We've already waxed lyrical about how fantastic this year's Xbox Games Showcase was, with the entire two-hour runtime (or 90-ish minutes if you exclude the Call of Duty bit) providing some amazing reveals that left us in awe.
And apparently, there was more that could have been shown! Kinda Funny Host Parris Lilly, who has appeared on Xbox Showcases in the past, mentioned on Resetera yesterday that he'd spoken to multiple people at Xbox about this:
"Told ya that Showcase was gonna be good and the wild thing is I had multiple people at Xbox tell me there was so much more they could have shown and Gamescom is shaping up to be a big show too."
Some of the games we didn't see at the Xbox Showcase included Towerborne, Marvel's Blade, Clockwork: Revolution, Contraband, Everwild and few others, and those are just the first-party titles we actually know about.
Xbox hasn't had a big show at Gamescom for the past few years, so here's hoping we might have another showcase in store for late August. In any case, there's clearly a lot in the pipeline at Xbox, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard right now!
What else would you like to see from Xbox if there's a Gamescom show? Tell us in the comments below.

I believe it. It was a strong showcase, but there were still a lot of games with no date, or just 2025, and not a huge amount of gameplay. I imagine if many of those titles were further along they would have shown them.
With the number of studios they have they should start reliably pushing out many games onto Xbox and Game Pass. Love to see it.
I hope that is true! I’d love to see some more gameplay footage of a few titles from the showcase and maybe seeing a few more updates on the other first-party titles that were no shows at the showcase. It does make sense that they would save some things to make Gamescom possibly exciting as well.
I am definitely looking forward to 2025 and beyond. They really did such a great job on Sunday with the showcase.
Of course they could have shown more - several games were certainly missing from this showcase that we know are in development - let alone any that haven't been revealed yet.
They haven't talked about Old games coming to Game Pass after acquiring ABK either and with a stacked 6-7 months of 2023, I can understand talking more about the big 'new' releases - like BO6, Avowed, Indy, MSFS, Avowed and Stalker 2.
@themightyant I’ve been seeing people say no release dates. But honestly i don’t think it’s smart to even say a date anymore and just a window until it’s for sure. Game development is hard, things happen both good and bad. In today’s world the internet will throw a fit and not buy the game cause it missed the target release date. I think the days of coming on stage and announcing more than a couple release dates is the norm and safer for the teams. Now the scary part is MS’s show this year isn’t a fluke, next year and many years after it should look like this. With that many teams and IP’s every June showcase should have content to show a plenty!
Don't really buy that to be honest it was a great show we seen some amazing looking new games coming to gamepass but there wasn't tons of gameplay really and although it was great gears was announced it wasn't gameplay so showing more videos of non gameplay doesn't really cut it for me anyways they just got the balance right how it was for me
@HonestHick a ‘summer 2025’ or fall/winter etc would suffice. That would give a 4month ish window which is pretty reasonable.
Show was fantastic and already had almost too many games. Definitely hold off until the Jan show and don't give Geoffrey anything, guys a turd.
I doubt they have another xbox show until the January closer looks at 4-5 of the 2025 games. I wouldnt expect much for new reveals from them at gamescom type shows either. I think they did good this year at only showing a couple far off games. They should be able to match this year's great show next summer with a good mix of fall 25 and 2026 with a couple later reveals mixed in.
Their shows have been getting better each year and I think they finally found the perfect balance of when to show games. Some of the past years they showed a ton of far off games out of necessity but now that all studios are up and running under xbox they shouldn't need to do that anymore.
I wouldn't be surprised if they end up in a spot like nintendo where they can hold finished products for the perfect release window. This will lead to more polished games launching and a reliable cadence of games releasing.
I Knew it!!
Saving Banjo Kazooie, Crackdown 4 and Gears Tactics 2 for Gamescom.
@HonestHick I mostly agree on dates and it would be foolish to announce them too early, I said similar on another article (SoD3). But I still like to see dates where possible. Expectation is important.
