There have been multiple stories about how Xbox isn't abandoning its hardware division (including claims several projects have actually been greenlit), and with this in mind, a reportedly "new" Xbox development kit has been certified in South Korea.
As highlighted by 'Xbox News for Koreans' on social media (via VGC), a new development kit has been approved for use by the South Korean National Radio Research Agency. Here's a look at the official documentation:
VGC further notes how it's been "manufactured in China and Vietnam" and "carries model number 2089". The interesting part is that the Xbox Series X development kit (featuring model number 1881) was certified by this same agency just five months before its official launch back in November 2020.
Xbox already had a massive leak last September, when an all-digital Series X codenamed "Brooklin" that was potentially targeting a "late 2024" release surfaced online in some FTC leaks. Xbox later on suggested it was subject to change.
The latest update has also surfaced alongside rumours about a 'PS5 Pro' launching this year and a claim last month that Xbox would be releasing a "white, all-digital Series X this summer". Things are getting interesting now!
If we hear any updates about this supposedly new development kit, we'll let you know.

Yay? wonder what it is.
I prefer the idea of a handheld Series S over a Series Xx.
Series Z incoming 🙂
No point going handheld with cloud gaming working on most devices or streaming decks plus nobody is beating Nintendo for handhelds all digital series X sounds perfect and if they made it smaller it's perfection and concentrate on nxt gen
@abe_hikura Yeah but what about a Series XXX? Would that get you excited?
Sure they said it in the official podcast that new hardware was going to be announced end of year.
Hopefully it's something different compared to PS5 Pro, and MS and Sony would finally go in distinct directions. If nothing, it would make it easily justifiable to us as consumers to support both platforms.
Looking more at console sales and the way things are. And also the supposed loss they might make on each console sold.
Do Xbox go big and battle the console sales market, because they will lose out even more when Switch 2 and PS5 Pro show up for definite or look at the above I wrote and go home and focus on software.
I personally find it a really tough decision to make if I had the business choice to make for Microsoft.
Hopefully it's for a non cloud streaming handled device but a dedicated one at that.
You want to win the next gen Xbox? Launch it in 2025 alongside a certain GTA VI…you grab every early adopters and you leapfrog Sony for a good 2 years while they are stuck with their pro model. On top of that, you release Gears 6, Forza horizon 6 and Fable the same fall!
Of course Xbox isn’t gonna try a winning formula!
@Burnfeeling not sure how winning this would be.. it would burn every bridge with current user-base they had (Series console would end up being a 4-5 year flop that had negligible number of first party releases).
What would raise a average consumers confidence in Xbox as a brand to invest in a new machine? I would prefer them to go different market route, PC handheld with "Windows for gaming - patent waiting approval" OS.
There's been a lot of talk about them having another gen starting in 2026 so maybe it's true. I am curious about the prospect of it being a dockable thing like the switch. Either way let's get that fancy new controller out with them anti drift sticks.
I wouldn't think an all digital series x would necessitate a new dev kit. This may be target kits for next gen. Remember games take years to develop.
@Cikajovazmaj There’s multiple 5 years generation in the history of consoles: OG Xbox (4 years) N64, PS1, WiiU
Then, 1st party would certainly support cross gen for a good 2 years after launch…all the games they announced would still launch on the series consoles ( Fable, State of decay 3, Perfect dark, etc)
There’s a market for those who want a more powerful system every 5-6 years. In my opinion, it’s much better then having a mid gen every 4 years…but that’s just me.
@Burnfeeling agree with your post a lot. I am one of those people that would enjoy a new console every 5-6 years not 7-8.
Lol, this is the new Series X all digital so prepare yourself to be disappointed.
This can only be the revised Series X model. Let's see how Microsoft will approach the ability to play our disc based games (of this, is as rumoured all digital).
@MrMagic it’s either that or the rumored handheld but it’s not a next gen yet. To early for that. Series X still has plenty of juice left for a few more years. But i will be selling my PS5 for a PS5 Pro.
@Krzzystuff Exactly what I was thinking … a new anti drift controller can fit under my Christmas tree anytime…
Really don't see much point in pro consoles ...what more can they really do apart from offer abit better resolution and frames when they need to run on the base consoles..... doubt il get the ps pro or an Xbox pro if they release one
@MrMagic
A dev-kit just for a Series X without an optical drive?
Don't think so...
@MrMagic if this just another version of Series X, then it doesn't need a new dev kit hardware.
Make the series x become the cheaper model , drop a handheld or team up with steam or that lg handheld
