If you were hoping Larian Studios would be following up the release of Baldur's Gate 3 with DLC or perhaps even a sequel, you might want to keep reading...
At the 2024 Game Developers Conference this week, studio founder Swen Vincke said the Belgian developer was moving on from Dungeons & Dragons entirely (thanks, IGN). Even DLC (including expansions) appears to be off the cards, with Larian instead opting to release multiple free updates (featuring content, quality-of-life improvements, and more) since the game's launch.
Larian never actually guaranteed it would extend the adventures of Baldur's Gate 3 with DLC or expansions, so this is seemingly it! Last year in August, Larian also mentioned how it would "carry on patching" Baldur's Gate 3 for a while, so there's at least that.
Just this week, the Xbox version of the game received three updates in one day. Cross-platform mod support is also apparently coming to the title later this year.
How do you feel about Larian potentially moving on from Baldur's Gate 3? Let us know in the comments.

Is the game all patched up?
That is a surprise, I would have thought they would want to build on its success. Maybe there’s an issue with the D&D license holders because that all seems very final.
I guess they want to focus on IPs they own. Baldur’s Gate has been great for D&D, but perhaps they are hoping they can get at least a chunk of that user base and popularity over to Divinity?
Warhammer 40k next?
While D&D is deep in the game's DNA it's not what made it such a big success. It could have been its own IP, and still use the whole "tabletop inspired" gimmick as WotC doesn't own the rules to D&D.
I think WotC should be paying THEM as I think D&D would have got the promotional boost out of this.
