The big highlight of this week's Xbox Partner Preview event was the shadow drop of STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and it seems to be going down a treat so far.
That's according to the reviews on the Xbox Store, which are filled with almost unanimous praise at the moment. In the US, the STALKER trilogy has a 4.7/5 rating based on over 170 reviews - definitely not a bad start whatsoever!
Here's what some of those Xbox reviews are saying about STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy:
CodeRed8Five on Xbox: "If you are looking for a solid port of a survival game, buy this ASAP. 3-ish hours of play and no issues. Plays surprisingly excellent on a controller. Game has a decent learning curve and is a solid challenge. If you are starving for something to play, this is a buy."
eXodusArise on Xbox: "Control mapping is surprisingly smooth. Would love keyboard and mouse support but the integration for controller works well enough I can't complain. It's simple to use and easy to grasp for both rookie and veteran STALKERs. It actually does raise my hopes on how STALKER 2 will work being released as a console title."
TacticalTurt744 on Xbox: "The hype I had today was the same when I picked up the original many years ago. Port is awesome and in keeping with the original. Like finding a long lost friend".
It's not all positive news though. Some have pointed out that the three games are quite "janky" and very difficult in nature, which obviously won't suit everyone. There are also complaints about the sound of the crows being far too loud in the Xbox version, and the lack of mouse and keyboard support is another downer as things stand.
Aside from that though, it seems like the STALKER trilogy is off to a great start on Xbox! We're currently playing the game for ourselves and will have some hands-on impressions to share in the near future, and in the meantime you can check out 16 minutes of our exclusive Xbox Series S footage in the video at the top of this article.

I’ll wait for the “next-gen” patch for PS5 and Series X/S before playing them, I just hope it will come out before the sequel arrive.
The first ratings I never pay attention to. Those more than likely from fans or strong supporters of the game.
After about a month of release I'll look at the ratings on storefront. Those will reflect what the every day person thinks. Sometimes it agrees with the early opinions and things. Other times are incredibly different.
looks great. runs great.
should have been on game pass/10.
also if you are not a gun person or a hunter you wouldn't notice the odd choice that guy above has for shotgun ammo. looks like #4 buckshot which is only in the man stopper class under 25 yards. i think i would want 00 buckshot in an unknown area. but maybe thats all he could find,
It definitely shows its age as far as how it feels shooting at enemies. I had one crash so far when I moved to the next level, but I had put the game in Quick Resume right before that so I’m guessing it had something to do with it. I do seem to be unable to switch to a different weapon on the weapon wheel using the LB+X it’s showing on screen (not sure if I’m just misunderstanding it). Other than that, the atmosphere is still great to me and it plays very smoothly. This is all based on the first game only, haven’t tried the others yet.
I’m glad it’s being well received so far but like others I’m also waiting for the Series X patch before I play these games for the very first time. I hope the patch doesn’t come close to Stalker 2 release as it’ll most likely be jarring going from that to these.
I usually turn the music off in these type of games to get better immersion but it seems the music plays a big part in building up tension so I may leave them on when I get round to playing them.
I played about three hours (one hour each game) and had a hard time liking it. It's near impossible for me to shoot any enemies and I've died numerous times randomly. I was in a house, health was 100% and then - game over - across the screen. Lol. Not sure what that was about. And aim assist, even when adjusting it in the settings, doesn't exist. I also suck, so there's that. Any tips from anyone would be welcome.
@Romans12 There are radioactive anomalies that will randomly appear, that’s probably what happened in the house. Did you see a shimmer? As far as shooting enemies, once you get a gun besides the pistol, it gets easier. If you’re able to get close enough without the enemy noticing you, the knife is an instant kill as well. Be sure and use bandages (left on D pad) and medkits (right on D pad) during a fire fight to keep healed up. Maybe you knew all that already, but it’s a challenging game for sure.
@P3nguinprisM Awesome. Thanks.
@Chaotic_Goat Are you sure they have XSX and PS5 versions coming?
@Ken_Kaniff yup, search for it, it’s pretty easy to find. They say “later this year”.
I got it on PS5 due to the price glitch on the UK PSN store (full trilogy for £15.99). Had always wanted to play and, yeah, it’s quite challenging but I’m enjoying it even with the “jank”. The 60 FPS is quite smooth so can’t see the next gen upgrades adding too much other than graphical improvements. So I’m just diving in. At least going to play the first game.
@Chaotic_Goat Cool, thanks for the info. I'll also wait for the next gen versions.
Grabbed the 3rd one in the trilogy only (Call of Pripyat) to get myself acquainted with the IP before the new one drops, having never played them. Yeah it looks, feels and sounds old, which it is, but I can also see myself having fun with it. It doesn't hand hold like newer games tend to and I like that. And at only 6ish Gb it'll sit on my SSD unchallenged when the usual game shuffling happens when I'm trying to make room for additional purchases.
I’m so glad I made use of the glitch for PS5 (€ 19,99 for the trilogy). I still hardly know what I actually bought since I don’t know the series, but these images look seriously impressive for such old games. Atmosphere seems great as well.
