Age Of Mythology: Retold Team Would Love To Do 'More' Expansions

Age of Mythology: Retold is releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Game Pass in a few weeks' time, and ahead of its launch, the developers at World's Edge sat down with Inverse to talk about the return of this RTS 22 years later.

Although the genre has experienced some lulls over the years, it has bounced back in recent times. World's Edge hopes to keep this momentum going with its latest 'Age' entry. The developer's senior producer Earnest Yuen noted how the team is using the upcoming release as a way to "look to the future" and would love to do "more" expansions if given the chance.

It seems it will come down to how much players show their support. Fortunately, the early impressions and fan reception seem quite positive so far:

There are more expansions we want to do. Of course, we need the game to be successful enough for that. We were worried going to showcases that people might think ‘Oh the game is too old,’ but the acceptance has been really encouraging for the team, and really made morale stronger. We want to push and make the best game possible right now.”

The same interview mentions how RTS has veered more on the side of "multiplayer and competitive play" over the years, but Age of Mythology can potentially lead to "more robust campaigns" in the genre again.

Apart from the story and campaign, Age of Mythology: Retold remakes the original game's art, and comes with all sorts of visual and accessibility improvements. Of course, there'll still be multiplayer modes as well. You can learn (and see) more in our previous coverage here on Pure Xbox:
