We love a good racing game here at Pure Xbox, and we've recently been playing one that we think absolutely deserves your attention in the form of New Star GP. It turns out other Xbox fans think the same way as well!
Most of the reviews for this one are sitting in the five-star range on the Xbox Store as things stand, while the OpenCritic average currently sits at 80%. As an example, here's what our sister sites Push Square and Nintendo Life said about it:
Push Square (8/10): New Star GP goes beyond a fitting tribute to SEGA's arcade classic, Virtua Racing. When tracks bear striking similarities to Interlagos, Silverstone, and more — never mind that you're fighting off-brand rivals like Michael Schildhauer and Niki Laube — New Star GP takes clear inspiration from Formula 1 to deliver a compelling experience. Boasting a surprisingly hefty career mode, we've rarely seen arcade racers with this much depth.
Nintendo Life (8/10): "New Star GP pays homage to the days of Virtua Racing with a brilliant F1-style racer that retains the same compelling moreishness its studio is known for. Its performance is a bit clunky to the point that it’s noticeable quite often, but that shouldn’t put you off buying yet another New Star gem."
In the game, you'll progress through different decades of racing through an expansive career mode featuring full Grand Prix events along with Elimination Races, Time Trials, Checkpoint Races and one-on-one Rival Races. Split-screen multiplayer is included as well, featuring the ability to support up to three other players.
If you're interested, New Star GP is currently £24.99 / $29.99 on the Xbox Store. It's developed by New Star Games, who created the fantastic New Star Soccer, New Star Manager, Retro Bowl and Retro Goal games for other platforms.

It looks ok probably would be fun but not at that price
Thanks for the heads up: I will check it out 🙂
FYI there is a free demo!
For me it just feels a bit sluggish and lifeless to drive, pales in comparison to Virtual Racing
Does it have 4 player split screen?
This game is awesome. Great mix of casual and sim mechanics with an old-school coin arcade feel on top of it. If you are a racing fan at all, it would be a travesty to overlook it.
Between this and Legend Bowl, I am glad we are getting more indie sports games with good gameplay and career modes.
Felt very slow to me.
@Dimey Thanks for the heads up on the demo!
I really loved this, not sure what people were expecting, but the handling felt very arcade-F1 to me: you need to brake but not to some insane degree of precision! The vibe of Sunday afternoon, Murray Walker F1 is very intact. Worth saying it gets faster as you go through the eras too. Played the demo on Xbox, but got the game on Switch.
Sale written all over it
