Late last week, we got the news that GTA 6 was aiming for a Fall 2025 release date following last year's debut trailer for the title, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now put some extra weight behind that schedule.
Talking to CNBC about the company's recent financials — and that new GTA 6 launch window — Zelnick said that while there is release date "slippage" in the industry, the team is "highly confident" that it can hit the newly-announced window.
"Well, there is slippage in the industry, and we're not immune from that. However, we narrowed the timing because we are highly confident in that timing."
Of course, the game's actual release date will in time tell us whether Take-Two and Rockstar can stick to their current timeline, but history does suggest that delays could happen. Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5 were delayed from their initial launch windows, so it's not uncommon for the team. Still, we're hoping that won't be the case with GTA 6!
While we're not quite as confident as Zelnick in this specific launch window, we are very confident that GTA 6 will turn out great. Our hype levels have only increased since last week's news and we can't wait to see more of the game in action between now and release.
Do you think GTA 6 will actually come out late next year? Tell us your thoughts at this stage down below.

Still a long ways away. It's rare to even get a window this early these days. Definately possible they miss that.
It will be interesting to see what they do with online. It's still very popular and there arent very many examples of a still popular live service game with a huge amount of content having a successful sequel. They almost need to carry it over and somehow incorporate the new map.
They delayed it this long because they know it won’t top GTA5. wouldn’t be surprised if even GTA4 turns out to be better than 6
Still to far away to even think about wish it was a new red dead instead 🧑🌾
I’ll believe it’ll release in Fall 2025 when it releases in Fall 2025. I’m expecting it to be delayed to 2026.
@nomither6 What do you mean ‘it won’t top GTA V’? Everybody can safety bet on their lives that GTA VI will outsell GTA V and bring in more players once the online mode is fully up and running. I don’t think there has ever been a GTA release that didn’t outsell the previous release (not counting the GTA Stories, I’m on about the main games GTA 3, Vice City, SA, IV and V).
They have had over 10 years and two console generations to produce this next entry. And still giving themselves another year and some change, I would feel pretty confident too.
I wonder if this is the biggest game ever? In terms of years developing etc. will this be the last one of this scale and size?
I think the success or failure of this will determine the video game industry and how it plans new games etc.
Personally, I don't believe the big games thing is sustainable for the industry and it should be 2/3 big games a year followed by lots of smaller games like indie etc.
We have probably seen that with MS taking everything over such an amount of companies to eliminate competition by shutting them down soon after. Means less chance of big games as there are less studios to make them and you can't fund a game of this nature without having being in the industry for decades.
@Blofse Bethesda games take the longest to make games by far and they aren't really truly playable or in a proper state till normally a year later like star field now but GTA will be the best game when it comes out since red dead2
@MaccaMUFC the storymode
(& not sure if this matters but , FiveM is pretty big)
@nomither6 I doubt the majority will care whether or not the story mode will be as good as IV or V. They will care more about the actual open world with what they can see and do.
Once the online mode has been updated after awhile with many more things to do and buy you can bet that Rockstar will be focusing on that until GTA VII in the next 10+ years. It will be interesting to see where they set that in, surely they won’t be going back to Liberty City? I’d rather they just remastered GTA IV, which is my favourite GTA for story mode. Plus the Euphoria physics engine was revolutionary at the time, it’s even better and more realistic than GTA V’s imo.
@MaccaMUFC GTA7 most likely is gonna be London . They’ve already covered the major popular areas of the USA, any other location in the USA would not be as popular . I agree about GTA4 too, i like it more than 5. And sure the story mode isn’t gonna be what most care about , but GTAs story mode is in its own league , it’s not like it’s some tacked on COD campaign; people are gonna talk about it
@nomither6 I'll be retired by the time GTA7 comes out!
@Blofse we all will be !
@ZuneTattooGuy there’s a good chance they didn’t have the tech in the last generation to make the games vision they wanted to produce. Not making excuses, just saying sometimes big idea games like this pick and choose their spots. Last gen they had Red Dead 2 doing very well and pushing that tech to its limits. I believe GTA 6 will be a game from a tech standpoint that we be truly next gen. Hell 6 years later and RDR2 is better than most PS5/ Series X games.
The problem with GTA 5 is most of it's sales are from the original x360/ps3 version which launched without multiplayer. Rockstar has made so much money from the online version they haven't bothered with a new GTA 6, until now. I don't know what Rockstar is going to do with GTA 6, but I think they are going to go for live service/ multiplayer focused and the single player is likely a minor aspect of GTA 6. I don't know why creating weather is important, not something I want in a game but Rockstar seems to think it's important.
