Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 finally came to Xbox Game Pass last week, and if you've spotted any nefarious player behaviour in your opening few days playing COD on the service, Activision is aware of increased reports about cheaters in MW3 and Warzone over the past weekend.
According to the team, its 'RICOCHET' anti-cheat software suffered "an issue with a detection system" last weekend, leading to "a spike in cheater reports". This issue has now been resolved, and things should be returning to normal as we speak.
Here's Activision's full statement on the matter:
"RICOCHET Anti-Cheat resolved an issue with a detection system over the weekend, which resulted in a spike in cheater reports. For clarity, #TeamRICHOCHET is able to detect the specific platform for all users, despite how they may appear in-game.
If you suspect a player in your lobby is cheating, regardless of platform, we recommend you submit a report in-game for further investigation. We remain committed to combating cheaters, shutting down cheat vendors, and providing our players a fair and fun experience."
If you're yet to try out MW3 on Xbox Game Pass, it's worth reading over our installation guide before downloading the title. The 'Call of Duty Hub' makes things a little confusing, so, be sure to check you only have the files you need for Modern Warfare 3.
Despite a bit of a dodgy install process, Xbox Game Pass is now delivering some neat bonuses for players, like discounts on COD Points and DLC packs thanks to subscription benefits. If you've been playing MW3 already, come tell us what you think of it via our Pure Xbox poll!

I knew this was the reason I kept dying on this game🐂💩🤬🥴
@Ricky-Spanish yep. Me too. Definitely the cheaters' fault 👀
You know this is simply to let people that normally don't play CoD, and are due to the game pass release, that they will see cheaters.
ANYBODY that plays CoD know Ricochet does pretty much nothing to stop cheaters aside from putting a road bump in the process.
I sent an email to Activision asking how to stop hackers, but they never responded to me. All they need to do is encrypt offsets! It's a simple solution. For example:
HEAD - OFFSET ID: 7366UEUE73H
SHOULDERS - OFFSET ID: 9293NEJR83N
BODY - OFFSET ID: 29292JEUEU3N
LEGS - OFFSET ID: 93J3BE7J37U
So on and so forth. Now, once this is encrypted, the above line becomes:
Ey73hdjke838k3ndu3j3ji3jrjru3jendhdydy3y3hdnd8i3ndjdjeneuejdndueje sys773y3h3jeu37euj3
There is no description of head, shoulders, offset numbers, and so on.
Hackers use trainers to find offsets. If offsets are encrypted, there is no easy way for a trainer to find them.
The solution is simple, but they refuse to implement it. I specialize in cybersecurity, and I know exactly how hacks work and how to stop them.
play something else its just not worth the brain damage.
@-MadMax-
Thats amazing that they don't encode these offsets - I had no idea, thank you.
This is rudimentary code protection, its astonishing they haven't got it covered....
If had a dollar for every time heard developer saying they are committed to stopping cheaters, I could've bought Activision.
This is why I only play campaign on COD.
Let's be honest they do the bare minimum to get rid of cheaters cause in the end each time they ban a cheater from the game they just buy another copy of the game which in the end is more money in their pocket.
@-MadMax- My memory is hazy, but why do I feel like unencryped IDs was the same issue Halo 2 had in 2004.....
@DoctorJohnDisco
Seems like a lot actually believe you can't on console and attribute all hackers to PC. I mean, yea, you'd seen the number nose dive without cross play. But there would assuredly still be hackers.
How can people cheat on consoles?
And do the PS5 users suffer the same way?
Genuine questions
@notdead Hacks, and yes.
