Of all the people you might expect to be working on an Xbox Game Studios project, the actor for Jar-Jar Binks probably isn't one of them! Nevertheless, that's exactly what's being teased by the prequel trilogy star, Ahmed Best.
This week, Best shared a photo of a mo-cap studio with an "Activision" tag, leading to plenty of speculation about what he's up to, before it was then uncovered that he shared a similar photo recently with the "CompulsionGames" tag.
Here's a quick look at the latest photo, along with what he had to say in both Instagram posts:
February 2024: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. #mocap #starwars #jarjarbinks #activision #jedi #sithlord #kelleranbeq"
November 2023: "Started my movie career on the #mocap #pcap stage and now it’s an honor to get to direct something I helped pioneer. These past couple of weeks have been how I want to live everyday. I’ve always been on the cutting edge as an artist, educator, and futurist. Here’s to more edges cut! #jarjarbinks #episodeone #mandalorian #jedi #sith #microsoft #compulsiongames #xbox #afrofuturist Sidenote: BLUE MARVEL #bluemarvel"
The mention of Compulsion Games means Ahmed has almost certainly been playing a role in the creation of Xbox's first-party project South of Midnight, which is currently being worked on by the We Happy Few developers.
But what about the "Activision" reference? Well, as mentioned over at Eurogamer, Activision has a mo-cap studio in LA that gets leased out to other projects, so it's very possible that South of Midnight is being produced in that studio.
If that is the case, it's great to see Ahmed working on an Xbox project, and we've got high hopes that South of Midnight will turn out to be something special. Isn't it about time we gave Jar-Jar his own AAA adventure game as well?!