What I don't like about 'no dates' is we really don't know anything about some of these games production timelines and release schedules. Are any of them 2026 or beyond? E.g. Is Gears E-day just an idea or is it in full production. I don't want MS going back to having half a dozen games being announced but unreleased after 3-4+ years.
As for will they be able to do the same next year? Yes I think so. But I also suspect we will see a lot of the same games again e.g. Fable, Perfect Dark, Gears, State of Decay 3, South of Midnight. And if we don't we will understandably be asking what is going on with them.
Yeah, they likely missed out the PlayStation 5 ports that will be coming!
like clockwork, if it has dialog like wastland 3 im into it.
@Krzzystuff my brain sent me an image of Geoffrey from GoT and made me laugh as both are equal scourges
@AlwaysPlaying I won't lie I did the same thing when I was writing his name. Sorry to all the Geoffreys out there....but you're likely a turd. 100% of Geoffreys I know are so it's scientific.
Having this many studios, it was only a matter of time before MS started running on all cylinders and started releasing first party titles consistently. MS has a pipeline of developers that can kick out a lot of games on a regular basis so it doesn’t surprise me at all that they could have had a lot more to show if they wanted.
That said, it’s better they held off on some and did the show as they did. It would have been too much for one show if they added anything more. That show was a resounded success and it’s good to know they have many more games to present in future shows that won’t be a retread of this one.
On with the show…
I'm sure they could have.
But all of them would been. Coming 2047.
That is instant turnoff to me. 6 month rule is truly the only way to go.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner i don’t disagree, i am just saying this is likely the new normal unless they really have it dialed in to when it will finish. Starfield taught us telling us something and getting it in our hands is two different things.
@themightyant yeah i agree i just think unless they have it dialed into a for sure window we might not see dates or seasons, Starfield launch date was jumping around all over the place for what like over a year or so? Yeah we will see some of these with more gameplay or gameplay and they will have some new titles to announce and that alone should be a great show. I mean look on Push Square right now they are begging for Sony just to have a show not even asking for release dates but just whats to look forward too. We got that at least. 😊
@Nic-Noc20th-C Can't forget Brute Force 2 and an Azurik prequel!
I thought it was a great showing for next year. This year not so much
Yeah they skipped all the Japanese stuff. Sega/Atlus and SqEn both had stuff, and game pass stuff. They should do a Japanese games show.
@HonestHick I do agree we won't see many dates and for good reasons. But Starfield is a poor example why, as the initial date was naively set almost 18 months ahead of it's proposed launch as 11.11.22 all the way back at E3 2021. It didn't release till almost a year later. That was ALWAYS stupid, many said it the day they announced it, delays seemed inevitable. No one else does that, and for good reason.
As for people reacting on Push Square, i'm never too interested in that as too many just knee-jerk response to the latest good/bad news. Same was true here a month ago when it was "Xbox is dead" here. Plenty of fans with short memories and/or trying to score points.
I think the reality is much more bright everywhere. E.g. PlayStation without a big showcase has already quietly had a very good year so far - FF7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Animal Well Day 1 on PS+ (my current GOTY) with more to come like Astro Bot, Concord, Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn and more. It's hardly the empty year many are discussing. But too many don't like nuance, it's win or lose, a false dilemma.
And as much as some may not like it here the reality is the excellent Xbox showcase was 50% a PlayStation showcase too with at least half the announcements going over there.
Gaming looks bright everywhere imho.
Would love to see that Xbox handheld soon, I’m hoping for a reveal at Gamescom.
@HonestHick
That never happens. The internet throw a fit over confirmed release dates and harassing studios into delaying their games.
@Sifi Games are games imo. Doesn't matter if they are first party, third party or whatever, fact is there are plenty of good games this year on PS5 including some great console exclusives. Whether you personally like them is more subjective.
"Xbox has no games" was always a stupid thing fanboys said to score points, it's was always factually inaccurate and lazy, i'm never going to defend it or their petty wars.
