, an Apple Watch actually saved his life recently when it revealed that his heart rate had dropped to a concerning level.
Here's what he had to say in an interview with KLTA:
"I felt a little lightheaded and a little faint, and like a typical male, I thought, ‘I’ll go to Starbucks. That’ll fix it'."
"My phone started to ping and said 'low heart rate,' which I’d never seen before. And so I looked at it… my heart rate had dropped to 32."
Following this, Moore's wife rushed him to hospital where he was advised he required a pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat. The cardiac electrophysiologist who treated him stated the Apple Watch played a "big role" in saving his life.
It goes without saying that an Apple Watch can't detect everything (such as heart attacks), so obviously there are limitations with it. But in Moore's case, he says he "wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for this little device". Crazy!

@TheSimulator A former XBox head honcho’s life is saved by a piece of tech developed by MS’s rival. I’d call that an interesting anecdote worthy of inclusion here.
I’m just happy he’s doing well.
@dskatter question should be why tf Microsoft can’t create a watch
@TheSimulator because they probably still have a warehouse full of Zunes and Windows Phones. They don't have the room to store a few hundred thousand unsold watches as well.
@Markatron84 Beat me to the Zunes and Windows Phones comment, well done!
I see Peter still reads Xbox news. Yeah. It has that effect.
@TheSimulator With Microsoft's history of being able to count by adding 1 to a number (95-96, 98, 2000, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11) do you really want them to be your timepiece?
"I have a meeting at 12:30, what time is it? Oh, it's 11:49, I've still got time left."
Checks time 30 minutes later:
"OMG it's 11:79!"
@NEStalgia it's 12:360. No wait, it's 12:Series X!
Absolute Xbox and Liverpool legend!
@Markatron84 lol damn throwback
Haha, his tattoos were/are legendary!
While I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of smart watches and other wearables [as after a few years the non-replaceable battery breaks and destroys your several hundred dollar gadget] it's good that there's more accessible healthcare tech out there that saves lives and helps people get treatment early before something more major happens. Wearing a Rolex is probably more of a RISK to your health.
