Since finally getting an Xbox release date for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, we've been excited to go hands-on with it ASAP, but it seems we're going to have to wait a little longer than expected. The teams behind the Space Marine sequel have cancelled the game's planned beta, which means we all have to wait for the full September launch to play it.
Posting on Steam, Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment say they're now "entirely focused on optimization, polish and fixing remaining issues ahead of launch". Then, the teams go on to say "this means we will not run a public online beta, as it would take the development teams away from preparing for the full launch".
"Space Marine 2 is almost ready. We are now entirely focused on optimization, polish and fixing remaining issues ahead of launch on September 9. This means we will not run a public online beta, as it would take the development teams away from preparing for the full launch, and our priority is to ensure the best possible experience at release.
We know this is disappointing news for some of you. As a thank you to those interested in participating, players who registered via the online signup before June 28, 2024, midnight Paris Time, will receive the limited Bolt Pistol skin,"
While this is ultimately disappointing considering the beta would have provided a nice taste of the game before launch, the team's reasoning for its cancellation is understandable. Space Marine 2 has been in development for some time now, so it's only natural the team wants to hit that September 9th release date.
Earlier this month, a brand-new gameplay overview sold us even more on Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Gears of War fans, you might want to keep an eye on this one!