But I always interpreted it to mean that "Xbox has
novery few GREAT EXCLUSIVE games" - the type that might make you choose one console over another - which during the Xbox One era was pretty accurate in my opinion as a Day 1 XBO owner. But the same is just not factually true on PS5.I believe they kept Gears 6 a secret and showed us E-Day that is going to release after Gears 6 just to get hardcore funs excited and they plan on showing Gears 6 in the game awards with a 2025 release date! I really hope this gona happend because if e-day is the next Gears its going to release in 2026 (if it was for 2025 they would say so) and i cant believe we re gona keep playing Gears 5 till 2026, for 7 years after it was released... Thats way to long for Gears!
I'm not going to hold my expectations for Gamescom. Maybe Towerborne release date...
Honestly, I don't think we currently need any more games being showcased this year. Yea, their Showcase lacked some games that were announced ages ago (mainly Everwild and Contraband), but current Microsoft focus should be on fall and holiday period.
They have stacked last three months of the year. ARA, Age of Mythology and Stalker 2 in september, COD in october, Avowed and Flight sim in november and Indy in december. Make sure you are tying those releases to Game Pass and consoles (especially Call of Duty). Be aggressive with pricing.
And if those games will pan out in expected quality, then you can talk about more games in January.
There would be nothing better like Developer_Direct with Fable, South of Midnight and Doom after stacked late 2024.
Then prepare next showcase for june 2025 with new announcements.
Xbox is holding on to their best cards for a later time.
@themightyant i agree i to think gaming looks bright and the big 3 are all doing good. The 50% PS title thing is going to happen when they showed games like Metal gear, assassin’s creed and Doom and COD. However i still think Sony needs to have a more exciting show next year. I am excited to see what they have planned.
@Ricky-Spanish They have many studios making games in parallel. Additional games could be in a similar state or further along. The show has a time limit and Xbox has partners whose game also needed time. Some games don't make the cut. There is significant time involved in putting together each of those trailers.
Because Xbox did not show more gameplay for SoD3 (for example) does not mean it is not playable or that there are not others like it. E-Day is early so we likely won't see gameplay for a year or so.
@jesse_dylan Tokyo Game show in late September. Gamescon is in late August.
It was a very strong showcase I will give them that, only bit missing for me was more of the Acti/Blizzard games coming to Game Pass.
Makes sense. We have no idea what Double Fine, Arkane Lyon, Beenox (assuming they're not on CoD watch again), and 343 have been cooking.
Not to mention they've entered into a partnership with Toys for Bob, we haven't seen anything Everwild or Project Mara, and Xbox got another dozen or so studios with the ABK deal. Who knows what they can show!
They should’ve from a marketing and business stand point having articles nonstop showing ps5 sales and how Xbox will lose exclusives it would’ve been perfect to knock it out the park at a low point in the brand
I'm still not sure why Xbox can't have had a great showing without it having been at PlayStation's expense? Who cares? Yeah, my PS5 is collecting dust, but it has been since I played through Last of Us for the umpteenth time (and now that we're not getting this nifty MP game, probably a bit longer). But games are games. I have a job. I'll go where the games are. Xbox has always had me because of Game Pass. I might be predominantly on PC now but 90% of my gaming still comes from my GP subscription. Looks like that monthly money is going to get me a LOT of good stuff in the coming years. Yay.
At this point I'm not really sure why they're keeping so much of their first party catalogue off game pass.
Where's Crash, Spyro, COD, warcraft etc. ??
I'm excited to see all these games come to fruition. But its still a 'wait till next year scenario' for most and even further out for others.
It's tough for the format holders to get the balance right. If you only show games within a '6 month from expected releases scenario' like sony appear to be sticking to, then you have no games. If you share with people your plans for the next 18 months and beyond, as Xbox have done, then you are showing 'vapourware and ideas' rather than games.
If there's no happy medium then I prefer Xbox's approach. It gives you titles to look forward too even if development goes wrong and the games gets canned or delayed further and creates a buzz even if its very light on details.
