Deals: All 20+ Backwards Compatible Games In The Xbox End Of Summer Sale 2024

I know you only mentioned it to help soothe the emotions of the 360 store closing, but we lost so many games in that closure that it feels a bit like a dash of salt in the wound.

Still tempted on Metal Gear and Silent Hill, but I've heard before the 360 Silent Hill collection is a mess. Anyone have any insight on that?

I'm always about to buy the Silent Hill HD Collection, but then remember all the complaints about it that I have read.

I wish Konami didn't delist Silent Hill Downpour. It's not the greatest game ever made, but it's still a decent time.

@dskatter Apparently, the PS3 version was updated, but the Xbox 360 version was not, although a few users claim that some of the problems were solved, but I don't know which ones, exactly. Perhaps someone else knows more about this, because the only one I've played is Shattered Memories.

I think that Konami should simply remaster the original titles, instead of outsourcing a remake of a single title, 2, to a questionable developer like Bloober.

Do what Koei Tecmo with Project Zero/Fatal Frame.

Same games as always, they add like 1 every 4+ months to the rotation and call it a day.

So I'm a huge Silent Hill fan, and I can honestly say that the HD collection under 10 dollars is a great deal. Although it has been cheaper on the store. I've seen it for 7.99 (US).

If anyone is curious I can make a bigger post, but the short version is that Konami never properly preserved the original games. And rather than reverse engineering them like Bluepoint does, they gave it to Studio Hijinx to fill in the missing parts.
They redubbed both games, but fan outcry forced them to go back and do new contracts with the og actors so SH2 has both new and original dub, but they couldn't finish contracts for 3 so that has only the new dub. Sometimes the new dub works, most of the time it doesn't, but if you've never played the originals it doesn't break the game.

As for the actual games, when it first came out the PS3 version was really really broken and much worse than the 360 version. They eventually released a massive patch (for the PS3) that brought it up to a little bit better than the 360 version. The 360 never got some of the fixes that the PS3 got though. But then when it became BC, it actually got a performance increase. So, it's odd. It's plays better, but is missing some of the fixes of the PS3.

But short of emulating the games, this is a good way of playing them, unless you want to spend over 100 dollars on each game trying to find the PS2 versions.

SH3 loses a lot of its punch if you haven't played SH1, but SH2 is still an amazing experience, regardless of Hijinx's questionable work.

Ooops, almost forgot. One of the things you do want to do is go into the settings and raise the brightness level. Unfortunately the games are too dark and it never got fixed. But don't make it too bright where you can see everything in the shadows.

edit* Oh, I forgot to mention again, for SH2, if it's your first time, please try the original voices. It's hard to explain, but it fits the tone of Silent Hill much much better.

@Utena-mobile This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to learn, thank you. I knew it wasn't a perfect port but I didn't know it was basically recreated on the fly. This is cool as hell to learn. I might hold off for the inevitable Halloween sale just to see if it does go cheaper.

By now I am pretty much over buying back catalogs. I got just about everything I would want from past generations, I think the 360 store closing down was the last time I will really have a go at it.

Oh no. I don't always check back on comments and I think the sale is over. Well, if SH HD ever goes on sale again, I'll answer more questions.
