An Xbox first-party release has taken home another game award this week - and it's hardly surprising when you check which category it ended up winning. Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi RUSH is the game in question, and it won the 'Best Music in a Game' award at the annual New York Game Awards ceremony yesterday.
For those unaware, Hi-Fi RUSH is all about the music - combining rhythm game mechanics with third-person combat in a refreshingly colourful adventure. It absolutely blew us away last January, and we're happy to see it continue to scoop up awards to this day!
As for the rest of the categories - it's perhaps no surprise to see Baldur's Gate 3 take the overall Game of the Year Award, with Alan Wake 2 also scoring a win. We'll drop the full New York Game Awards winners list down below:
- Best Game of the Year
- Baldur's Gate 3

I am happy Hi-Fi Rush got an award.
Though nowadays music is probably the strongest part of all games: in worst cases it is just OK but in most of the titles one might find severals tracks which give you chills.
Hi-Fi >>>>>> Baldur's Gate.
Hi-Fi was playable when it released on Xbox. 😂
Well done Tango Gameworks, Hi-Fi Rush is wonderful. Well deserved.
I'm currently playing through Spiderman 2, @Sifi, and though I am enjoying it, it really hasn't evolved from the first game. The story is good, but I feel the need to finish it now. It's not that I'm bored, just that it isn't massively engaging.
I loved Alan Wake 2, and will return to it fairly soon to tackle a New Game+.
There were only two games that I played recently that once I had finished, I didn't feel like I was done with the game. The first was Lies of P, which is just sublime. It's easily my favourite Soul-like game, other than Eldin Ring, of course. And the second game was Baldur's Gate 3, which for me, is the best game ever made throughout the history of gaming! My solo run lasted about 350 hours, and when the story ended, I seriously contemplated going again. I had numerous build ideas running around in my head, plus the obvious possibilities of doing things differently in the game. The different ways to undertake a single mission, or ways of playing the game (evil/good/no reloads etc.). It's absolutely mindboggling! Easily the best game going.
Ultimately, I think all those that are saying that Spiderman 2 should win all these Game of the Year awards, quite simply have not played the other contenders...
Hi fi rush deserves every award it gets what a brilliant little game
@Sifi Given the amount of games that are released in a year just being in the running is an achievement on itself. Maybe you should try giving praise for the games winning the awards instead of bashing other games for not winning.
@Sifi ah typical that you would bring Sony into it when it has nothing to do with them once again.
You didn’t even congratulate Tango!
Love that they have a best remake category. This is how it should be.
@Fiendish-Beaver
Agreed. Spider-Man 2 was a good game, but the other GOTY contenders this year were head and shoulders above it, BG3 and Alan Wake 2 in particular. Just no comparison in my book.
@Fiendish-Beaver I played Spider-Man 2 and it's a good game. But definitely not great. And definitely not GOTY caliber. It's just not. For some reason, there were a lot of PS fans online complaining about the game not winning any awards. Also, the competition this year was real good.
I agree with you both, @Romans12 & @RIghteousNixon. Spiderman 2, whilst a good game, is not in the same class as BG3, Alan Wake 2 and even Lies of P. I honestly believe that the only reason you would think that Spiderman 2 should win GotY is if you haven't played any of those other 3. If you were to play only to have played Spiderman 2, then I can fully understand you believing that that particular game should win. However, once you play any of the others, it puts things into perspective. I have played all 4, and, for me, Baldur's Gate 3 is the clear winner by a large margin...
