FromSoftware is known for its unforgiving video games, and that of course extends to those games' expansions as well. Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is one such expansion, and it's been taking the gaming world by storm in recent weeks - becoming the highest-rated Xbox release in 2024. However, some concerns have been thrown at its overall difficulty — even for a FromSoftware title — and the team has now addressed these concerns.
Tucked into Elden Ring Patch 1.12.2 is a "calibration update" to "adjust the expansion’s balance" for players on all platforms. The way they're doing this is all a bit technical, so we'll just drop the team's full explanation down below:
Elden Ring Patch 1.12.2 Difficulty Changes
"Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Scadutree Blessing have been revised.
- The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
- The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.
The calibration update can be applied by logging into the multiplayer server.
If the Calibration Ver. listed at the bottom right of the title menu is not "1.12.2", then select LOGIN and apply the latest regulations before enjoying the game."
As we mentioned up at the top, despite a section of the fanbase finding Shadow of the Erdtree particularly tough, the Elden Ring expansion has reviewed incredibly well so far. We'll drop a link to our recent review roundup for Shadow of the Erdtree down below.

But...but...I thought the developer couldn't make things easier "without breaking the game"

excuses, I knew it was all excuses.
@No_Allegiance They are basically just making they way you level up in the dlc more lop sided so the leveling up you do at the start is slightly stronger than at the end so it's basically just giving you goggles now for you acid dip but I get what you saying but it's not really relevant in this case because we all know "The goggles do nothing"
They nerf it...right after I spend an afternoon getting the hang of it. Laaame. The only one that still gives me trouble is that crazy Dancer Disc guy. He's horrible.
@Xbox_Dashboard You will still die a lot don't worry it's still hard
@Ricky-Spanish oh its fine. I was rusty. Running a silly Arc/Faith build and having a blast. Still hate the dancer tho.
@Xbox_Dashboard Could never get used to magic builds in any of the games keep going you will do it🤴
@Ricky-Spanish I'm running it as melee with emphasis on Ant-Spur Rapier and Dragonbreath. It's enjoyable.
I could have used this when I was stuck on Rellana for as long as I was. Oh well, I beat her eventually.
