Alan Wake 2 was one of the best-received game releases of 2023 from a critical standpoint, and the title seems to have done well for Remedy from a commercial perspective as well.
In a new press release from the developer, the team has announced that Alan Wake 2 has shifted 1.3 million copies as of the beginning of February 2024 - making it their fastest-selling game so far. Considering the game seemed to get off to a slow start on Xbox, this is great news coming out of the Finnish development studio.
As a result of this early success, Remedy now considers Alan Wake an "established franchise", alongside Control which already has a sequel in development. Here's what Remedy CEO Tero Virtala had to say on today's news - including some hints on what's coming up from the team:
"The successful launch of Alan Wake 2 has supported our other game projects: Condor, Control 2 and Max Payne 1&2 remake have all increased development pace thanks to the personnel released from Alan Wake 2, and we expect these projects to reach their next development stages during the first half of 2024.
We now have two established franchises: Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe. Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future."
The fact that Remedy considers Alan Wake an established franchise is good news for longtime fans - fans who had to wait over 13 years for a sequel to the original Xbox 360 game. If you'd like to read up on our thoughts on Alan Wake 2, we'll drop our full written review down below!
