It's no secret that Baldur's Gate 3 has been an absolutely smashing success for Larian Studios and IP-owner Hasbro, as the game has swept pretty much every awards show we can think of recently. Well, the owner wants to press on with more Baldur's Gate in the future for obvious reasons, but it'll have to do so without the esteemed Baldur's Gate 3 team.
Talking to PC Gamer this week, Hasbro says that it's "talking to lots of partners" about "embracing the challenge" of another Baldur's Gate game. The team insists it's taking its time, even if it hopes to avoid another 25 years between mainline titles.
"We're going to take our time and find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that could represent the future of Baldur's Gate. We take that very, very seriously, as we do with all of our decisions around our portfolio. We don't rush into decisions as to who to partner with on products or what products we should be considering."
Developer Larian Studios confirmed last month that it was moving away from the series after Baldur's Gate 3, making any potential follow-up a tough one to execute following the sheer success of BG3 - after all, we scored it an "Outstanding" 10/10 here at Pure Xbox!
In the meantime, let's see how many more awards the third entry can gather before things taper off, and the speculation for what comes next really kicks into gear.
Is there anyone in mind that you'd like to develop a new Baldur's Gate title? Drop your ideas down below.

I'm still curious as to why Larian have decided not to make another, even if they were to make a different game (hopefully Divinity Original Sin 3) in the meantime. I have heard rumour of some tension between Larian and Wizards, which maybe to the answer. Do you happen to know, @Kezelpaso?
Regardless, in my opinion, Larian are the best studio out there, and no matter what they do next, I will be first in line to pre-order it. Swen Vincke can do no wrong in my book...
It won’t be half as good.
@Hexamex-Tex Many say BG3 isn't as good as BG2 too. Certainly from what I've seen of BG3, the writing is sub par in comparison and more comparable to a Marvel comic rather than say something well written like LOTR.
BG2 was better but that was a long time ago.
@Fiendish-Beaver It not due to tension between Larian and Wizard… It the tension between Larian and Hasbro. Hasbro has been doing massive layoffs especially within Wizards of the Coast. This had caused many of the contacts that Larian worked with during development to be let go.
Larian has been very vocal about the layoffs affecting the game industry, and their decision to move away from the franchise is probably cause of this. They don’t want to bring massive profit to a company who still turns around and fires people who the part of the team that help achieve this.
Right, @AverageGamer. Got you, thanks, matey...
Let's be honest D&D is a shell of its former self since Hasbro owned them. It's just their two dollar hooker now.
@Tasuki
Best thing about D&D is you can make it as great as your imagination between yourself and your buddies will let you. It doesn't matter who they are owned by
I'd vote for Obsidian, pre-acquisition. There's so few high-quality independent studios left now...maybe one of the new split off studios with former devs?
