Dead Island 2 was an absolutely huge Xbox Game Pass surprise when it landed on the service late last month, and it looks like lots of Xbox fans have been playing this one since it first came to the library.
As spotted by BenjiSales on Twitter, Deep Silver's Dead Island sequel is now top of the 'Most Popular' Game Pass list in the US. At the time of writing, the game currently sits at number two in the UK - only pipped to the post by the ever-popular Minecraft.
Now, we should add that we're not entirely sure how Microsoft measures the data to form these charts. It could be game installs, bootups or even overall playtime - but given the sheer popularity of titles like Minecraft and Palworld, we'd expect it to be one of the former measurements.
Here in the UK, freshly-caught shark-munching RPG Maneater also sits at number four at the time of writing, so clearly, new additions are often amongst the most popular Game Pass titles. Still, top spot in the US is nothing to sniff at, and we're sure Deep Silver will appreciate the attention Dead Island 2 is getting after almost a decade in development.

Not surprised it's a decent fun game that said I only played about ten minutes and probably won't go back other things to play
Played it but knew it wouldn't be my thing. I just can't get on with jump scares in games and there lots of doors to be opened.
@Pac_Bot every time I open a door there seems to be a zombie behind it, I don’t know why I’m still surprised!
I thought I’d give it a try, but have played it for nearly 24 hours now, it’s much more fun than I expected. I’m playing the Irish lass so there’s a lot of ‘feck’ and ‘shoite’…
i really enjoyed all 3 dead island games(on series x). i put around 60 hours in dead island 2 and about 80 hours each in the older ones so far. just hope its not ten years til dead island 3.
It is a superb game that deserves success, and that is despite its well documented development problems. I really hope the game finds a large community of gamers, and that then leads to a further game in the franchise (though hopefully it will take a fraction of the time that DI2 took to make!)...
I only gave it a go because it’s on GP and I am loving it. It has a fun vibe to it both in the story and gameplay.
I am not a fan of first person melee but this is working for me so well that I’m now considering playing the Dying Light games and will give Avowed a go when it drops.
I really enjoyed it finished the main story last week and still want to finish up the side quests and stuff I've missed.
Dead island 2 and Maneater are both absolute blasts to play. Both are the few games I played nightly until finished and wanted lots more to play. Highly recommend if looking for game to chill out and be amused with.
@Fiendish-Beaver My opinion is dead island 2 was going to be like the other two dead island games which were terrible to play. So they decided go back to the drawing board and redo it.
I absolutely, utterly, completely, totally, beyond shadow of any doubt hate games that have weapon breaking mechanics and double down to rely on that to carry a game. The other two were nonstop searching for material to fix weapons. It was so bad, spent more time doing that than even playing the story. Just horrible games.
Dead island 2 nails it though. Repair with cash at work bench, tons of weapons laying around, not seem to break down too fast, etc. It does not overpower the combat or game much at all. Superior game to is predecessors in every way.
I've been playing it some with my wife and enjoying it but not sure if I like it as much as the first 2 games yet.
Been hacking away at this since day one Gamespass release and really enjoying it. My only irritation was fighting that damn clown but eventually beat him.
Really enjoying DI2. Bit like Man Eater which I got the platinum for when it was on Plus. Both games have many issues with them that can be pointed out but are designed to be FUN and as long as its fun then I don't think people care about the flaws.
I just hope they keep it on GP long enough for me to get through it..
